And so it begins 😁 I'm sure 50k is only small change to him though..

Prince Harry ordered to pay Mail on Sunday nearly £50,000 after losing attempt to strike out part of paper's defence in libel case

The Duke of Sussex, who is suing Associated Newspapers over an article written about his fight with the Home Office concerning his security arrangements, had tried to have the company's "honest opinion" defence thrown out.

@Lunde am I reading this correctly he wants the UK to fund his security in the U.S?!!

My own thoughts are that Harry wants his IPP status reinstated. That means anyone designated a IPP will have full security provided in any country they visit, like the king does or the prime minister. It's reciprocal so all countries sign up and pay costs. So in theory the USA would pay but I don't know if it works if the person is domiciled there??

I also wonder if the Taliban remarks were deliberate to up his security needs

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 21:29

@rosyglowcondition how does he get his IPP status reinstated? Is they up to the govt or King Charles?
I definitely think he dropped that bombshell in about to Taliban to make himself appear a target..

I'm not sure who or how it's provided. I think is something like international protected persons or something. Maybe governments give it? Harry used to have it when he was HRH. The Canadian government provided security when they first left the Uk, but it stopped when they went to america

BethDuttonsTwin · 11/12/2023 21:40

I read on X so obvs can’t be sure of accuracy, that this approximately £50k he’s been ordered to pay, is on account only while a detailed assessment of full costs is done, and that it could be considerably more. Any one with any expertise have any insight to this claim?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 11/12/2023 21:43

I did a silent “yes” at the screen!

He’s a complete idiot.

I hate to say this but Meghan is becoming more and more credible and sane compared to Harry who just looks thick as pigshit. Still what can you expect with the inbreeding of the RF?!

ThePoshUns · 11/12/2023 21:44

Oh poor Harry, Waaahh!

butterminttea · 11/12/2023 21:45

Honestly my respect for Meghan increases each day just for putting up with him

H&Ms camp won't be happy 😂
Would love to be a fly on the wall at the Windsor household tonight & on the Middleton's in Bucklebury too😁

What, sitting in their party pieces creditors meeting? 😂

Southpoint · 11/12/2023 21:49

Harry is an idiot but that does not make Meghan credible. Both are an embarrassment so do not try to separate them because they are both up to their necks in it together.

The money he needs to pay to the DM is nothing but what has he ever done to earn money anyway. He just threw his family under the bus to get millions.

rosyglowcondition · 11/12/2023 21:51

50K is only a tiny amount of the full costs. A normal person taking a case to court is around £100K, so Harry's cost with top notch legal people must be astronomical! If he loses he will pay the papers costs but if it goes to trial I guess a jury will be deciding who's believable?

LakeTiticaca · 11/12/2023 21:51

The Canadian government declined to pay their security bill, as did the US government. He pays for his security in the States.
He was informed that if he visits the UK on Royal Duty he will be entitled to Scotland Yard protection, however, he was informed that the UK taxpayer will NOT provide security while he swans around London with his Nexflix crew in tow, and quite rightly so!!

ANightingale · 11/12/2023 18:54

£50k is like 50p to Harry.

less than 1p even. He earned at least £20m from Spare, if he fixed that at 3.8%, he's earning 2k per day in interest. He won't miss it.😎

Pennyapple · 11/12/2023 21:54

@LakeTiticaca what royal duties would be needed now, the coronation is over & please God there will be no more royal funerals for the foreseeable. He doesn't need to be on on Royal duty for anything else as he's not a working royal..

No. He will have been told when he applied that it was likely if he won the application the mail would pay his costs, and if he lost he would pay the mail’s costs. It’s a well known risk of litigating.
£50k is irrelevant in the scale of the costs of the whole action.

ANL lost their own strike out for the hacking case, so would also have had to pay costs to the claimants, including Harry for that.

LakeTiticaca · 11/12/2023 22:02

@Pennyapple you're right, what I meant to say was if he is in the company of the RF, for instance, th Queens funeral, he would be afforded the same level of protection as the rest of them, but if he's in the UK as a private citizen, he wouldn't be, unless of course they have Intel on a credible threat to his life.
He initially wanted Royal protection officers to protect he and his family round the clock in the States , which would cost a fortune, he was politely told sling his hook 😉

This is incorrect. The Canadian government provided security for Harry and Meghan from November 2019 until feb 2020. A police chief confirmed they had security and sounded pissed they said there was none.

rosyglowcondition · 11/12/2023 22:18

When he's in certain situations even America provides security. The New York catastrophic car chase had police escorts at certain times. So I guess it depends on circumstances. I mentioned the Canadian government because Harry said they had no security there when it was actually provided for several months.

Livelovebehappy · 11/12/2023 22:18

Oh dear. Meg will be fuming. She’ll be demanding he gets more intel on the RF so they can bat out another book to make up the money lost.

Sorry don't know a lot about royals . Didn't his Netflix crew have to have a severe talking too at the late queens jubilee ?

Mumsnut · 11/12/2023 17:51

I'm surprised their fees were as low as that, even for a short hearing.

They’re not, it’s an interim payment while the final costs are determined.

They applied to strike out on 2 counts, limitation and use of evidence supplied to the Leveson Inquiry. They lost on the first count and won on the second. There is no costs order in the published judgment.

Theunamedcat · 11/12/2023 22:50

Has he ever had IPP status? I thought that was reserved for the king and prime minister

Really?! Mine plummets 😂 But then I've never understood why she'd put up with him - by their own admission he's had her buy him a sofa (as he lives like a student when he's a middle-aged multi-millionaire) even though she could only apparently afford a second-hand one on credit; he's not warned her about important etiquette when meeting his family and only informed her she'd have to know how to curtsey when she's stuck in a car enroute to meet them - then laughed at her when she looks dismayed; he nicks her drugs when she's giving birth cos he's bored waiting for their child to be born; he's refused to ignore his grandma and get her help for her mental health despite having his own therapists and multiple contacts in the mental health world he could've called ... etc etc! I mean seriously Meg, you need to up your standards!!

WhyMeWhyNowWhyNot · 11/12/2023 23:21

All the royals should pay their own security bills - they can bloody well afford it 🙄

StickyWickets · 11/12/2023 23:22

Yes I wonder what could have possibly attracted her to him in the first place?...
