How did he only get 4 years for rape?? And he could be out in 1?

I think Haakon is playing a very risky move with this.

I get that to him he and Mette-Marit have three children and to Harald and Sonja Marius was/is their granchild, but having him in such a prominent position seems very poorly advised. I’d be thinking the same if he was Haakon’s biological child as well.

I suppose on the other hand their thinking is that he is there because he’s a grandchild and therefore moving the coffin with the other grandchildren is a normal thing to do.

What was nice in that one is that Mette-Marit took Sonja’s hand as they followed in.

The "Shaman" is in hospital - he had a kidney transplant a few days before King Harald died

I'm pretty sure MM is still on sick leave from her lung transplant a couple of months ago. She made some private visits to the hospital but I'm unsure whether she is up to a long state occasion.

I wonder as well if Mette-Marit will be being advised to avoid the funeral because of the number of people there. Being around hundreds (maybe even a thousand plus?) people so soon after a lung transplant seems like a huge risk of picking up a cold or cough, which could become really serious.

I agree, however on MN we are for ever saying a stepchild should be treated as a child of the family, which he patently is being. However in this instance, maybe less conspicuous would have been better. I wonder what the Norwegians think?

I also think, and this is a personal opinion, that if it was a family moment, which with all the grandchildren involved it clearly was, then Martha-Louise should have been at the front of the coffin with Haakon, not behind Ingrid-Alexandra.

Her head must be absolutely pickled atm. Her Grandad has died. She has all these formal, official things to do, all with cameras pointed at her the whole time. Her mother is in hospital with complications from her lung transplant. Her grandmother is obviously absolutely devastated at the loss of her husband. Plus there is debate everywhere about Marius and his inclusion in moving the coffin.

That’s a lot for anyone, let alone being 22. And knowing that the next time you do all these formal things it’ll be because your dad has died.

Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra is known to be broadly supportive of Marius.

I think the whole family is tbh. Having him at the funeral is one thing but what a slap in the face of his victims to have him accompany the coffin into the palace the other day.

And yes, stepkids should be treated as part of the family but most stepkids are not convicted rapists!

JustAnotherWhinger · 02/09/2026 14:08

This sparked a bit of a discussion with my older kids (mid twenties) the other night. The general gist was that they all think most families of men appealing a rape sentence support them. I would agree.

So many families think their son/brother/cousin/partner is innocent, has been set up, has been harshly treated etc.

I think this is one of those things where for many families it’s absolutely outrageous that Marius is there and taking part, but if it was their Brian/Dave/Steve then ‘obviously’ he’d be there because the appeal would clear him and he shouldn’t miss out.

Which, imo, is one of the major reasons why violence against women is so socially acceptable. In many ways they are showing themselves to be no different to so many other families.

I think one of the difficulties of this case is that under Norwegian law his conviction was not final because of the appeal.

Therefore the sentence is automatically suspended until after the appeal outcome and the accused is treated as though he is unconvicted and on bail

Norwegian media reported that he was wearing an electronic tag.

Sad to think she hung on just long enough to bury her brother.
