And so it begins 😁 I'm sure 50k is only small change to him though..

Prince Harry ordered to pay Mail on Sunday nearly £50,000 after losing attempt to strike out part of paper's defence in libel case

The Duke of Sussex, who is suing Associated Newspapers over an article written about his fight with the Home Office concerning his security arrangements, had tried to have the company's "honest opinion" defence thrown out.

I'm surprised their fees were as low as that, even for a short hearing.

BoPeepsSheep · 11/12/2023 17:51

Excellent

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 17:56

H&Ms camp won't be happy 😂
Would love to be a fly on the wall at the Windsor household tonight & on the Middleton's in Bucklebury too😁

Totally standard if you bring and lose an application.

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 17:59

@Delphigirl but he'll be pissed off right?

FloofCloud · 11/12/2023 18:06

He needs to grow up, stop trying to blame others or gaslight people. I'm glad he's been hit in the pocket ... no doubt he'll try to get someone else to pay that too as it's not his fault

Chouxpastryishard · 11/12/2023 18:17

The next legal case will be against Daddy for not paying up. Because of course it was all his fault.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 11/12/2023 18:21

What pisses me off is he thinks he's being treated less favourably than other British Citizens with regards to being kept safe and secure in the UK. Has he SEEN the crime rates or the number of stabbings, shootings etc in this country? He's living in cloud cuckoo land.
Also it's difficult for him to argue that they damaged his reputation, he's done a bang up job of that all by himself.

LakeTiticaca · 11/12/2023 18:23

The sooner their titles are taken away the better
You reap what you sow Harry 😉

No. He will have been told when he applied that it was likely if he won the application the mail would pay his costs, and if he lost he would pay the mail’s costs. It’s a well known risk of litigating.
£50k is irrelevant in the scale of the costs of the whole action.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 11/12/2023 18:26

When the police won't even come out to car thefts, rapes or assaults for quite a lot of people, it's hard to see Prince Harry Antoinette demanding better cake for no reason whatsoever, he's trashing his reputation right left and centre.

At the end of the day he & his wife chose to leave the royal family. Why should the taxpayer pay their security when they no longer work for or represent the nation? He's jo bloggs now, one of us.
Has he security in the states & who pays?

I think he deludes himself to be honest, either that or his over inflated ego and sense of entitlement, along with him being a bit dim (putting it very nicely!) he just doesn't understand that as a grown man he needs to behave as such ... I suspect he can't as he's just solipsistic and entitled

ANightingale · 11/12/2023 18:54

£50k is like 50p to Harry.

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 18:56

So does he pay for his own security out of the UK but the second he arrives back in the UK he expects the taxpayer to foot the bill?

That’s right.

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 19:33

@Chouxpastryishard well he can jog on. He doesn't represent the UK & Commonwealth anymore so he can pay for it himself. If he doesn't like that then he can steer clear of the uk.

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 19:34

So what happens at the moment when he comes to the UK? Is he paying his own security while he is here at present?

Yes he is paying for his security team, but they can't carry guns here. RAVEC will also provide additional security IF ITS DEEMED NECESSARY, and they will be armed if the threat is high. That's the part Harry can't get his head around. He thinks he should have them when he comes over to play polo with his friends. It also means the same for his wife and children. So an enormous bill for us to pay someone doing FA for us except call us racist.

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 20:45

Unbelievable entitlement. And has it been deemed necessary for them to have state security yet?
Part of me thinks Harry knew exactly what he was doing when he mentioned how many Taliban he killed 🤔

Since shortly after he left the RF he has been responsible for paying his own security costs abroad. He had security for a short time but I think the UK balked at the cost of providing around the clock security teams that (at the time) were having to be flown backwards and forwards to Canada and Canada were unwilling to pay. I also read somewhere that he demanded three separate security teams for himself, Meghan and Archie when they left the UK as they were not always together in the same country.

The Queen did not provide full time security for her own children - Anne, Andrew and Edward only got security when on official engagements. So he is being treated the same as them.

When it comes to the UK - if he gives notice then they assess his need for security for official events but not when he comes for private, money making events. If he gives notice he can also use rooms in a secure royal residence. I think he stayed overnight at Buckingham Palace before the Coronation.

He is fighting another court case against the UK government to force the UK to pay for 24/7 security for him and his family in the US.

Maireas · 11/12/2023 21:00

@BiscuitsandPuffin - Prince Harry Antoinette 😂

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 21:08

@Lunde am I reading this correctly he wants the UK to fund his security in the U.S?!!

OP posts:
wildernesssw · 11/12/2023 21:16

At the moment I think he says he (not sure about his family) should have automatic 24/7 royal protection whenever he is in the UK. RAVEC have said he will have the level of protection required by the assessed risk.
