Invictus has always been Harry's lifeline to universal praise and good press. With it being held in the UK, it could be his gateway back into being a working royal. We absolutely know that the royals - particularly William - will be vilified if they don't "support the veterans" - irrespective of what they do for the military all the other years when Invictus hasn't rolled into town. So it's no big sacrifice, and actually good PR for Charles to support it, and it's a shoe in win for Harry - and perhaps his last chance to get back into the royal fold before William becomes king and shuts off all avenues.

Invictus is supposed to be held in Birmingham a city in long term dispute with bin workers about massive pay cuts still ongoing- and they've had service cuts - they declared bankruptcy a few years ago.

The Labour govenrment - traditionally close with unions hasn't got anywhere and it as far as I can see is trying to stay clear of it now.

I'm not sure it the way back into royal life in UK but a potential pit fall waiting to happen - I think the RF will be walking very carefully round it TBH.

@My2cents1975

i didn’t know about the attacks on Gabriella . Words fail me .

It all tied in with William and Catherine too.

Unfortunately, Invictus became too much about Harry and Meghan. Too much about her fashion, too much about them as a couple. Meghan made a speech at Invictus which was all about them. They've co-opted it too much.

I agree - and any BRF involvement would inadvertently be clapping along and puffing up the MM show. She wouldn’t be able to help herself if they attended she would force herself front and centre into hogging the limelight and ‘owning’ the games even more than she has done to date. IMHO it’s all academic as the 7 year itch will have well and truly kicked in and they won’t be together - and KC3 touching 80 with long term cancer treatment will not be fit enough.

Godspeedbonnielass · 16/09/2025 11:12

@Puzzledandpissedoff , Invictus helps practically nobody, I'm sorry to say. There are so many UK veterans who could benefit from the £26m being pumped into Invictus - adaptable housing, retraining, mental health. It's a complete vanity project, and the fact that the veterans have to self fund while the patron gets his expenses paid seems to completely escape the attention of the press, who are really only interested in the antics of Meghan Markle. However, Harry himself has always been untouchable when it comes to Invictus, and even his harshest of harsh critics will caveat any negative commentary with praise for his military involvement.

This is all a big PR game now, facts and the consequences of his own poor actions matter less than who wins the spin. If the RF went up against Invictus directly, while it was being held, with their own initiative, I think that would be a disaster. What they do need to do is start now, today, showing how they are helping veterans. I think I read somewhere that The Royal foundation had been sending money to Help The Heroes (after previously sending money to Invictus, even after Harry left). This needs to be publicised better if it's correct, and if not, make it happen! And perhaps William should focus his housebuilding venture on veterans too, and do it visibly. They need to start being proactive rather than reactive to the Sussexes. Steal the march before 2027. Chess not tiddlywinks.

Mylovelygreendress · 16/09/2025 11:35

If i remember correctly Camilla’s 80th birthday is around the same time as the IG so maybe the RF will be otherwise occupied ? I did read that KC is planning a church service and huge party .

Indeed. The image of her leading the veterans march in flappy shorts and slides was risible.
I shouldn't think any royal would want to clap along with that self absorbed nonsense.

The whole business jet shuffle to/from Whistler IG, (including the preamble and then M"s solo return home halfway through the games themselves) left a hell of a lot of very obvious but still unanswered questions about who is picking up the tab for some of the pairs' travel arrangements.

That article is a joke, right? The journalist is taking the piss?

“Given her high-profile role in the diplomatic proceedings, I am now astonished that mum-of-three Kate, who let’s not forget is still recovering from <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/pc4cT/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/cancer/index.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">cancer, even managed to squeeze in those two textile factory visits, alongside the extensive preparations required for Trump’s visit.
I can only imagine how many hours are required to plan her outfits for the coming days – for she will certainly perfect the respectful, dazzling, dignified looks fit for a Presidential visit. How many trips did her hairdresser have to make to finesse a hair-do upon which to perch a priceless Windsor tiara?”

Mildorado · 16/09/2025 13:05

Yes, that's an interesting article! Very easy to have balloon fights with children and look heroic in Ukraine; harder to work on soft diplomacy with someone like Trump. That requires planning, taking advice, engaging and being reflective.

bluegreygreen · 16/09/2025 13:05

@Godspeedbonnielass

Given the increasing amount of disquiet from veterans about Harry's behaviour around the Invictus Games, and the increasing scrutiny there is into HArry;'s charities, is this even an agreement Harry would be able to fulfil?

It's quite possible that Invictus might decide they could do better than Harry. There must be a genuine high-profile veteran out there who would make a better patron.

JJ Chalmers for a start.

It does, though I'm not entirely sure the columnist is truly serious, given the focus on time spent with the hairdresser rather than in preparing for soft diplomacy.

He has left Invictus

SidekickSylvia · 16/09/2025 13:16

A clip of Harry talking to a Ukrainian couple has just popped up on Twitter/X, he's just been told that they're newlyweds. He asks them if it's because they're both wearing braces, while swinging his pointy finger at their mouths. Then he asks if, when they kiss 'You don't get stuck?' He links the fingers of both hands together to demonstrate. He's such an utter twat.

MaturingCheeseball · 16/09/2025 13:17

I wouldn’t be surprised if Charles has a hand in keeping Harry going at Invictus. Without it he has nothing. Well, he has his wife and dc but otherwise he seems to be at a very loose end. I suppose Charles might fear for him but also knows that the devil finds work for idle hands. The deal is no doubt that there is to be No Meghan at Invictus.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 16/09/2025 13:19

@Godspeedbonnielass Perhaps she'll capitulate if Charles promises to leave them one of the major, privately owned properties, like Highgrove

It won’t be Highgrove, that belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall now so “belongs” to William and even if Charles could have left it to Meghan and Harry I doubt he would want Highgrove which supports the Kings Trust closed down for Meghan’s personal commercial venture to line her own pocket. If I was Charles the most I would leave the grasping duo would be the property in Romania or the cute little cottage in Wales, if anything! 😂

There are supposedly around 1,700 Armed forces charities operating in the UK at the moment, yet the addictions, mental health and homelessness issues of veterans seems to rise unabated.
I wonder why that is.....

Bloody hell. No doubt of his parentage if he's coming out with the kind of outdated, cringe-making stuff Prince Philip was known for!
