As pp's have said I believe PC and PW will have pushed this hard with HMQ.

It's the right call but it should have been done much sooner imho.

You feel sorry for HMQ to a degree, but on the whole PA has been a liability for a long time and should have had his wings clipped decades ago.

He's going to rue that Matlis interview for sure.

He's so bloody used to having people believe what he says because of who he is, that it didn't occur to him people would question highly incredulous claims (Pizza Express/SweatFree) that his team admit he has zero proof of.

I just can't see where he can go with this. He can't invent new alibi's now he gone on record say he has no recollection of VG at all and no alibi.

If VG won't settle, going to trial will be a disaster for PA and the RF by association.

Damage limitation for sure....with a stress on limitation....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2022 19:45

Is this where we'll start to hear noises about Andrew and Fergie remarrying? Spouses can't testify against each other if that applies? And Philip is no longer around to object

Interesting thought
I'd like to think that even Fergie wouldn't be that tasteless, but then without him she's got practically nothing so ...

GellerYeller · 13/01/2022 19:50

I've just said to a friend that I wouldn't be surprised if he remarries Fergie!

LakieLady · 13/01/2022 19:52

@derxa

"But she can't see that having a royal family is completely at odds with the equality she otherwise believes in." She might just be winding you up. I know I do this with pompous people in real life
Nice conjecture, but she isn't, and it doesn't wind me up!
LakieLady · 13/01/2022 19:53

I know PA isn't even in the top 10 in line any more, but if some sort of disaster befell all those before him, would he still become king?

Yes I agree with all of this. Before the Matlis interview, a good defence team could have helped him come up with a good defence. But now he either has to stick to the ridiculous things he said in the interview which will simply make him look guilty. Or he has to say he lied and now he is telling the truth as he gives a different defence - which also makes him look guilty.
codexa · 13/01/2022 19:57

How anyone could think the RF is anything but a nest of vipers is beyond me.

Unquestioning loyalty to this (and other) entities funded largely by the great unwashed doesn't usually end well.

The arrogance of the lot of the lazy sods annoys me greatly anyway. No one missed them during Covid did they? Wish they would all stay behind the walls of Windsor and live on rations.

Doesn't the new monarch have to be OK'd by parliament these days (after Glorious Revolution/William & Mary etc)?
Roussette · 13/01/2022 20:03

I bet he rues the day he did that ridiculous interview. It was one of those events I remember distinctly because it was so awful.

I never quite understood why they split up. I mean they seemed so well suited. Charles and Diana were always incompatible so no great surprise there.

Was it his constant fraternising with young girls that caused the split with fergie?

100problems · 13/01/2022 20:06

Well, you have to hand it to HMQ when she considered the time was right (and what mother would wish this on another whomever they may be) the outcome is irrevocable.

We can sit in judgement and say it should have been sooner, but my goodness what a dreadful and unenviable decision to have to make.

Now, if only our PM had as much backbone in his 50's as this woman in her 90's.

100problems · 13/01/2022 20:08

If Andrew is no longer an HRH given that was a fate of birth as opposed to marrying in, does that impact his daughters in the line of succession and title?

diddl · 13/01/2022 20:10

"but on the whole PA has been a liability for a long time and should have had his wings clipped decades ago."

Yup!

You would have thought walking in the park with a convicted sex offender might have done it if nothing else.

I mean really, if he thought he had to see Epstein, why do it in public??

derxa · 13/01/2022 20:11

Was it his constant fraternising with young girls that caused the split with fergie? This is the thing that puzzles me. Throughout his life he hasn/t shown a predilection for young girls. Do you remember Koo Stark? If he had married her he might not be in this mess. Who knows

SnottyLottie · 13/01/2022 20:15

I’m not saying that any of them have done it on purpose, but I bet Kate Middleton wishes that her in-laws would stop making such dramatic announcements around her birthday/birthday week 😆

(Joke post in case anyone takes me seriously)

100problems · 13/01/2022 20:21

Koo Stark is now 65, was 24 when she dated Andrew who was 21.

CathyorClaire · 13/01/2022 20:21

It's good news in theory but in practice it changes very little.

He hasn't had a public life and by extension the chance to be fawned over as HRH since Newsnight but he's had the run of umpteen palaces and their extensive grounds, facilities and staff.

No doubt he'll still expect and get to be 'sir' within royal bounds and no doubt we'll still have to cough for his security detail whenever he decides to race his convoy of top range motors up and down the country.

It's a sop to the plebs IMO although even I can't say I'm not grateful we won't have to endure his smug boat beaming down on the hordes from the balcony come Jubilee day.

100problems · 13/01/2022 20:22

But apologies @derxa I misread the gist of your post.

Serenster · 13/01/2022 20:24

I read the right action has been taken. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's guilty. I prefer to wait for a trial and substantiated facts rather than the irrational ramblings of some on MN

Yes, this does not mean he’s actually guilty of the assaults alleged by Virginia Giuffre, and that may never be proved. But let’s be real here, he has totally demonstrated he’s a sleaze with terrible terrible judgement and a deeply ingrained arrogance who is, any way you try to cut it, bringing his family and their role into disrepute because of what he has got himself involved in. I say that deliberately - he was not innocently drawn into something. His interactions with Epstein were entirely by his choice.

I am very pleased that the family has finally had the sense to see that they have to get on top of this story and show that they won’t tolerate him remaining in his position. They should have done so a while ago, of course, but I imagine there was a lot of family stuff to work through.

BoarOnTheFloor · 13/01/2022 20:24

I mean really, if he thought he had to see Epstein, why do it in public??

I think the walk was probably Epstein’s idea. There’s an interesting article upthread where the journalist and photographer who took the picture talk about the circumstances.

ecceromani · 13/01/2022 20:24

@100problems

They said on news he is still HRH it's just that he won't use it in public (presumably so it's not used in court or anything to do with the case!)
CathyorClaire · 13/01/2022 20:25

I never quite understood why they split up. I mean they seemed so well suited.

Yep. Thick, grasping and entitled Like calls to like...

Cuck00soup · 13/01/2022 20:27

I remember all the fuss and the concern that she would bring the monarchy into disrepute. As if.

Go on, one fact I got wrong.
