Harry and Meghan resigning Act 4: the Price of Freedom.....?

So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

astral "Sorry for tardy responses. Playing catch up."

no need to apologise. We're not royalty Grin

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 14/01/2020 12:00

The is no abdication as although he is royal he is not on the throne and had a very very slim chance that he ever would have been and every time William had another child that chance got slimmer.

He is just resigning from his job as a working royal. He was a senior working royal but even the pleasant but a bit dim younger brother could see his dads plan to slim back the monarch so he has jumped ship before he was slid-lined even more.

fallen121 · 14/01/2020 12:01

@Fraggot

How do we know it's H&M's team that have registered the new website? GoDaddy lets you hide ownership. So it could be anyone.

Does this imply they have lost their titles?

AutumnRose1 · 14/01/2020 12:01

that website looks very unlikely to be theirs, unless it's just been grabbed so no one else can.

karencantobe · 14/01/2020 12:02

@NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite I don't see paying some money towards a wedding of your son and helping him refurbish his home if you are rich, as some amazing act of generosity that you obviously do.

The RF may have welcome Meghan or they may have been unfriendly towards her, we don't know. Spending money does not tell us that.

What we do know is that the RF did not welcome Diana in to the family and made things more difficult for her as a new bride than it needed to be. Maybe they have changed their ways, maybe they haven't.

hiphiphoorayback · 14/01/2020 12:03

I think this is all cooked up by the Palace to divert attention from Prince Andrew which was threatening the Monarchy. It has worked a treat!

fallen121 · 14/01/2020 12:05

harryandmeghan.shop is available

so is sussex-royal.com

Should I?

Dozer · 14/01/2020 12:05

Nah, there will still be scrutiny re. Andrew. More, if anything.

MyuMe

I always knew there was nothing in her head but herself.*

That was always my feeling, too. There was more than enough evidence right from the start. Some ignored it of course and wrongly accused any of her detractors of racism.

Alsohuman · 14/01/2020 12:05

Did she ever want to be a duchess? I suspect she had her eye on being a princess like Princess Michael. To be honest I don’t understand why Kate isn’t Princess William and Meghan Princess Henry.

She reminds me of Princess Michael, whose husband always looks thoroughly miserable.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff.

Thought the same. Loss of respect all round but guess its the norm for some and it will be defended as entrepreneurial or some such guff.

Is this what Ohanian (spelling ?) husband of Serena Williams was getting at? Whatever his intentions I read it that way.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/01/2020 12:07

Eugenie: do feel sorry for her as not only did she have to delay her own engagement and marriage to make way for Harry as he was the more senior royal. Harry and MM also stolen their venue. Then to top it off they choose to announce their pregnancy at the wedding.

You have got to be a bit of an arse to think someone else’s wedding is a good time to announce a pregnancy.

Agreed re: the shafting of Eugenie. That was really shit showing up with her coat half buttoned to trigger speculation at Eugenie’s wedding

Eugenie may well get the last laugh and be offered more engagements to take up the slack left by H&M. ( I don’t think she should be punished for the misdemeanours of her father.) she was charming and confident at her wedding. I’m sure she’d happily do the «boring stuff» the Sussexes have shunned.

A Royal Duke is a more prestigious title than a «mere» Prince.
In the Kent branch of the RF; HRH the Duke of Kent is the older brother, and Prince Michael is the younger.

I don't see why they can't fund their own security but I absolutely get that they want to leave. They could buy a ranch or something couldn't they - somewhere really private etc.

Again she doesn’t want privacy. She wants to be a global public figure on her terms.

notmoresheep · 14/01/2020 12:12

sausage couldn’t resist.

I genuinely don’t dislike them, despite my posts. But all this, with Brexit going on and so many people struggling, their timing of announcements to steal thunder at other special family events, complete lack of consideration for very elderly Queen who has served the nation her whole life and doesn’t deserve this circus, and how calculated and planned they’ve been, they just seem to be completely oblivious at best and selfish, self-centred, talentless chancers at worst. The Obamas they are not.

So many people were so happy for them and delighted to see them, they were bestowed with a unique position to do so much good (like his mother) but they’ve barely given it chance before deciding its not good enough. Yes he lost his mother at a young age but that happens to a lot of people who have to get on with their lives without everyone making allowances for that as adults.

Is anything ever going to be good enough for these two?

notmoresheep · 14/01/2020 12:13

why not Mr & Mrs Dumbarton, sausage

willothewispa · 14/01/2020 12:14

to be honest I don’t understand why Kate isn’t Princess William and Meghan Princess Henry.

Aside from the title issue, because they are not William and Henry and this is not the dark ages

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/01/2020 12:14

Don't understand the love for Doria. So she behaved appropriately at the wedding and hasn't sold stories. Isn't that the bare minimum any of us expect?

^ this.

Nothing against the woman but let's not get carried away. She looked nice at the wedding and she's kept a low profile. She's not Mother Theresa.

AJPTaylor · 14/01/2020 12:16

For the love of god.
He is Prince Charles much loved son and indeed the Queens much loved grandchild.
As they are worth a billion quid between them I think they will cope.

Alsohuman · 14/01/2020 12:17

Aside from the title issue, because they are not William and Henry and this is not the dark ages

Tell that to Princess Michael. The point I was trying to make is that Princess sounds much more royal than duchess. I’m sure Meghan would have lapped it up.

astralweaks · 14/01/2020 12:20

It seems H&M have a knack of spoiling others' special occasions with their news. (Announcing pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding, announcing leaving full time royals work day before Kate's birthday and delaying the announcement of Beatrice's wedding date and details). It's just uncanny.

It can’t be coincidental, that’s for sure. Perhaps spiteful, though...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/01/2020 12:21

The two of them having nothing to say beyond dishing dirt

And that's exactly why the RF's money will keep coming their way. With Charles's kingship coming closer by the day, does anyone imagine he'll risk more exposures about the family and yet more awful publicity?

Not that he can prevent it in the end; he might just have some minimal influence over Harry, but he'll be able to do nothing whatsoever to control his wife ... especially if she isn't Harry's wife any more

BiarritzCrackers · 14/01/2020 12:22

I see the balcony video differently - my interpretation is that she's trying to cover that she was doing the wrong thing, and composing her 'serious' face as the anthem strikes up.

However the Disney video is awful, and they must have prepared that he was going to do that after she had moved on to Beyonce. It would have been more acceptable if it had been part of a longer conversation, but in a Royal line-up where you talk for just a minute or so, just cringe. There was another video I saw last night where H&M are next to (I think) Damian Hinds at some event - Harry is in conversation, and then she moves in front of him, interrupts so she can introduce herself, and carries on talking with Harry now blocked behind her - it looked pretty bad. And I'm someone who thinks she is often given an unnecessarily hard time.
