No surprise there, then.

Do we think he'll hold out for the threatened subpoena or will the renewed public spotlight mean he jumps before he's pushed?

'But ... if he papers can't be served if he is with the Queen, could he just not travel back with her?'

I thought that weird law stated people just couldn't be arrested when in the Queen's presence surely civil papers can be served?

Roussette · 21/08/2021 16:40

I don't believe so Janiie but if anyone knows more, happy to hear!

As I understand it, he cant be served papers when in the Queen's presence or in a royal Palace.

I dug something up and posted it on one of these threads Smile

Yes he does . Most of the RF do . I think the Wessex family are currently there and the Cambridges will visit as will Sarah Chatto Charles and Camilla stay at Birkhall which is quite near.

Agree Cacacoisfarraige . Some people think he has scurried to Balmoral as a one off when he visits ever year . HM will be there until October so realistically he can stay there until then . As this is HM’s first holiday without PP she may want the company .
I am not defending PA in any way just stating what usually happens.

metro.co.uk/2021/08/14/prince-andrew-will-be-served-sex-assault-court-papers-in-person-15090613/

This says they are waiting for papers to be checked to ensure they adhere to Hague convention rules. If they couldn't be served if in a royal residence surely it would have been mentioned.

OverByYer · 21/08/2021 18:06

Maybe that why they were trying to get him when he was out riding in great Windsor park?

Roussette · 21/08/2021 18:22

So it’s hardly the big drama some are implying that he’s there

No, of course not! I know he goes every year, although have to say, it's unusual that Sarah is there too. (I think)

Not a drama. It's just he was driven there as opposed to flown, and it's all about the US justices wanting to serve papers on him. But certainly no drama.

Not lost anything here lol, I'm just a bit intrigued at how he's going to leave eventually

Roussette · 21/08/2021 18:24

Some people think he has scurried to Balmoral as a one off when he visits ever year

Nope! Don't think that, never have thought that!

Oldbutstillgotit · 21/08/2021 18:36

Maybe not you Roussette but some definitely do .
Sarah normally stays in a lodge on the estate as PP banned her from the castle .

Roussette · 21/08/2021 18:38

Ahhh yes Oldbuststillgotit get that now. A very different year for them all, in all sorts of ways

SueSaid · 21/08/2021 19:32

@OverByYer

I don't think they need to try to get him, as I said earlier the papers have to be checked before they can be served. If they couldn't be served when he was in a royal residence the media would rightly cause a massive hoo ha about it.
CathyorClaire · 21/08/2021 20:35

They've already said trying to serve the papers is going to be tricky but he's now in a royal residence which will have a 24/7 security presence (one that's ramped up further with the queen there too) so they're not going to be strolling up to the front door.

They'd have had a much better chance at Windsor. I think he'll follow the same policy of ignoring it all and hope not getting served means they'll have to start from scratch later in the year.

That strategy assumes there won't be any curve-balls from the Maxwell trial though...

How does service work in the US? Here you can prove good service if you post papers to last known address. No need for hand delivery.

KidneyBeans · 22/08/2021 09:28

'the Sovereign today still retains an important symbolic role as the figure in whose name justice is carried out, and law and order is maintained.'

Yet apparently has no interest in cooperating with legal proceedings when there's a personal risk.

Looks like favouritism for her child is much more powerful than her royal duty

I find some of the speculation here akin to the Queen harbouring a fugitive and denying justice rather odd

It might be even more odd if she didn't have previous for meddling in the justice system when it suits ... Paul Burrell anyone?

SueSaid · 22/08/2021 13:05

'They've already said trying to serve the papers is going to be tricky but he's now in a royal residence which will have a 24/7 security presence'

Tricky. I am sure many privileged people don't open their own front doors and also have 24/7 security 🙄.

SueSaid · 22/08/2021 13:09

@Cacacoisfarraige

I find some of the speculation here akin to the Queen harbouring a fugitive and denying justice rather odd.

On the other hand every time I look at this thread music of the scarlet pimpernel gets in my head - they seek him here, they seek him there …..

Yes 'HMTQ The Fugitive Harbourer!!'. One for Netflix perhaps, those authentic truth tellers who don't make shit up at all, with Oprah's booming voice over person doing the promos obvs.
PensionsYes · 22/08/2021 13:21

I think the Queen has misjudged this completely.

Also - I wouldn’t want PA anywhere near my children on a family holiday, or anywhere else.

At least whilst he’s hiding with his Mum - he can’t be personally inflicting more damage to trafficked young people. (So easily?

) I’m guessing he could stay with Mum until she dies. Prince Charles is hardly likely to invite PA to live with him & Camilla, is he? It’s a matter of timing, perhaps?

Viviennemary · 22/08/2021 13:31

Im not a Harry fan but Harry has been stripped of his military titles because he has quit royal duties. Andrew has quit royal duties but is keeping his. Something wrong here.

Oldbutstillgotit · 22/08/2021 13:35

I agree however Andrew has only stepped back from Royal duties and it keeps getting leaked that he is keen to return ( doubt he ever will especially if Charles and William have their way ) whereas Harry has quit .

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/08/2021 13:41

At least whilst he’s hiding with his Mum - he can’t be personally inflicting more damage to trafficked young people. (So easily?)

TBF we don't know that he has damaged any trafficked young people, but as I said before the RF depend hugely on how things look, and I can't imagine anyone but the most staunch monarchist thinking this looks good

And yes, of course he's been to Balmoral in previous summers, but that doesn't necessarily preclude this year's visit serving a different purpose

What I'd love to know (but obviously can't) is whether the Queen really thinks all the messes he's made amount to "nasty, common oiks out to get him", or whether she just might wonder about his judgement and real character
