Just a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the Princess of Wales' fab outfits and some of the many great causes she supports.

I absolutely love this green suit, which she wore on Tuesday in Leeds

Princess Kate's affordable chunky gold necklace is the ultimate cool-girl accessory

You’re welcome.

They all have different rules so they’ll have very carefully made sure she had it right - it must be a brief moment of doubt though when everyone else’s goes the other way!

She must have wished she had a left shoulder sash so that the family order didn’t have to just go through the dress. She’ll be hoping to have a right shouldered sash for next year when she’ll very likely have the weight of two family orders!

She pulls it off nicely though and still looks great but yes I agree, she probably wanted a right shoulder one instead so she isn’t singled out/stood out so differently from the King, Queen Consort and William

It’s just because it’s a different order from the others so that’ll be the rule for that particular order.

The King, Queen and Prince of Wales are all wearing the insignia of the Order of the Garter

Princess of Wales is wearing the Royal Victorian Order (also wore it at the Coronation with its full robe, as did the then Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Gloucester).

The Garter is senior to the RVO, and it's likely the PoWess will get "promoted" one day (the then Duchess of Cornwall got it in Jan 2022)

The yellow bow with a cameo portrait of the late queen, worn by both the Queen and the Princess of Wales is the Royal Order of Queen Elizabeth II (given for devoted service)

King Charles hasn't bestowed any of his Royal Orders yet - so we don't know what colour the bow will be for his - I'm guessing green (to match his environmentalism) runner up guess purple (to match his coronation pyjamas tunic)

I was purely thinking for the order to be clipped too. Apparently they’re easier to deal with on the sash than directly on the dress.

Interesting to compare the sashes in the new photo with those in the old photo with Queen Elizabeth. They seem to have shuffled along in the sash hierarchy with Kate gaining a sash which is the same as the one Camilla had in the old photo.

I think they’re coming very soon as Camilla and Catherine’s orders from QEII have both had the ribbon shortened, suggesting to me they’ll soon have the other one to go alongside.

I’m thinking green and possibly/probably reusing the ribbons from the George V green ones where possible since there are no longer any living recipients of that one. Although a bold colour would make a nice change, but doubt they’ll go with that. Another pale colour will ‘go’ better with the lemon one.

WinnieTheW0rm · 05/12/2023 23:49

Looks like both RVO and Garter have waist badges for the ladies, so the dresses are going to get stabbed somewhere, whichever way the sash goes (and of course the sash is probably anchored by something other than the family Royal Order)

Ineedwinenow · 05/12/2023 23:50

@WinnieTheW0rm @YetMoreNewBeginnings thank you to you both for your detailed replies, that’s genuinely really interesting , I know about the Order of the Garter etc.. but didn’t know too much about it and the specifics, so thank to you both once again for explaining it for me Smile ( off to google to find out more information )

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/12/2023 23:52

They must need good undergarments to secure all the buttons and badges too.

Especially on the dresses with thin material or lots of beadwork.

WinnieTheW0rm · 05/12/2023 23:52

If it's green and yellow, I can't help but think of the song!

The Princess of Wales looks radiant. So nice to see.

Can't really blame William for dispensing with those knickerbockers 😁

I love her in the trouser suit - and choosing slightly darker blue suede shoes is perfect imo. I think the all one colour, but adding different tones of that colour and textures, can look fab.

FluffyCatBonzo · 06/12/2023 11:27

I actually love her hair up behind the crown in a 60s /70s vibe.

Samcro · 06/12/2023 12:45

im not a fan of the dress.

skullbabe · 06/12/2023 13:12

I personally love the colour and think it’s difficult to pull off but she done so well. Love the dress - it was stunning at the wedding and am so pleased to see it get a second outing.

Viviennemary · 06/12/2023 16:49

I did like the dressa Kate wore last night. But I think prefer the white dresses with the sash worn at those formal dos. That Tiara with the pearls is stunning. I think it was Diana's favourite.

EmpressSisi · 08/12/2023 07:34

Catherine inviting us to join her this Christmas Eve for her special carol service at Westminster Abbey.

I love love love the sparkly jacket but think the colour makes her look a bit washed out and tired. She still looks fab though.

Ah, she looks lovely! I'm looking forward to the carol service 🙂

It’s also the lighting that’s having that effect - not too keen on the jacket myself.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 08/12/2023 07:38

She appears to wearing much lighter eye make-up than usual. Love the jacket.

FluffyCatBonzo · 08/12/2023 08:40

I'm not keen on the jacket - something about the pockets but loving the informal natural look of hair and make up for what is after all a family event.

LadyEloise1 · 08/12/2023 08:58

She looks different- I can't put my finger on why ?
The photo looks very air brushed.
I agree with @EmpressSisi that she looks a bit washed out in the cream but that could be the airbrushing.

pinkmont · 08/12/2023 09:02

I agree, the photo looks so odd. The photo is either heavily filtered or they got the lighting set up very wrong.

TheKnittedCharacter · 08/12/2023 09:14

I think Kate’s make up is vastly improved nowadays. She must look back on her thick, black eyeliner of old and cringe.

Lifestooshort71 · 08/12/2023 14:42

It looks like the cuddly bed jacket my gran used to wear.
