I guess Deadline has it in for the Sussexes too.
Just like the British press, the Cut, then WSJ, Bloomberg News, and Rolling Stone magazine. It's all a vast conspiracy against the Sussexes.

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Netflix Docuseries Snubbed By Emmy Voters

Netflix’s megahit documentary series on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to earn any Emmy nominations this morning, a snub that presumably will delight critics of the Duke and Duchess of Susse…

Those who don't like Oprah Winfrey because she interviewed Harry and Meghan will be disappointed to hear that the series on which she was one of the executive producers, The 1619 Project, was NOT snubbed like poor Meghan and Harry who were snubbed, SNUBBED I tell you. Did I mention they were fed a big fat snub sandwich with an extra helping of snub sandwich sauce? Snubbed!

The 1619 Project is one of the series that made it to the Emmys short list on the Documentary/NonFiction category.

Inspired by The New York Times essay series of the same name, the docuseries puts forward an interesting premise, that 1619 should be considered the year for America's alternative 'origin story" because that was the year the first slave ship landed from Africa. America, the series (and original essays) argue, was built on race, and not only is slavery America's original sin but it has informed every aspect of life in the US, from policing, the work place, voters rights and electoral participation, all the way to education and policies like affirmative action.

It's on Hulu if anyone is interested in watching it. The essays are also on the NYT website.

Many congratulations to Oprah and her team for not being SNUBBED!!

Why don't you ask the writer who wrote the article why they chose the word snub? It all adds up to the same thing anyway, the documentary was Rejected because it wasnt good enough to be even nominated.

So... because some writer of some article of some media outlet I've never heard of, calls it a snub, that means we all have to accept it is?

Don't think so!!!

You believed it enough to use the word "snub" in your title.

I don't really care if you don't think it was a snub. The point is, it was REJECTED.

Because I just copied and pasted the article title here word for word? Is that so hard to believe?

I’m sure there is more to this than meets the eye.

costacoughee · 13/07/2023 14:21

@MrsMaxDeWinter what does OWs documentary have to do with the Netflix show. Completely missing point 🤷🏻‍♀️

costacoughee · 13/07/2023 14:27

OW has made good shows for donkeys years The H&M interview did her no favours.

Serenster · 13/07/2023 15:01

There seem to be a lot of the professionally offended on this thread. For what it’s worth, it is entirely commonplace for commentators in publications to use the word “snubbed” to refer to projects that did not get awards nominations.

Here’s a couple of screenshots I took from just doing a Google search of “Emmy snub 2022” - I.e. before Meghan and Harry’s Netflix project had even been released to demonstrate how utterly usual the term is in this context.

I've been quite taken aback at how many of these awards charge for you to be considered. It's quite a business. I thought they'd be given on merit - particularly the Emmys. Because it can't possibly be considered the best if someone else didn't enter their work or didn't pay to be considered for a certain category.
Harry and Meghan have certainly opened my eyes to how these things, including charities, work in Hollywood. As ever, it's disappointing.

Gracewithoutend · 13/07/2023 16:22

Ricky Gervaise made jokes about how corrupt the Foreign Press/Golden Globes awards were. I think I read that the Foreign Press are being disassociated with the award and Golden Globes will carry on without them.

Howsimplywonderful · 13/07/2023 16:29

@Gracewithoutend

i had listened to a podcast on this very topic

Maireas · 13/07/2023 16:31

Oh, it's quite a business. You pay, get an award, get the publicity, it's great PR, win/win. These awards aren't exactly the Nobel Prize.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 13/07/2023 16:32

Helen Mirren
Rachel Weisz
Steve Martin
Steve Carrell

All among those being discussed as being SNUBBED by the Emmys this year.

But of course, OP will not say they were REJECTED because they are CRAP.

It's just Meghan and Harry who are SNUBBED and REJECTED for being CRAP!!!

Who? What? Why? This year’s Emmy snubs and surprises

From Obi-Wan Kenobi to What We Do in the Shadows, this year’s set of nominees offer up some strange choices and omissions

I think the first paragraph of the linked article sums up it up for this thread.

"Netflix’s megahit documentary series on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle failed to earn any Emmy nominations this morning, a snub that presumably will delight critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex"

If they had got nominated and won it would have delighted their fans. Not really surprising. But we would be hearing how wonderful and talented and popular they are. Shame.

Gracewithoutend · 13/07/2023 16:36

You don't pay to enter the Oscars, but we now know how much bribery goes on to get people to vote. A lot of the voters don't even watch all the films so they can make a fair judgement! And having, for many years, gone and watched every best film winner, I have no idea what the voters are basing their opinions on because there have been some real stinkers. Which makes you think...

Maireas · 13/07/2023 16:37

Indeed, @Gracewithoutend . Makes you wonder what changed hands, sometimes....

That is true.

The Guardian today says Helen Mirren was snubbed. If we use the meaning ascribed by OP, then Helen Mirren was REJECTED for being CRAP.

OP seems to think only Harry and Meghan have been "snubbed" this year, in fact the level of invective suggests that they are the only people who have missed out on Emmys.

It is that ridiculous hyperbole that some of us are pushing against.

CathyorClaire · 13/07/2023 16:50

I'm obviously very naïve because I had no idea entrants had to pay for their place in the various luvvie-fests.

Maybe Harold's tightening his belt as those income streams start to dry up 😬

Howsimplywonderful · 13/07/2023 16:50

@MrsMaxDeWinter

Helen Mirren isn’t a royal, so why would we be discussing her nomination or lack thereof on this thread, unless you think because she once played The Queen, she should be included 🤣

MrsMaxDeWinter · 13/07/2023 16:56

costacoughee · 13/07/2023 14:21

@MrsMaxDeWinter what does OWs documentary have to do with the Netflix show. Completely missing point 🤷🏻‍♀️

It has everything to do with it.

This was the same Emmy category in which they were SNUBBED.

I am sure any disappointment will be tempered by the knowledge that their friend Oprah has been nominated, and may win "their" category.

One person's SNUB is another person's win. And if it's a friend who wins, it's all the sweeter.

Gracewithoutend · 13/07/2023 16:56

I have no doubt, @Maireas , that bribery goes on within all these awards. Maybe not with money, but definitely in some kind. But I want to add that I'm not saying that Harry or Meghan are directly involved in that. I think it's just an accepted part of that life. We know how it seems almost accepted that they can borrow people's holiday homes and private jets. I'm sure that happened when H was a royal and that it's standard practice in Hollywood. You give me a little bit of this, and I'll give you a little bit of that. I wonder what happens when you don't have any little bits left to give?
Oblivion?

Maireas · 13/07/2023 16:59

I agree, @Gracewithoutend . You scratch my back....
I don't necessarily think that h and m are involved in corruption, but the whole process often sounds seedy.

Howsimplywonderful · 13/07/2023 16:59

@Gracewithoutend

Netflix probably could have bought them the nomination so either

Netflix couldn’t be bothered
or someone else negated the Netflix lobbying

Thats what’s I’m interested to find out

Netflix got 103 nominations, HBO 114 - these nominations are plentiful enough
