I only got round to reading it on hols this week.

Most of I knew already, but I was shocked at Harry's description of William. I always thought they were close.

He is very nasty about William in the book.

What were your thoughts?

your freedom to right bs about him’

whaaa? How would we put to right all the bs about him?

I think that should have been 'write bs.'

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 07/03/2024 16:12

Ultimately he fought on the front line for your freedom to right bs about him

I'm sorry, what?? anyone would think he fought WW2 singlehanded.

That explains why he keep quiet in regard to Andrew, once you’ve laid down your life and all that. I’ve got my gulf war medal, I’m that old so technically I too fought on the front line for Harry freedom to write BS

EchoChamber · 07/03/2024 16:57

Nah. He keeps quiet about Andrew because he’s pals with Eugenie. She is about the only family member who still speaks to him.

Prince Harry's Spare, the UK's number 1 best-selling book of 2023, has now been nominated for two British Book Awards:

"Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller and chair of The British Book Awards judges, said in a press release: "Last year saw the book business roll up its sleeves, stare down the cost-of-living crisis and post-Covid troubles, and unleash a series of memorable and remarkable new titles. Book-ended by two record-breakers -Prince Harry's Spare and the fifth book in Alice Oseman's Heartstopper series -this year's titles did what the industry does best: start conversations, connect communities and push boundaries.

"Our collective ability to support the creative endeavours of writers and illustrators, and to judge and deliver what readers want, continues to be a wonder to behold. It is an honour to celebrate these success stories."
Harry's memoir gave readers an inside look at what went on behind palace walls. It detailed his childhood in the public eye as well as his experience with drugs in his older years.

Harry's controversial memoir was the best selling book in the United Kingdom for last year. According to The Bookseller, Harry's memoir sold more than 700,000 copies. This was about 180,000 more than the second best selling book, The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman."

Enjoy! 😎

It must be a bit bittersweet. More sales equal more money which seems sorely needed but given they seem to be dropping hints about returning it maybe it’s not a good thing.

Also more work for the PR folks if they can actually find someone in UK to take them on.

Thoughts?

SaffronSpice · 08/03/2024 12:23

That is a bit like nominating ‘National Enquirer’ for newspaper of the year. People bought it for the gossip not because it was a good book.

jötunnn · 08/03/2024 12:27

Considering the unwashed masses are regularly derided for their plebeian taste for popular tabloid gossip on this board, seems strange a grubby gossipy book’s popularity is now being used to convey something else entirely 😆

TallerSally · 08/03/2024 12:59

@AliceOlive You sure about this? I heard they were thinking about moving to planet Mars... in many ways a safer place for them than the UK...

Reddog1 · 08/03/2024 13:12

Are they considering returning because a US judge - Nichols - is reviewing his immigration file? No choice in the end, maybe.

That’s a very frequent double standard with certain posters.

I suppose hypocrisy is resorted to in desperation

Yes it was curiosity value alone.

Roussette · 08/03/2024 13:18

Can anyone post a verified source for them wanting to move back ...apart from clickbait nonsense articles?

Thought not...

sorry to disappoint (some people), but that will go exactly... nowhere!

Am I sure hints are being dropped? Yes. Does that mean it will happen or the hints are sincere? No.

They could be feeling things out though and I do believe they are trying to hire PR in UK. Don’t necessarily think it’s to move back, or if it was, not full-time. It could be for any number of reasons.

Interesting how this conjecture bothers some people. It’s not really an invasive thought, nor is it meant to humiliate anyone. There would be nothing wrong, in my opinion, if they decided to figure out how to get back to spending time there. It was Harry’s home all of his life!

StickyWickets · 08/03/2024 13:32

It's nonsense imo. I can't imagine they have any desire to move back to UK at least not for the foreseeable.

Is the penny starting to drop that they need to rehabilitate their public image in the UK? Perhaps? Maybe they have made some enquires on who could help them on this, but I doubt very much it's got anything to do with wanting to live in the UK, that's just clickbait

Roussette · 08/03/2024 13:39

Totally agree @StickyWickets

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 08/03/2024 13:51

Imagine if you were in his position (privileged, short of cash, feel bitter, etc) and you get offered a book deal on a plate so you can 'tell your story, get the truth out there' etc, and raise your profile and earn some cash into the bargain The problem is that they (the publishers) will want blood - a Daily Mail trash-fest that can't be bland and has to have lots of details that are both salacious and new to readers, with the added benefit of being cathartic therapy for him. I haven't read it but he's a soldier, not a writer, so I imagine it might have turned out to be a bit more full-on than he had initially imagined, due to pressure from the publishers. But I am fully prepared to accept that he is a petulant man-child and shouldn't have said a lot of it. Maybe without the Californian 'let it out' atmosphere he wouldn't have - would've turned down the chance to rant in a book and would've kept it all in, in the British way!

Do you think the reports of Harry wanting to help out now are real or far-fetched?

jötunnn · 08/03/2024 14:02

‘due to pressure from the publishers’

the ghost writer said he had to insist that he tone it down and talked him out of even more salacious detail, he implied the type of content was very much driven by Harry 🤷‍♀️

No idea, but even if he had (and I think that would be an absolutely terrible idea btw), I can't imagine he'd be thinking that would go hand in hand with moving permanently back to the UK.

I think the dream is the royal lifestyle in California, not under the flightpath of Heathrow in the drizzle!

pipsfromthefuture · 08/03/2024 14:40

WME has an office in London, so it doesn't even make sense that they'd be hunting for a new PR agency, or want to move back to the UK.

I think as usual, this is the same cyclical UK tabloid story that has been around every other month since January 2020.

To ‘help out’ - far fetched
To get involved in order to get some more royal ‘intel’ and use the royals to build up their celebrity credit and marketability in the US as contracts wind up - quite possible

Chomping · 08/03/2024 14:49

short of cash

Thats subjective!

Depends on your expectations, aspirations and sense of entitlement if you have ponced off the public purse all your life.
