Not listened to the first in Meghan's podcast series, a conversation with the founder of Bumble, Whitney Wolfe Heard, but the Mail has collated all the press reviews so far, with links. The Guardian, Telegraph and i-Paper are unanimous: the podcast is cloyingly dreadful.

The reviews for Meghan Markle's latest podcast are in! Two stars for Confessions of a Female Founder https://mol.im/a/14584193 via https://dailym.ai/android

I listen to a Lemonada podcast called Wiser than Me. Julia Louis Dreyfus interviews older women about what they have learned. Stunning interviews with Isabella Allende and Julie Andrews. Julia LD is funny, self deprecating and genuinely interested in and respectful of her guests.

ThePoshUns · 17/04/2025 07:27

Everything that MM is not.

JADS · 16/04/2025 22:31

I agree with this.

The important thing is that the interviewer is interested in the topic and the guest and has done some homework to bring the conversation along.

I quite enjoy You're Dead to Me which has Greg Jenner (a semi history expert), a proper academic and a comedian who is there for the laughs but can also be quite knowledgeable. Some episodes work better than others, but overall is a good light hearted listen. Confessions is a bit like brain syrup.

Not to start an argument with you but Greg Jenner is a historian, he has an MA in Medieval History, has worked as a historical consutlant (including on the Horrible Histories tv show) and has written a book on historical celebrities called ‘Dead Famous’ which I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend you read if you like ‘You’re Dead to Me’ 🥰

NewAgeNewMe · 17/04/2025 07:44

The ‘you’re dead to the me’ podcasts are excellent.

Oldest dc is almost 27 and I used to buy from party pieces, the catalogues sent out 6 weeks before were brilliant.

No, I realise that You're Dead to Me was a terrible example of what I was trying to say. Ignore me. Possibly Dan Snow is a better example but he is also a generalist historian type. I will admit I'm wrong.

I will look out for Dead Famous. Thank you for the recommendation.

I have tried to give Meghan the benefit of the doubt with regards to this podcast because I do admire that she has picked herself up and tried again. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work due to the lack of depth and charisma.

Uricon2 · 17/04/2025 08:51

Interviewing people is a real skill. There's a reason many of Michael Parkinson's are remembered as classics, because he had journalistic experience, genuine interest in his guests and could draw them out. At the other end of the scale was Chris Moyles, who never shut up about himself and barely let them get a word in edgeways, hugely irritating.

Good interviewers make it look easy, but it isn't really.

NewAgeNewMe · 17/04/2025 09:18

I never really rated Jonathan Ross until masked singer when he became the consummate professional in trying to make Macy Grey not appear like a diva after she stormed off.

RandyRedHumpback · 17/04/2025 09:21

She's not interviewing them really. She's using them as a mirroring device using their achievements or other experiences to say, me too; and then of course the obligatory praise of Meghan from the guest. The latest guest spends a lot of time fawning, including crediting Meghan as being a major donor - although I assume she really means Archewell, which is not the same thing at all.

Pardon me !
is Dan snow the rather dishy one who did a lot of shows about Ancient Greece?

Dan Snow also has great podcasts on bbc sounds ‘Dan snow history hit’. Just listened to one on the titanic.

That’s it! It’s not so much a podcast about business women or entrepreneurship but more like a Meghan love in.

I know some posters like to say that fans of the royals are nothing more than forelock tuggers, but to me it seems like the Sussex squad (and anyone who associates with Meghan, including her guests) are the forelock tuggers. They are so over the top in praising her, it just comes across as so inauthentic and fake. Meghan doesn’t help as she turns every anecdote the guest shares into something about her.

It’s like the old adage of ‘if someone goes to Tenerife, Meghan goes to Elevenerife’.

Dan Snow is amazing. He has such a soothing voice and is so passionate about his subject. He needs to do some audiobooks!

I think it was really unfortunate timing. Hadn't they just expanded into the US market when Covid hit and nobody had parties?

There were questions around the finances and staff lay-offs pre-Covid and Carole was still insisting all was well as late as 2019:

https://archive.ph/EbetA

Interestingly after decades of being a partnership it became a private limited company in 2019 thereby limiting the Middleton's personal liability for any debts.

As an aside there have always been questions over how it became a multi million pound juggernaut when similar sized companies offering similar products were reporting profits of around £130k:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/royal-wedding/8147929/Royal-Wedding-Middletons-money-how-was-it-made.html

Don't suppose we'll ever find out though.

Edited for dates

glitterturd · 17/04/2025 11:12

The Middletons are private people though with a private company so why would we know? It's like when people got excited about Doria's own people home venture in California. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

Sorry if this has already been posted before but I find this article with Jack Royston about episode 1 very interesting. It says what we have all been saying, that the podcast is “nothing to do with how to build a business”

some key quotes:

“If she wants to be genuinely interested, this podcast could’ve been way better. To some extent, it did have some interest and some intriguing parts. But it could’ve been way better if she’d gone more into interrogating the subject”

”The episode was called The Evolution of the Entrepreneur, and there is nothing in there about the evolution of the entrepreneur.”

He also say that because the guests are her friends she is never going to grill or pressure them about anything’s that uncomfortable, it’s a very romanticised view of being a founder and entrepreneur.

As ever, all style and no substance!

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 17/04/2025 11:27

She kind of reminds me of Marie Antoniette cosplaying as a shepherdess and milk maid in Petit Trianon, acting out the romantic side of being a girl boss without showing the actual hard work and grit that goes into it. Pretty much like the tradwife aesthetic that she’s going for in As Ever and With Love. Maybe she should rename herself “Meghantoinette” 🤣🫣

That's a very interesting change of direction for Jack Royston. His articles on H&M in Newsweek were always fawning harder than Bambi. Anyway, everything he says there is absolutely true. This podcast, so far, has little to nothing to do with founding a business. It's all about being a victim of one thing or another, which allows MM to once again to elevate herself to the position of the biggest victim of all, as well as being brave, stunning and the bestest friend a gal could ever have, with flower sprinkles on top!

Oh wow, so it is. And royal MM fan favourite ‘You’re Dead to Me’ in at 23 🤣

It’s not like there’s no appetite for founder podcasts as ‘The Diary of a CEO’ is trending at 1 (UK) and 8 (USA) respectively.
