(hope I spelt that right) is it a good thing that he is not having one?

OP posts:

So you are stating that some of the small crowd pictured weren't selectively given notice ? Right...
No protesters is proof that notice wasn't widely given !

Here the protest in 1969 . Even the most subservient royalist won't claim that the royals are more popular now

Princessglittery · 01/10/2022 16:32

They will probably include in the coronation, which is highly likely to be Friday 2nd June 2023.

Its the same day as the Queen was crowned, they can mirror the Jubilee by switching the Late Spring BH and adding an extra BH. Trooping the colour could be on the Saturday.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/10/2022 16:34

you do realise that the POW one in 1969 was completely made up

It wasn't completely made up. It did borrow a few things from the completely made up one of 1911.

The country was in austerity in 1953.

Yes, and everyone was really cheesed off, especially since some things were still rationed, even then. I believe the reason they went for such a huge coronation was to raise the spirits of the nation. This was at a time when most people were Royalists and still proud to be British, of course.

I could never imagine KC ever wanting such a big occasion. He's had long enough to think about the sort of coronation he would want, and he isn't into that sort of pomp and circumstance, I don't think.

Pinktrews77 · 01/10/2022 16:56

What struck me about this is that the rules and traditions are all so arbitrary aren’t they? Except when, according to the RF, they are not!

For one P of W there is huge investiture; for his son, a mere announcement! I don’t really care either way but for me it highlights the absurdity of it all!

Novella4 · 01/10/2022 20:07

@Pinktrews77
Exactly . Completely arbitrary.

Look up coronations before ( and after ) Victoria .
Drunkenness , half hearted ' rites' invented ceremonies to impress the peasants . Riots when the Hanoverians took over

And now all this breathless reverence as if it's always been that way . Such nonsense .

The firm are taking in millions.
Laughing all the way to the bank

AsAnyFuleKno · 01/10/2022 20:16

I can't imagine Camilla being in favour of lots of big, showy events. She'll do her duty by Charles's side, but she hates being the centre of attention.

Novella4 · 01/10/2022 20:20

As the pen episode showed, Camilla will do as she is told .

She looked terrified .

There is already so much unhappiness in Wales about the title that I think they have sensibly decided an investiture is not a good idea.

They most recent poll (this week) showed only 22% of those polled were negative about William taking the title of Prince of Wales, so I don’t think that’s an accurate depiction. Certainly not everyone supports it, but there have always been supporters of republicanism and nationalism. Their numbers don’t seem to be increasing much over the long term.

Also, “investing” the Prince of Wales is a made up thing anyway. Edward VIII and obviously Charles were formally invested, but I think it’s only happened once or maybe twice before that? When the Prince is a 40 year old I think it seems a bit pointless, and also an unnecessary expenditure.

I think 22% is high considering most people will not care one way or another.

Novella4 · 01/10/2022 20:24

'Of those polled'

These ad hoc ( or deliberately selected) polls are useless .

People need a proper vote on this

Serenster · 01/10/2022 20:37

I think 22% is high considering most people will not care one way or another.

It was a YouGov poll conducted for ITV Cymru Wales and Cardiff University of 1,014 people aged 16 and over.

Actually only 17% were in the “don’t care” box. 66% supported Prince William being given the title (so, 3 times as many supported him as opposed it).

antelopevalley · 01/10/2022 20:45

Support can mean lukewarm support. My partner would tick support although they would feel meh about it.

Serenster · 01/10/2022 20:55

That’s nice. Completely irrelevant to the survey responses, though. 😂

bellac11 · 01/10/2022 20:58

I would love to see it. I loved all the jubilee and funeral pomp and circumstance when I thought that I wouldnt enjoy it

I think that during the days after the death a huge focus on was on Edinburgh and London and they got the chance to show off and its right that a similar type of focus is on Wales as part of this.

Have to think of something different for NI.

Novella4 · 01/10/2022 20:59

1014 people = useless

What's the problem with a vote ?

Novella4 · 01/10/2022 21:01

@bellac11
Oh I bet the royals would love to waste millions on another massive PR operation if they could possibly get away with it

Yet they aren't .
Ask yourself why .

Why would there be a vote?

I get that you don’t like the YouGov outcome as it doesn’t support your point of view, but it’s reliable, statistically significant sample from a well known and trusted research organisation.

If you’d rather rely on anecdotal evidence - well, you have the hundreds of people who turned up at short notice in Swansea to see the new Prince and Princess of Wales. You can tell us they’re unpopular til you’re blue in the face, but your echo chamber isn’t being reflected in what is visible to everyone else.

She didn't seem terrified to me.
She does a lot of work supporting women who are victims of domestic abuse, I don't think she'd stay in an abusive relationship.

antelopevalley · 01/10/2022 22:55

I don't think Camilla was scared Charles would hit her. She seemed more concerned that he would kick off.

Catonthedesk · 01/10/2022 23:00

Terrified? God's sake don't be ridiculous

Novella4 · 02/10/2022 09:47

@Serenster
No I would not rely on anecdote .
That's why I want a vote on the matter .

What's the problem with that ?

Novella4 · 02/10/2022 09:49

@Maireas
To clarify I meant 'terrified ' that he'd make a scene . Which he nearly did .

No wonder she lives in a separate house . Kate seems to be doing the same .
William seems similar

That's a bit of a stretch. You don't know that about either couple and it seems a bit unfair.

Novella4 · 02/10/2022 10:57

It's true I know no more than any posters here . But my god - the coldness and distance between W and K is palpable .

Novella4 · 02/10/2022 10:58

Oh Camilla does have her own house . She uses it .
