New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

Could it be that HMQ and her advisors are happy to go with a set up that gives Harry years worth of debt?

If anyone in this mess is modelling multiple scenarios it will be the grey men:

1 H&M's new life goes well - they accelerate the repayments for the renovation and termination of the lease is discussed. All debts discharged in a couple of years time.

2 H returns alone at some point - There are debts to the marriage and H has an established home costing £££ a year. It leaves less for a court based alimony payment. She will not get a huge settlement as Harry is comparatively poor (to us he's not but compared to his Dad). Then HMQ / POW step in with a cash sum BUT she has to sign the mother of NDAs to get it. She will be obliged to take it particularly if Sussex not-Royal has not been as lucrative as she has expected.

3 H&M return together at start of 2021 - nope, never gonna happen. They will stay together until money tensions and his homesickness make it all implode.

So perhaps the small repayments have been advised as a 'help to get their new life going' but with BP hedging their bets on Option 2 happening and the need to show Harry is actually rather 'poor'.

He should have paid it back by now.

There's no excuse for his reluctance to make a clear statement available to the public.

Womanlywiles · 18/05/2020 18:39

I live on the West Coast of the USA. As you all know things are extremely serious over here in terms of the economy, although our West Coast Governors (California, Oregon and Washington) are all Democrats and worked in unison, following the science and we have much lower infection rates and deaths than say, NYC or the UK. However I think if M & H release a book (ok let's pretend it's just Omid Scobie's idea) expressing how they have suffered while moving from Royalty in the UK to an 18m house within the LA elite it will be a terrible PR move for them. People are already really suffering here with no meaningful social safety net. If there is no hope of a vaccine as we are looking into Autumn by August the national mood will be very dark.

I think they keep releasing these videos to try and stop people from forgetting about them entirely, but to be honest if I wasn't reading the UK papers and mumsnet I would be oblivious to them over here. I think they have to be very, very careful. They could end up unintentionally making themselves poster childs for an entitled elite immune to the nations suffering. We are going through a profound change here. Either Trump gets in again and there is no hope for the US, or the Democrats sweep the Presidency and Senate and we have a new New Deal similar to FDR where circumstances finally force what the polls show the American public want, which is universal health care and a social democracy. 3 million more Americans voted for Hillary. Trump is NOT what the nation want.

I think unfortunately with many of the choices M & H have made, they make decisions too quickly. They don't take their time getting to understand their constituency and even forming a clear identity for themselves. Lying low completely out of sight (which they could've easily done) until we all had a much better understanding of what this pandemic will mean for the world, the USA and the UK would've been wise. Meghan seems to be using a Hollywood playbook that really has to be torn up now. She clearly is interested in fame, power and influence. Harry actually had that but just unwittingly binned it and burnt the house down on the way out. They are not going to have adoring crowds waiting for them wherever they go anymore. That's comes with royalty but they had the hubris to think they were a "Power Couple" without a major Royal role.

People are savvy, they can see behind the curtain of the Wizard of Oz. Without their previous roles suddenly the coach turns back into a pumpkin and Harry is a bit of a Tim nice but Dim, he is very entitled but doesn't actually have a lot to bring to the table except his connections. MM is a savvy operator but doesn't have the gravitas or talent of a true Hollywood player. They weren't in their roles long enough to have grown and gained true influence. They keep using the terms "humanitarians". For a start, that's really a moniker for others to give, when we believe an individual has made significant contributions to humanity that can't be denied. Their understanding of what that means seems to run Instagram deep. Which might have worked pre-COVID but now everyone is looking for real leadership and meaningful skills that are based in deep experience. Money isn't going to be thrown around the way it was in January when Harry gave his talk to a Wall St bank's glittering guests. We are entering a new and scary world. This pair are showing their naivety if they put themselves right in the firing line as scapegoats for clueless, heartless elites.

ButteryPuffin · 18/05/2020 18:52

@Mamamia456 ooh, that's an interesting observation. I'd never paid attention before to the Mail's house style, but looking at other articles shows that they put quoted speech in single quotation marks, as in this article where they quote a number of excerpts from Harry's parting public speeches:

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7930889/amp/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markles-Sussex-Royal-Instagram-takes-Prince-William-Kate-Middleton.html?ico=amp_articleRelated

So looks like they are signalling quoted speech in the article linked earlier. Presumably from the 'Palace source'...

Wolfgirrl · 18/05/2020 18:55

I would have thought if he did have millions in the bank he would have paid it back in one lump sum.

This made me laugh out loud

Wolfgirrl · 18/05/2020 18:58

@7Worfs

Seriously? (I'm sarcasm impaired)

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/05/2020 19:01

Having clicked on the link, I don’t remember people scrambling to buy the clothes Archie was wearing on photo of him and PH in Canada was revealed.

If this is the case, perhaps there isn’t an appetite for buying the clothes Archie is dressed in. Perhaps this was why he was dressed so neutrally.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/05/2020 19:01

She can't work and be a working royal, so give it up. Harry doesn't have to, and I'm sure he could have made a success of regular commonwealth tours and the odd UK flying visit.

I think this would be quite insulting to the members of the Commonwealth, a part time afterthought of a royal popping in for a quick sunshine break, no doubt with MM holding on to him for grim death.

It's time for the Commonwealth role to be taken on by a member of the RF with a direct connection to the throne.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/05/2020 19:03

Posted too soon. What I mean is they may realise the appetite isn’t there. Are they trying to generate it? Was this embarrassement?

ArriettyJones · 18/05/2020 19:04

That seems fair, TBH.

True, and that was a nice outfit with a really cute hat. Lovely photo all round. Actually though there have been so few pictures of him released that it's hard to judge the appetite for copying his outfits. I don't have DC that age anymore so I'm not the best judge.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/05/2020 19:07

Wasn't he wearing a Boden coat that quickly sold out? Not surprised, he did look adorable!

ButteryPuffin · 18/05/2020 19:10

They keep using the terms "humanitarians". For a start, that's really a moniker for others to give, when we believe an individual has made significant contributions to humanity that can't be denied.

Very good point. It is presumptuous. Does Bill Gates describe himself as a humanitarian now (he's certainly earned the title). I don't think Mother Theresa did..

Really interesting perspective @Womanlywiles, thanks for that. And stay safe - I am one of the optimists about a vaccine, so let's hope that it can be found and distributed quickly.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 18/05/2020 19:14

Very astute post, Womanly. They both seem seriously deluded.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 18/05/2020 19:16

I think they honestly thought they could be the Champagne Charlies of the royal family and still be hailed as the new Brangelina.

BarleylemonPenguin · 18/05/2020 19:18

If anyone in this mess is modelling multiple scenarios it will be the grey men

Let's hope that it is the grey men and not Professor Pantsdown doing the modelling. Otherwise, we are in for another few million with these two clowns.

ButteryPuffin · 18/05/2020 19:29

The 'grey men' seem to be observing Napoleon's maxim of 'never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake'.

Womanlywiles · 18/05/2020 19:55

The RF' s advisors and Joe Biden's are both using the same strategy ButteryPuffin in that respect, well observed.

It's sad really because of course the RF were trying to keep them on board and would in no way want to bring about this kind of unwelcome drama. H & M just didn't appreciate that the RF are playing the long game. Royalty is the opposite of Instagram culture.

Womanlywiles · 18/05/2020 19:57

P.s.ButteryPuffin thanks for your good wishes. I am looking to the UK re a vaccine after the announcement yesterday that they are hoping to have one ready by September with 30 million doses ready to go.

Mamamia456 · 18/05/2020 20:00

ButteryPuffin - Yes, I see what you mean. They seem to use single quotation marks for everything though and use them an awful lot, in all their articles not just Harry and Meghan's ones. So we don't know what's true and what isn't I expect.

There's an interesting article on the other thread about a woman who sued the DM for an article they printed about her. It's quite shocking to see how they twisted what she actually said. I too have been misquoted by a newspaper in the past, so I generally take what they print with a very large pinch of salt.

RosesandIris · 18/05/2020 20:08

Brilliant! I'm going to remember that one.

I always appreciated Joanne Rowling having Harry Potter taken down by the equivalent of the Wizarding World's tabloids. It was a creative way to help kids become more critical thinkers when it comes to media, and especially the unique savagery of the British tabloids.

Meghan was right about the American tabloids they are just not the equivalent of the British in terms of their influence. Before COVID millions of Brits were still reading a tabloid on a daily basis. Most tabloids here are weekly mag with a very low readership as a % of the nation. The New York Daily news might be one newspaper but that's clearly very regional.

Social media is the new scourge though.

TimeLady · 18/05/2020 20:09

Thank you for that perspective, Womanlywiles. Really interesting.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/05/2020 20:19

I'm cautious when reading DM articles about H&M, there's a lot of speculation dressed up as fact.

Fortunately there is plenty of first hand evidence, tv interviews, video appearances, Instagram posts, all of which paint a pretty clear picture.
