I read today on Twitter, "Every time I hear the words 'The Royal Wedding' I am going to replace them in my head with 'imminent lizard invasion'"

Hell no, but it will be difficult to avoid, what with the street party and the school party.

I, and some friends, are avoiding by renting a cottage in Dorset and keeping our heads down!

Can't be doing with it at all.

DP will be in St Andrews and may or may not be on telly so I am reluctantly going to be spectating, but up until last week I didn't know the date and assumed it was in June sometime...

I shall be taking DS to the beach, with what they call a 'tupperwear dinner' (aka a picnic cos we're posh lol) tbh for me it's 4 days off work to spend quality time with the wee man. bad but good as well we need quality time.

I'm going to shop. Should be nice and quiet (I hope!)

Phew! Glad to see all these friendly posts! I don't begrudge them their joy or nuffink; I just completely disagree with the concept of monarchy so have no intention of waving my jolly flag for a couple of strangers just because one of them was born into an 'elevated' position which happens to be an utterly meaningless social construction (and breeeeathe! ).

The wedding has achieved one interesting thing, IMO. So many more people appear to be showing pro-monarchism colours than I had expected. Guess the revolution's a long way off, then .

I don't do the whole monarchy thing or care. It may as well be happening on Betelgeuse. It just doesn't register to most people here. It's just a big swerve, like something that's happening a million miles away. Whatever.

The ILs are coming through from Edinburgh so we will go to Kintyre for the day and hopefully find some good sea glass on the beach and have a nice picnic.

I'll be in California. It'll be about 3am. So, er, probably not doing much.

Hopefully DH and I will get away to France for the day and avoid the whole thing. I'm bored witless with it already, if Kate and William had any compassion for the British public they'd elope and spare us any more of this inane sentiment .

We will be having a humungous party at home on the evening of the 29th! Sooo kind of Dave to propose a national holiday for DD1's birthday dontcha know!

I don't know, it's just not really more than a blip on the map through here.

I don't know anyone but one person in the US who's noticing it, other than 'Oh, it's on the news and it's not Congress fighting with Obama, another shooting or something getting blown up.' It's like a little fluff around around everything else and there's always that.

But they all have to go to work there.

You don't get many holidays, a fortnight/annum if you are lucky! The president could drop off and they'd expect everyone to do their minute of silence and go back to work. Your dad could drop off and you'd be expected to be back at work sharpish.

I don't think it's anything to do with English or that, most English people who are around here that I know don't care, either.

Meh.

We'll hopefully have a nice picnic.

I certainly won't be celebrating, and am in a bit of a quandary - got an email from DD's nursery saying 'we will be having a royal wedding themed week' - what the hell do I do? Do I say something, pretend she's ill or just grin and bear it and accidentally 'lose' whatever shite memorabilia they make and brainwash talk to my DD about why mam doesn't agree with it (she is only four . FFS a day is bad enough but a whole week!!

I don't have a problem with them at all, but all those bank holidays are just too big an excuse, so we're off to Spain instead. My sincerest thanks to the William and Kate for their assistance in my travel plans.

I am not celebrating either. I couldn't give a flying fig about it. But I will take the extra days holiday, thank you very much
I work in a nursery and the management have planned a royal wedding picnic for the day before but I am secretly hoping it rains [bit mean, but the children haven't got a clue, have they?]
oh and we can wear red , white and blue, apparently

wrt the Royal Wedding, I couldn't care less about the actual event but I have led the organisation of a street party for just two reasons:

1. What a lovely chance to get the community together and help neighbours get to know each other

and more importantly

1. I'm a complete control freak and love organising things so when the idea was mooted no one could hold me back from filling in application forms to the Council and forming a committee
