And so it begins 😁 I'm sure 50k is only small change to him though..

Prince Harry ordered to pay Mail on Sunday nearly £50,000 after losing attempt to strike out part of paper's defence in libel case

The Duke of Sussex, who is suing Associated Newspapers over an article written about his fight with the Home Office concerning his security arrangements, had tried to have the company's "honest opinion" defence thrown out.

He's not a nobody. And the circumstances are quite exceptional. And there is a cost actually.

The poster don’t say he was “a nobody” did they? They said nobody can pay for it. Which means no one. Not even the King. Or the Prime Minister. And they are definitely more “somebody” than Harry

So its a hit piece?

A hit piece from the judge? I doubt it.

Myfabby · 14/12/2023 13:13

Lockupyourbiscuits · 14/12/2023 13:07

I’m sure the judge looked at the evidence before coming to his decision

So hardly a hit piece

The thread is discussing the result of the court case

results? The case isn't over. This is one application that was refused. The Fail have also had applications refused. Not sure what is being discussed, if its not based in accuracy

JemimaTiggywinkles · 14/12/2023 13:15

I didn't say Harry was a nobody.

There are precisely zero circumstances where it would be acceptable for private citizens to be allowed to hire the security services or police.

There is a financial cost to the state and a personal freedom / privacy cost to the protectee. But there is no financial cost to the person being protected by the security services and police. Unless you have a link to demonstrate otherwise?

RAVEC tends to make the right decisions is that no-one high profile has been killed/kidnapped in the Uk for a long time

It is also reasonable to believe that RAVEC will err on the side of caution for security issues as it is in no one's interests for PH (or anyone else in a high profile role) to be harmed. If RAVEC say he doesn't NEED additional security than why doesn't PH believe it?

The mantra that security is not spoken about has stood the test so its naive and unwise to have made it such a public debate. I fear PH is doing all this to stay relevant but sadly it's having the opposite impact.

Regarding Clarksons comments. There was quite rightly outrage to his comments, wasn't it the largest ever number of complaints which reflects that the uk public didn't agree with comments. I don't think that should be overlooked.

He's doing this to say relevant? Sigh. His mother was killed/died. His black wife has recieved threats. Members of the Metropolitan police ( who ironically main duties are to protect)have openly been vile towards this woman and you think he's just doing this for a few more headlines ?

There were people that agreed with Clarkson though - no?
Wasn't there a photo of an ape leaving hospital printed when Archie was born?

But no, let's gaslight Harry. He and MM just crave attention

Honestly I despair of some of the thinking on here.

The result of the application for Summary Judgment - which Harry lost on the balance of evidence provided

So not a hit piece !

His mother died partly because she refused Met security though. And yes there have been threats. And yes clarkson is an arse. But that doesn’t mean there is a current credible threat. And as has been said on the other RAVEC thread loads of times,he will get met security if it is deemed necessary when he is here, if he gives notice and if he stays with the other Royals.

You said the thread ( talking about the judges ruling ) was a hit piece ?

That is what I understood you to have meant

Perhaps you could just explain what you were referring to if I’m mistaken

Better to just move on though

I am not a great supporter of H and M but I am surprised at most of the posts on here.

Have any of you read the reasons Harry gives for asking for security? He says that it is because his family is particularly vulnerable. Even a neutral observer would have to agree this is true. Most of these threads are full of hatred towards them and the DM under article comments are truly vile. I have never seen that level of hatred directed at any other public figure. It’s really disingenuous to ask why H and M can’t just have the same level of security as Edward and Sophie. I have rarely seen anything negative written about E and S. They are almost entirely uncontroversial.

They brought that on themselves.

Harry isn’t a “working Royal” like the Edinburghs. And he wants 24/7 security that they don’t get

Honestly I despair of some of the thinking on here.

I too despair of some of the thinking on here, but for very different reasons!!

Diana died in an accident caused by a drunk driver, when she wasn't wearing a seatbelt and had turned down Royal protection.

His mixed race wife was welcomed with open arms and everyone thought she would be a breath of fresh air, until she started her machinations, and most right-thinking people were disgusted by the couple's treatment of the Royal Family, especially the Queen and Prince Philip, in their last days.

Anyone that agrees with Clarkson is a wanker and should not be given airtime.

They do just crave attention. They could perfectly easily have slipped off to live their private life, and just look at them!! They just keep digging...

Err, you don't get to tell me what to do especially as you've spectacularly misquoted me. I said it was a hit piece where?

I believe it was @Tigger1895 who posted 'so its a hit piece'?

I'm not sure what the 'it' refers to, however.

BasiliskStare · 14/12/2023 18:08

Well my tuppence worth , if M&H and children came to stay with C&C am sure they would get the benefit of Royal protection. Having stepped away from Royal duties , I don't think they should get protection in their own right. As others have said working members of the RF ( direct heir aside ) only get this I believe when on duty.

I think Harry is coming over a bit entitled here and should think again. I do think he is not as sharp as he thinks ( and has certificates to prove it )

But one opinion ( others are available )

Exactly - they have been offered accommodations for their rare visits to the UK in a suite of rooms in Buckingham Palace where they would be covered by the security there. I think that was where Harry stayed when he made his brief visit for the Coronation. If he were ever to stay with family then he would also be covered.

If he does ever carry out any Royal engagements then security is provided for these in the same way as for Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie. Anne has lived with this arrangement without complaint for years despite having once been the victim of a kidnapping attempt in which her Royal Protection officer, driver and a journalist who attempted to assist her were all shot.
