New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

I think H and M are in danger of getting into the same kind of bother as Fergie and Andrew.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2020 11:54

I’ve just looked at a property tax calculator. I thought it would give me the tax free amount. But it didn’t.

Surely we aren’t seriously talking about these amounts. One site cited .81% of the value is levied annually. That would be circa 145k USD. even if it’s 0.755 that’s around 136k.

What is the tax free amount? And am I missing something here?

My house is worth say 750k. That would mean we would have to pay 6k. That is still very steep.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/05/2020 11:55

Why would you lend your property to a complete stranger, free of charge, possibly incurring tax costs yourself, possibly without any long term arrangement for getting it back again, unless you saw some material gain for yourself? This is such a dodgy set up.

KonTikki · 11/05/2020 12:00

My imaginary:
Exactly, there is no such thing as a free lunch. H&M will be expected to pay back at some stage.
What a wonderful position for a member of the RF to find themselves in.
That Russian / Israeli oligarch who lent them the house in Vancouver was, I'm sure, doing it out of pure generosity.
Bless !

TimeLady · 11/05/2020 12:06

Oprah is godmother to Perry's child so I suspect she was calling in a personal favour, especially if it was empty but staffed. It probably means they're not having to pay for protection either unless they go out, as Perry will undoubtedly have permanent security there anyway.

She's making sure any big tell-all interview will be hers.

7Worfs · 11/05/2020 12:17

Thanks TimeLady, some of those backgrounds look fun!

HAM are definitely going to feel indebted to too many powerful people who helped them in their hour (year) of need.
It won’t be pretty.

ButteryPuffin · 11/05/2020 12:29

Can't give a link atm but the BBC have made loads of empty set images from well known shows available as Zoom backgrounds. The Queen Vic, inside the Tardis etc. You'll find them if you Google. They're really good!

MrsJoshNavidi · 11/05/2020 12:40

Oh I see! Thanks Vampire

MrsJoshNavidi · 11/05/2020 12:44

Perhaps because you have so many houses you can't possibly use them all, so it's nice to see at least one of them being aired? Wink

That is a good point actually, and I suppose H&M's presence makes it more secure. But I can't believe someone in TP's position would be too worried about that, his People would be expected to take care of his property for him. It seems much more transactional somehow.

RosesandIris · 11/05/2020 13:12

I wonder if it’s a way to coerce the RF into bankrolling them without complaint. A sort of your made us leave. We’ll embarrass you by behaving like spongers if you don’t support us.’

Still planning to be spongers, then, just sponging off a better class of person Hmm

H&M are going to be hugely indebted to many people, who are not friends with loyalty to them, and when they call in those favours, H&M are either going to have to have something to give or else become outcasts.

TimeLady · 11/05/2020 13:45

What's MM hoping for next - a part in one of Perry's productions?

This one might suit...Grin

The Haves and the Have Nots is a television drama that follows the complicated dynamic between the rich and powerful Cryer family and the hired help who work in their opulent mansion set in Savannah, Georgia.

From the outside, the Cryers are the enviable face of success and wealth, but behind the veil the family’s dysfunction threatens to destroy their world of privilege. Cryer family patriarch Jim Cryer (John Schneider) is a powerful judge whose double-life, including tawdry affairs with high-priced escorts, puts his family and political ambitions at risk. His wife, Katheryn Cryer (Renée Lawless), is the ultimate matriarch portraying a loving and dutiful wife, but she is willing to do anything to protect her family’s status. Their son Wyatt (Aaron O’Connell) is a troubled angry jock who cares little for his own image and finds himself in and out of rehab. His sister Amanda (Jacyln Betham), a struggling law student, tries harder to live up to her parents’ expectations, but unknowingly has befriended a scurrilous young woman, Candace Young, with the power to ruin the entire family.

Hanna Young (Crystal Fox) is the Cryer’s maid and the matriarch of her family. Despite having no money, she has found other types of wealth through religion and virtue. She prides herself on her dutiful son Benny (Tyler Lepley), the glue who helps keep the family together. Hanna does have one dark secret, however, her estranged daughter Candace (Tika Sumpter)—a manipulative opportunist who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Other characters in the series include the Cryer’s chef Celine (Eva Tamargo), their wealthy friends Veronica (Angela Robinson) and David Harrington (Peter Parros), and son Wyatt’s rehabilitation counselor, Jeffery Harrington (Gavin Houston).

Cast: John Schneider, Tika Sumpter, Crystal Fox, Renée Lawless, Aaron O’Connell, Tyler Lepley, Peter Parros, Angela Robinson, Gavin Houston, Brett Davis, Brock Yurich

Network: OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network
Directed By: Tyler Perry

Oh look, Oprah Winfrey's name pops up ....again.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/05/2020 13:47

That's what I mean, @SunbathingDragon. It places them in a position of indebtedness.

Inspiralcarpetry · 11/05/2020 14:17

Trying to figure out who potentially gets what from the favours...
MM - an acting role in any upcoming Tyler Perry productions.
Oprah - first dibs on a doe-eyed blinky interview.
MM and H - free digs.
Tyler Perry - continued relationship with Oprah.
Harry - not sure what he personally gets out of it! He's the odd one out!Grin
Anyone know if they've paid Frogmore back yet?

Becles · 11/05/2020 14:17

Sooo, just checking where confirmation came that they are not paying for the house?

We seem to have moved rapidly into grey areas of defamation.

RosesandIris · 11/05/2020 14:23

Yes indeed. Just sponging off celebs instead.

@087Worfs download a picture from the internet and add it in as background ( for zoom calls).
I searched and downloaded some backgrounds of stately homes (ha).
My DS had a tropical beach with palms etc

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/05/2020 15:04

Yes, you're right Becles, it may indeed be paid for. But it seems unlikely that they are paying commercial rates for a rental property of that size and location. So at best they are getting mates' rates and all that that implies.

Mamamia456 · 11/05/2020 15:12

RoseandIris - How do you know they are "sponging". You have no idea what the arrangement is. People on here need to remember this is a public forum that anyone has access to.

TinRoofRusty · 11/05/2020 15:20

He looked dire. He doesn't appear to be ageing well.

MrsJoshNavidi · 11/05/2020 15:50

If I was free loading off a couple of rich mates for months on end my parents and friends would have a word with me although they don't seem to have any real friends

Rainbunny · 11/05/2020 16:36

I think H needs to have a better care for his reputation. It's one thing to accept free hospitality and private jets from the like of Elton John and Amal Clooney but if they keep taking handouts from all and sundry (well, wealthy sundry) it's going to start looking look seedy.

We still don't know who actually owns the mansion they stayed at on Vancouver island other than the fact that he was a rich Russian man who H apparently met at the Google Environment gathering in Italy (the one where H flew in on a private jet and gave a lecture barefoot about watching our carbon footprints...) So a random rich Russian man, now Tyler Perry. It's one thing to stay at your friend's place but it seems rather obvious that they barely know these people, if at all. They're beginning to give off the undignified whiff of being freeloaders IMO.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 11/05/2020 16:45

I can’t quite believe he’s used the surviving & thriving sentence when we have the highest death toll in Europe. And I don’t care who he addressed that video to, it’s completely tone deaf imo.
