I really really don't get the want/need to stand somewhere for hours to get something first. Same goes for the pre covid boxing day Next sales, iPhone launching new phones and so on.

We have a local geographically back-to-back Waterspoons that will presumably be open for a midnight 10-pints of Stella book club. This will involve no-one paying for the book, incidentally. More of a 'loan'.

Ah the Taliban, always front of the line for an explosive situation or a truth bomb or too.

They are consistent, if nothing else.

I walked past our smiths twice at the weekend and on both occasions there were people standing looking at the display for it in the window and muttering darkly about it, one was an elderly guy pointing at the window with his walking stick bemoaning the cost of it and saying he wouldn't pay 10 p for it.
So on that obviously very representative sample, I do t think there will be a queue in my local town.

Bookshops won't open at midnight on the off chance; those that do will know customers are coming and will make an event of it. Whatever you think of Harry, it's a bit silly to pretend the book isn't a big deal - there is an immense amount of interest (from all sides!) and I think some posters need to prepare themselves for the fact it is going to be a massive bestseller. I look forward to reading all the creative explanations on here for the sales figures as people desperately try to find ways to discredit them.

The Taliban memes are absolutely vile, not funny and in incredibly bad taste particularly when you remember Salman Rushdie was attacked on stage at a book event recently. There's nothing to laugh at or gloat about there.

I'm sure it will sell well but why would you queue up in the middle of the night when you could get it two days earlier from Amazon?

No interest personally but good for them. It’s been a dire couple of years for them. Hope it boosts their accounts.
