(hope I spelt that right) is it a good thing that he is not having one?

Probably, not Welsh but their seems to be a bit of ill feeling over the PoW title.

The RF are under scrutiny anyway. They have spent lots this year on the Jubilee and the Funeral.

It's widely speculated that Charles will have his Coronation next year.
I don't think they need another expensive parade if that's the right way to put it in 2023.

StormzyinaTCup · 28/09/2022 09:28

I do recall reading an article that suggested that the POW investiture may be done at the same time as the King's coronation (for cost purposes I believe). Not sure if there is any truth in that or not. Certainly can't see anything happening on either in the next 6 months or so.

Samcro · 28/09/2022 09:31

i do remember that there was bad feeling when Charles was made POW.
im sure on the news it said PW wasn't having one.

I think it's fine to go without

Unlikely it would have happened before the coronation anyhow

If they do decide to have some sort of ceremony, then they could do something much lower key in an appropriate cathedral. Full-on Investiture as happened last time isn't necessary, neither is delay (as William is adult) and it could be covered in the general swearing of allegiance that happens at a coronation

EdithWeston · 28/09/2022 09:40

My guess is the Coronation will be next June, at around the time of the Trooping of the Colour (I'm also guessing that the Official Birthday will continue and will remain in early June, as the King's actual birthday is November)

There have been lots of coronations the summer following accession, so well-precedented

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 28/09/2022 09:49

I hope he isnt because I cant imagine a more pointless exercise.

Dinoteeth · 28/09/2022 10:00

@EdithWeston I think they'll combine the Coronation with Trooping the Colour in some sort of way. Did they not combine the jubilee with TTC?

It's probably already planned out same as the funerals. They sort of knew it was coming.

antelopevalley · 28/09/2022 13:38

There is already so much unhappiness in Wales about the title that I think they have sensibly decided an investiture is not a good idea.

NoYouSirName · 28/09/2022 13:42

Definitely a good thing. It would end up being the focus of massive political unrest. If he did have one, Caernarfon is literally the worst possible choice of venue!

Serenster · 28/09/2022 19:13

They most recent poll (this week) showed only 22% of those polled were negative about William taking the title of Prince of Wales, so I don’t think that’s an accurate depiction. Certainly not everyone supports it, but there have always been supporters of republicanism and nationalism. Their numbers don’t seem to be increasing much over the long term.

Also, “investing” the Prince of Wales is a made up thing anyway. Edward VIII and obviously Charles were formally invested, but I think it’s only happened once or maybe twice before that? When the Prince is a 40 year old I think it seems a bit pointless, and also an unnecessary expenditure.

CathyorClaire · 28/09/2022 20:10

Anything that means one less crass and costly royal circus is a good thing.

Samcro · 30/09/2022 11:03

thanks for the info, I obviously only remember when Charles had his, so thought it was something that had to happen like a coranation.

I get why they don't want to do it with all the expense. It is a shame for Caernarfon to not get a change to be "shown off". One thing about the funeral was how gorgeous London looked. Sorry if that seems shallow.

declutteringmymind · 30/09/2022 14:48

I think they are lying low a little and have read the room so to speak.

Maireas · 30/09/2022 14:50

They won't combine the Coronation with the Trooping of the Colour.
They're two very distinct ceremonies.
However, William may get "invested" as PoW as he pays homage to his father at the Coronation.

I think this might well happen or something similar. It's been a long time since there was a Prince of Wales at a coronation, but I think the tradition is for the PoW to have a separate procession with attendants, etc. at a coronation. And he would be the first to pay homage. So his participation could be similar to an investiture.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/10/2022 14:31

I have a feeling William might want to update the kit a bit, especially the puffy sleeve action going on here.

I think it might be a bit tone deaf to do an investiture for Prince of Wales at the same time as the King’s coronation, as the coronation will take place in London. As said above, it’s not like the whole of Wales are against the title, but it wouldn’t really go down too well for any kind of ceremony to take place outside of Wales.

Trees6 · 01/10/2022 14:43

They have probably been advised that there could be tensions.

Maireas · 01/10/2022 14:43

Indeed, Seneca! That was the coronet that naughty David took with him when he abdicated.....

Nat6999 · 01/10/2022 15:02

The coronation is to be slimmed down, at least the King is listening to the fact that the country is in a cost of living crisis.

Maireas · 01/10/2022 15:03

The country was in austerity in 1953.

Novella4 · 01/10/2022 15:05

W and K kept their recent PR event in Wales quiet until the last minute to avoid more protesters . They won't do an 'investiture' ( you do realise that the POW one in 1969 was completely made up) .
They'll try to spin it as being'frugal' and gullible types will believe that.

Here's an idea - ask the people of Wales if they want him imposed.

More protestors? I saw the photos of the crowds who came to see them, despite the last minute notice as you say. I haven’t seen any photos of any protestors there though (not even on the twitter feeds of a couple of the organisations calling for people to go along and protest). Where were they?
