New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

I thought he seemed a bit self conscious and generally less confident than he usually is.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 12:43

Puzzled
I think he was reading from script rather than scared to look at the camera. Who knows. I would have thought considering Meghan’s background, she would have given him some pointers to engage the audience better.

Thanks for the new thread. Poor Fergie was never going to compare to Diana in the glamour stakes. And for that the press crucified her.

But yes she’s never said a word against the queen.

FannyCann · 10/05/2020 13:18

I don't have much sympathy for Fergie, I'm with RosesandIris there.
There's no problems she has had that weren't entirely of her own making.
How hard could it have been, really, apart from being married to Andrew to be a dutiful naval wife while he was at sea? Do a few low key royal gigs, get involved with naval wives stuff etc, be horsey, enjoy living in her mansion and being a mother to her small children, avoid conspicuous consumption, dress conservatively so the press aren't interested in your fashion sense or lack of. None of the responsibilities that Diana had, and she was older when she went into it, not like Diana, barely out of school.
Lots of aristocratic wives over the years have managed to have fun on the quiet, with a bit of discretion - Camilla for one until the press caught up with her.

Also for some reason I watched their engagement interview recently. It's painful to watch. They bonded over a food fight....Hmm

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/05/2020 13:42

The Fergie/Andy engagement interview was excruciating, they didn't have the usual formal Q and A interview but were filmed "larking about". Terribly awkward for the viewer.

I wasn't a great fan of SF at the time but I think she is a decent if uncomplicated soul. And I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the daughters that she and PA brought up.

@TimeLady I don't think Bea's wedding hat was attention seeking, it was a (admittedly horrible) creation from a world class milliner. The rest of her outfit was lovely actually. (Eug not so much). She was a great sport about the ridicule it attracted and auctioned it for charity.

Mumsnut · 10/05/2020 13:43

Nothing Fergie did seemed premeditated. She just galumphed about putting her foot in it

Everything Meghan does seems premeditated, which is perhaps why she seems less likeable ?

BarleylemonPenguin · 10/05/2020 13:46

I have two categories for royals that explain public perception of them. Comparing Fergie and M, Fergie wanted to keep the system while plundering it; M wanted to change the system while plundering it. Diana falls in M's camp (I think. Possibly, she straddles) and so does Harry (possibly a straddler). Everyone else most definitely in Fergie's camp. I don't know why nobody explained to M and even H that it takes a great deal more to overturn a system than what they had in mind. I wonder if H's most recent demeanor is an indication of this realisation?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/05/2020 13:48

I think he was reading from script rather than scared to look at the camera

Initially I wondered about that myself, but he's not looking down far enough for a written script - and if it was a teleprompter, presumably it'd have been set up to give a direct eyeline to the camera

After all they manage it for everyone else ...

ButteryPuffin · 10/05/2020 14:05

she’s never said a word against the queen

Yes, for all Fergie's other misdemeanours, she has maintained loyalty to the Queen and not taken any opportunity when asked about it to complain or cry about being frozen out. Nor do I remember seeing any of her 'friends' giving interviews to newspapers or magazines about how terrible it's been for her.

derxa · 10/05/2020 14:09

She just galumphed about putting her foot in it Grin That's her to a tee. Her best quality is loyalty. Even after her mother ran off with Hector Barrantes she stayed loyal.

GlorianaCervixia · 10/05/2020 14:09

I agree, Mumsnut, Fergie does galumph around making messes for her self, particularly all her schemes to make money. She often comes out looking foolish but somewhat relatable.

Meghan and Harry don’t seem like they would ever admit to making mistakes, as Fergie has often done. For all her faults, she’s always made sure her daughters had close relationships with their grandparents even when it meant they went to Balmoral every Christmas and she stayed stayed nearby but apart from them. It can’t have been easy.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 10/05/2020 14:20

That’s the word I was looking for earlier about Meghan ‘premeditated’. Perfect word to describe her. Fergie is the complete opposite - bumbling is how I’d view her. Whoever said about her being loyal - she’s always stuck by Andrew for some reason.

AnotherBoredOne · 10/05/2020 14:26

What do you think will happen with PA and Fergie?

RosesandIris · 10/05/2020 14:27

‘arrange their days’

Is this for Andrew and Sarah? They don't do anything with their days! They're both unemployed!

RosesandIris · 10/05/2020 14:28

Ah, I see it's H and M. I wonder how long this one will last?

OP posts:
RosesandIris · 10/05/2020 14:33

I've just watched the whole video and Harry appears to be reading off an autocue below his eyeline. He definitely looks like he's had his hair colour changed a bit, a different hairstyle and waxed eyebrows. He seems muted and disengaged to me.

H&M seem to be racking up quite a lot of staff.

Serenster · 10/05/2020 15:28

Regarding Beatrix's ludicrous hat at William and Kate's wedding, I felt really sorry for her. She had picked out a truly lovely Valentino dress coat, and Phillip Treacy (who was creating hats for a lot of the family guests) apparently told her he'd create the most divine hat just for her to wear with it. And then presented her with that frightful festooned "O". It probably would have taken someone older and far more confident than Beatrix to say "Thanks but no thanks" and wear something else! Her sister's Vivienne Westwood's outfit though - that's a genuine what was she thinking.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 15:37

I didn’t like either outfit - Béatrice or Eugenie. Very unfortunately for them, they looked like they were dresses in clothes the ugly sisters would wear. The hat wasn’t the only ott one that day. Maybe the worst. Hats on the forehead seemed to be in vogue at the time...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/05/2020 15:40

for all Fergie's other misdemeanours, she has maintained loyalty to the Queen and not taken any opportunity when asked about it to complain or cry about being frozen out

That's very true, and FWIW the scapegoating of Fergie made me irritable even at the time. Nobody denies she's been a fool, but what she's done pales into insignificance against the paedophile sympathies of her exH and exBIL, to say nothing of the judgement calls made by some others

Then again she's not "blood family" of course, so can be cast aside with little thought

WinnieTheW0rm · 10/05/2020 15:53

I couldn't work out why Harry pooped up with a video when he did, but then remembered it was the day the Invictus Games would have started if COVID hadn't halted everything.

It's a far less polished production than Meghan's video. I think that's a pity - I mean they had the kit to frame and light it better, and as he didn't have a baby to wrangle, he could have had a couple of practice runs. Because about half way through I found it really intrusive that he was looking down the whole time, and surely there were better backgrounds than all that blank wall?

But still glad to see it, despite that

WinnieTheW0rm · 10/05/2020 15:54

*popped !!

CadburysTastesVileNow · 10/05/2020 16:06

Beatrice sold her hat on eBay for £80k and gave the money to charity - that's the Fergie side coming out I reckon - might fuck up now and then but game for a laugh

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 10/05/2020 16:08

She turned the awful hat into a plus I think. I blamed the designer tbh. What was he thinking?
