Seriously, @derxa? Yes seriously. Money isn't everything and I should know.
This decision to strip Andrew of his military patronages and HRH is very good news. Imagine having to toast him.

theNumbersStation · 13/01/2022 18:28

This has been coming a long time and I’m glad it has now come to pass. I would be pricking up my ears if I were V’s legal team because I don’t believe he would have been stripped unless there was some sort of admission.

The only thing that makes me unhappy about this terrible situation re PA, GM and JE is that there are probably many more of them still in the shadows.

JE can’t attest any more but I wish these two would start singing. It is high bloody time others were called to task.

theNumbersStation · 13/01/2022 18:29

And yes, I think PC and PW will have had a say in this.

CurzonDax · 13/01/2022 18:31

Glad the Queen has finally done this.

I winder if it was her own decision (based on her arvisors) or how much input Charles had.

EdithWeston · 13/01/2022 18:32

@Roussette

Yes. He's always liked poncing about in uniform with enough medals to fill a dressing up box. This will be hell for him. He likes the prestige more than anyone.
Well, he won't be getting the Jubilee medal now, will he!

BBC is reporting (unsourced, but on the main Six O'Clock News, so they must be pretty damn sure) that the military are relieved that he is no longer associated

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2022 18:32

at least she's acknowledged that having a son playing with convicted paedophiles and sex traffickers isn't good for the crown

Actually I think it's the justifiable fuss that's been made around Andrew that's led to this rather than what he's done

After all there's nothing to suggest the Queen objected to Charles' links to paedophiles, but then nobody's ever tried to bring a case against him over any of it (or have they? ...)

PlanktonsComputerWife · 13/01/2022 18:39

Oh, I rather like the C of E.

@derxa

My MIL(83, but very intelligent and still with all her marbles in place) loves them all, to the point where she refuses to believe that Andrew has, or even may have, done anything wrong. Ah those evil MILs
She's not evil at all, just has a couple of blind spots: the royals and Brexit (her solution to the Irish border issue is that "they should all go back to being one country", but she meant as part of the UK, not Irish unification!).

She's incredibly kind, believes in social welfare, social housing, the NHS, nationalised essential services and is very disappointed that one set of GC's are in private schools. But she can't see that having a royal family is completely at odds with the equality she otherwise believes in.

SnottyLottie · 13/01/2022 18:42

Omg she actually did it!

I wonder if she did it of her own accord or if she was leaned upon to act before further damage was done (not that there’s a lot more damage to be done)

LakieLady · 13/01/2022 18:44

@NiceShrubbery

Those MILs were impressionable teens when the 1953 coronation was broadcast. It's like pope worship, you can't reason with them.
My mum died 11 years ago, but she was a few years older than MIL. She was 20 in 1953, but was still a republican through and through, despite having taken some sort of oath of allegiance when she joined the Wrens.
AllThePogs · 13/01/2022 18:45

I think the letter from was it 140 veterans, meant that she had no choice.
Unlike Boris Johnson, her advisors can see when an issue will blow up if they don't tackle it straight away.

LizzieW1969 · 13/01/2022 18:47

It’s also been made clear that PA will be fighting VG’s claims as a private individual, not as part of the RF. I wonder whether this means that he’s funding his own legal fees?

EdithWeston · 13/01/2022 18:50

I'd bet it was on her own accord (but with Princes Charles and William as sounding boards)

She's pretty tough. I expect she'd been hanging on until the latest possible moment (in the vague hope of progress, though heaven knows what there could have been) but knew that it had be be dealt with before the Jubilee and when the time came was swift and decisive.

Wasn't it a bit like that with the Wales divorce - happy to leave them to drift along separated and sort it between themselves over time, until the moment came to end the public War Of The Wales then it was also fast and firm

He won't be. I doubt he can afford it.
NiceShrubbery · 13/01/2022 18:51

I meant those MILs. Not all of them!! Glad your mum was an independent thinker.

So, Charlie and Wills threw dodgy uncle under a bus so they can hang on to the Duchy. What took them so long?

Squeaky clean aren't you Charlie. No chance of anything at all coming to light about your past associations 😏...

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 13/01/2022 18:56

@PrestonHood121

Fergie must be beside herself right now lol
Is this where we'll start to hear noises about Andrew and Fergie remarrying? Spouses can't testify against each other if that applies? And Philip is no longer around to object.
PlanktonsComputerWife · 13/01/2022 18:57

I wonder if Andrew'll be evicted from Royal Lodge when Charles III takes the throne, or if it's possible.

derxa · 13/01/2022 18:58

How incredibly patronising

AndAnotherNewOne · 13/01/2022 18:58

@NiceShrubbery

That first phrase is so cringey

Cringey? How old are you? Or are you Katie Price? Grin

How about look at some facts and try to differentiate them from silly opinions.

You seem to have got several wrong already - you aren't in a position to judge, really.

But I admit, I am extremely prejudiced against thieving monarchs, liars and sex offenders. I shall pray for deliverance of my tarnished soul

Good of you to confess your inadequacy. I prefer truth to conjecture.

I read the right action has been taken. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's guilty. I prefer to wait for a trial and substantiated facts rather than the irrational ramblings of some on MN.

Vapeyvapevape · 13/01/2022 19:04

I wonder if Andy will go cap in hand to his friends threatening to dob them in and ask them for a loan ?

diddl · 13/01/2022 19:13

Well it's all to save The Crown isn't it?

He'll probably still get his quarter of a mill pocket money from his mum!

LizzieW1969 · 13/01/2022 19:16

@AllThePogs

Maybe that luxury chalet in Verbier will finally be sold to pay his legal fees?

Or a loan from one of his other dodgy friends now he can no longer approach Epstein?

LakieLady · 13/01/2022 19:30

@Malibuismysecrethome

Re the pedophiles at the BBC I was extremrr we my shocked to see that Eric Gill statue and how graphic it was with a grown male and a very young boy. Apparently depiciting Prospero, who on Earth commissioned, paid and authorised that! Talk about hiding in plain sight. I think it should be well and truly torn down disgusting piece of child abuse on their premises.
Eric Gill was an utter old pervert and frequently referred to by locals as "the dog rogerer" (he lived quite near where I live, and I've met people who knew him). I'm amazed no-one's gone for that statue before.

That notwithstanding, I think it is an incredibly beautiful sculpture. I'm not convinced that the vile behaviour of the artist invalidates the beauty of their work, tbh.

What I actually said was:

"But she can't see that having a royal family is completely at odds with the equality she otherwise believes in."

Pity you didn't quote the whole sentence @derxa, from which I think it was perfectly clear that I was pointing out a contradiction between her socialist principles and her love of the monarchy. If noting this sort of illogical thinking is being "patronising", I'll wear that badge with pride.

derxa · 13/01/2022 19:42

"But she can't see that having a royal family is completely at odds with the equality she otherwise believes in." She might just be winding you up. I know I do this with pompous people in real life
