I only got round to reading it on hols this week.

Most of I knew already, but I was shocked at Harry's description of William. I always thought they were close.

He is very nasty about William in the book.

What were your thoughts?

‘due to pressure from the publishers’

the ghost writer said he had to insist that he tone it down and talked him out of even more salacious detail, he implied the type of content was very much driven by Harry 🤷‍♀️

I suspect this is strategically saved for Vol II.

With the huge commercial success of Spare publishers must be falling over themselves for a sequel.

Also would imagine MM biog will also earn $$$$$$$$.

They have all this cash (but not credibility IMHO) to come.

The work of a jealous, bitter paranoid man who has taken too many drugs and been spoilt rotten all his life.

Or.

A mentally distressed man who has been brought up in the most bizarre situation, can't have normal relationships, and lost his mother at a young age without getting the chance to say goodbye or see her body. He spent his formative years being followed relentlessly by press, who ultimately killed his mother, and still they didn't give him a break. The press were then really odd in their reporting of his wife, with racist undertones and a complete different in the way they report Kate.

Of course he's done things he shouldn't have. Haven't we all? We're all a product of our upbringing and our reaction to it.

I think people underestimate how much being a member of The Firm can take its toll. I don't care how much money they have, I wouldn't swap places with any of them, for anything.

Chomping · 08/03/2024 15:17

I agree with his attacks on the media.

Struggle with why he went for the jugular with his family when it appears they had a good enough relationship (lots of photos / joint initiatives prove this) when his grandmother was so frail and widowed

Poor MM in that case.

I agree with this, but the lines he has crossed are beyond what anyone would ever do if they had any affection at all for their family. He took a flame thrower to them all . If he were my family member i would never ever talk to him again. He’s done so much damage there will never be a way back.

I understood part of it was to strategically stop the publisher getting sued when ‘his truth’ varied dramatically from that of others.

The press didn’t kill his mother. A drunk driver speeding and her not wearing a seatbelt did that.

The press speeding and chasing her on on motorbikes into a tunnel, probably didn't help matters.

I do agree with Harry leaving the UK, in that I think that no royal family or country owns a human being.

We all have the right to move abroad. And he should have the same right aswell.

What did he say about Camilla in the book? Did it come out after the Q died - can’t imagine she’d have been pleased about it.

He said a couple of things about camilla.

The main ones I remember was that

"Camilla worked to redeem her image, as she was seen as the villain"

And he said a couple of times in the book, that he and William thought that camilla rank the UK press to tell them things.

For example, the argument between meghan and kate about bridesmaid dresses. Only a couple of people knew about it, and Harry said in the book that he figured out that it must have been camilla who told the press (allegedly)

Thanks. Didn’t know that about Camilla and the press. Don’t know much about how these things - media, PR etc - work tbh.

It all seems a shame. He had seemingly accepted his father’s remarriage and talked of Kate as a sister. I’m anti royal but it’s sad to see a family at odds, whatever the reason. Especially siblings.

Same upbringing and tragic experience as PW (who arguably had harder burdens to carry regarding expectations as the heir and being the confidant to his unhappy mother as a child).

Also their wives faced both faced significant press intrusion - KM physically harassed as a teenager with naked photos of her published must have been tough for her. MM was a mature woman in her late 30s was already skilled in managing the press when the tabloid and SM onslaught started (which she didn’t deserve and which shouldn’t have happened).

Do we think Archewell Productions will turn the book into a film or a mini-series?

This must be something they are discussing to add to the busy ‘slate’ of exciting opportunities they are developing surely?

Would be a money spinner.

jötunnn · 09/03/2024 12:36

@Kjones27 It was Harry that wrote the tawdry book

why are you shoe horning in Meghan and then bashing Meghan ?

’Harry seems like a similar man. He is a weak man who will let his wife dictate his entire life. He won't stand up to her’

You also implied Meghan is Wallis Simpson

it’s almost like you’re trying to encourage a pile on Meghan so you can then make outlandish claims about her being victimised

but it’s you that keeps goading about her - why?

JudgeJ · 09/03/2024 13:22

I got the feelfing Meghan was thrown in at the deep end and ill prepared by him.

Yet when William supposedly suggested that he, Harry, take it slowly Harry went crazy, he would not listen to anyone who said anything he didn't want to hear. If she was ill-prepared then it's all Harry's fault.

JudgeJ · 09/03/2024 13:24

You also implied Meghan is Wallis Simpson

She went out of her way to make that comparison herself on the Winfrey interview.

JudgeJ · 09/03/2024 13:32

Can you imagine being his commanding officer reporting back that he was coming back home minus limbs or in a body bag, because I can't. Ditto Andrew.

Back in the day we knew people who had been in the Falklands and they all said the same thing, In the air Andrew was second to none doing his job, it was only after he was back on terra firma that his obnoxious side took over.

I always am amused by how much odium there is for certain newspapers and their online presence yet their content is always quoted? Who's reading it if it's so bad?
