I guess Deadline has it in for the Sussexes too.
Just like the British press, the Cut, then WSJ, Bloomberg News, and Rolling Stone magazine. It's all a vast conspiracy against the Sussexes.

Well , ideally a documentary shows both sides of a story, so documentary is possibly not the right descriptor. Maybe Reality tv, like Real Housewives, Love Island st al.

Roussette · 12/07/2023 20:00

I think the first paragraph of the linked article sums up it up for this thread.

"Netflix’s megahit documentary series on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to earn any Emmy nominations this morning, a snub that presumably will delight critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex"

ILikeDinosaurs · 12/07/2023 20:13

@Roussette Yep.

The word "snub" is such a predictable word. 🙄

As a consolation, Harry & Meghan did earn an honor on Tuesday when it was nominated for the Hollywood Critics Association Awards in the category of Best Streaming Nonfiction Series.

If they don't win this it will be all over the headlines that it was a "snub" too, rather than they just didn't win.

The actual winners will be the ones snubbed in favour of cheap clicksGrin

costacoughee · 12/07/2023 20:18

Never heard of the critics choice award. Very left field. The Emmys are a different kettle of fish

I'd laugh my socks off if South Parks privacy tour show was nominated 😂

How else to describe this but a snub?

The six-part series Harry & Meghan directed by Liz Garbus was under consideration for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

Should they have used the word ‘rejected’ instead?

Plus, earning a nomination from the Hollywood critics association award (never even heard of them before), versus the well-known and prestigious Emmys is hardly a consolation prize.

I wonder if it stings Meghan that her dad is an emmy award winner and she can't even get an emmy nomination.

I think it would be hard to justify a 'Nonfiction' classification...

Iwantcakeeveryday · 12/07/2023 22:16

This is like the Dior story all over again. Nothing has happened so stories are created from nothing, about nothing. They're 'snubbing' an awful lot of other shows too! People are seriously reaching here, because they just can't stop talking about them.

This type of story also steps over the very real people whose work people are saying was snubbed like Liz Gerbus the director and Gil Talmi the score composer, in addition to the thousands of people in the industry who were under consideration, in the interest of schadenfreude.

No no, H&M have been 'snubbed'.

But other contenders for an Emmy were simply 'not chosen'. 😂

SidekickSylvia · 12/07/2023 22:53

I think 'non fiction' was the problem. It came across as more of a spoof, like The Office.

However you look at it, the press have really turned against them now.

It’s the evil media once again reporting negative news about the Sussexes.

Or deadline could just be reporting the news, since it came out in a previous variety article that the documentary was up for a potential emmy nomination with a strong chance of winning. But no, lets go with the narrative that it must be the evil media conspiring (in tandem with the royals) against the sussexes once again.

I don't understand why it's a snub. Don't Emmys have to be available to be seen by a certain percentage of the viewing public? Does Netflix have that reach? Anyway, these are important awards in the US so the documentary would be up against a lot of other programes. I don't see it as a snub at all.

It is a snub because of this:

The six-part series Harry & Meghan directed by Liz Garbus was under consideration for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

Netflix tried to put it up for nomination at the Emmys but it was ignored/rejected, therefore it was a ‘snub’. Plus the article describes that it was the second most watched documentary in Netflix, and variety came out with an article stating that it was potentially up for an emmy with a strong chance of winning. It was expected to be nominated for an emmy at the very least.

@MamoruHisaishi you're practically slavering with glee. Why do you keep posting that same link?

What a weird thing to post. She is living in your head rent free.

Why do you care so much what I post? I can't imagine getting so bothered over someone’s posts about a couple who don't even know you exist, to the point you'd seemingly get upset over it. I guess I'm living rent free in your head.

As the link is repeated, I think the first paragraph of the article is worth repeating also. Fair's fair.

"Netflix’s megahit documentary series on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to earn any Emmy nominations this morning, a snub that presumably will delight critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex"

And? It doesn't bother me. A snub is a snub, so not sure what your point is 🤷

You are delighting in the word 'snub'. Strange.

They competition will have been tough, are all the others who didn't get through 'snubbed' too?

Well done on finding the article anyway. And starting a thread on it.

Definitely a slow news day or should that be month, as far as H&M are concerned....

marcopront · 13/07/2023 06:32

@MamoruHisaishi

Without posting the link again please explain to me like I'm stupid why it is a snub?

Other documentaries were presumably also under consideration and not nominated, were they also snubbed?

The press give the public what they want, and the public want to read about them being snubbed. They've made enemies of the very people they need, due to unbelievable arrogance and stupidity. It doesn't matter who it is, when someone's downfall is caused by their own hubris, they generally become of interest to the press and social media.

costacoughee · 13/07/2023 07:47

Of course it's a snub. Most widely promoted on Netflix. Watched by millions. Grossed millions $$ Most popular on Netflix for weeks. No one on the planet (well not many) have heard of it. Massive newspaper coverage all over the world. Yet the Emmys (one of the most prestigious award ceremonies) don't give it a second glance.

They're relying on some (probably paid for) obscure dodgy award no one's even heard of. 😂

oh once again the bullying and privacy intrusions are their fault for not cosying up to people who had been misogynistic, racist and cruel to her.

The World of Awards is a strange one, isn't it? Hard to fathom at times.
