Harry killed 25 people in Afghanistan and is upset about being thrown on a dog bowl?

Can't get my head around this honestly. I understand combat is different but I always got the impression that it's mostly strategic work and only a limited percentage of soldiers actually end up killing. A few lives would be bad enough but 25?!! Those were all sons, brothers, husbands and fathers as well.

But yeah, boohoo that he was pushed onto a dog bowl by his older brother and then paid millions and millions to portray himself as a victim of violence.

My friend was a soldier and never wanted to talk about the number of people he killed. God knows why anyone would firstly COUNT how many people they've killed and secondly tell the whole world like some ego boast.

It's gross.

He's mentally unwell and needs help. I say that with sincerity.

He claims he’s an anti racist yet doesn’t see the Afghan men he killed as people. I seriously doubt he would feel that way if they were white.

Xenia · 05/01/2023 19:33

I don't think their colour makes any difference. It would be the same were soldiers killing Russians who are white. However he is foolish given his position to have revealed it.

orbitalcrisis · 05/01/2023 19:33

How many people would you have to kill to stop counting? Personally, I would sorely regret and remember every single one while I still had my humanity.

BethDuttonsTwin · 05/01/2023 19:33

My Dad was a soldier and saw active service several times. I asked him once if he’d ever killed or wounded anyone and he said “I wouldn’t tell you if I had”. I’ve known 100s of soldiers and never known a single one of them want to talk about their “tally”. Find it pretty disgusting that he has released this information tbh and I would guess that most military people will feel the same way.

Soubriquet · 05/01/2023 19:33

I can’t hold what anyone does whilst at war.

Emotions are high. Adrenaline is running. You never feel safe. You’re going to react first and deal later

Same energy:

He broke his fucking necklace too. Shame on you for minimising his trauma. 😔

Most of them probably aren’t proud of it like Harry is 😳

DillDanding · 05/01/2023 19:35

I suspect they do count killings, but it’s not the done thing to talk about numbers outside of the job. As a civilian it’s pretty hard to get your head around. But they’re soldiers, it’s kill or be killed.

It doesn’t mean he can’t be upset to have had a fight with his aggressive brother.

limoncider · 05/01/2023 19:35

My partner is in the army.

I've never asked him how many people he's killed.

He's never volunteered that information. I'm sure he knows but he never talks about it.

It's most odd that Harry has chosen to.

There's no respect for jewellery these days. It's effing shocking.

I agree the aren’t connected.. other than the fact that sharing either story is bonkers

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 05/01/2023 19:39

It’s odd that he focuses on his necklace and the dog bowl.

DanseAvecLesLoups · 05/01/2023 19:40

Did he bore them to death reading the first draft of his book to them?

You're talking about two totally different situations. If you go to war then you have to be prepared to kill. I wouldn't be able to do it and I'd prefer no war but I should be grateful that some people do as I might not be living in a free society.

Being assaulted by someone you love would be hurtful.

Dogbowls having a bit of a rough time, as well.

Ladybrrrd · 05/01/2023 19:48

I genuinely don't care about the Royals. I haven't been watching the doc and don't plan on reading the book. But it's inescapable and just really irritating now. Who doesn't fight with their family? I've certainly had massive rows with siblings. Maybe a push here and there. Im just nor convinced by the sob story and he's getting so much milage out of it.

My dad was in the military. Just crass to talk about, never mind being proud, about lives you've had to extinguish.

…in your 30s??

My DGF (professional soldier for 40 years inc WW2) never said ANYTHING about what he saw and what he did. All his stories were him doing daft things and cocking up. Ditto DF (also WW2, Merchant Navy). I'm sure DGF killed people, he was fighting in a war and that was his job. No idea what PH thinks he's achieving by doing this unless it's the whole 'well unlike most of my family, I actually served in a war zone' to demonstrate 'service.'

😂😂😂

More likely, they killed themselves to make it stop.

Quveas · 05/01/2023 19:54

I don't honestly give a shit about any of them. Not watched the series - any of them. Or the newspapers. Won't read the book. Will abolish the monarchy tomorrow given the chance.

But... none of you have bloody read the book yet either. It hasn't been published.

And did you notice WHY we were in Afghanistan, or what is happening now we've left? Taking a life, no matter what the justification, should never be easy. But nor should we allow bullies and despots to dictate human rights or the rights of women.

And we should absolutely stand against domestic violence in any form.

It makes me laugh that there are hundreds of threads here disgusted at the fact that someone has "aired their story" . Have you seen what site you are on? The entire site relishes in people airing their dirty linen in public. And MN promotes itself and makes money out of doing exactly this. Hypocrites all of you.

You really can escape it. I got sick of vivid news during lockdown so I turned off the news and avoided news. It's really that simple.

Isn't that information a security threat ?
