I too am planning a trip to the zoo and alternatively if it rains - the aquarium. I am hoping they will be quieter than usual. I dont give a flying fig about some wedding!

I like the way some of those joining in with street parties etc. seem to be doing so in a rather post-modern, post-monarchy style, eg. someone posted on another thread that women at their bash were wearing "tea-dresses" and red lipstick ! Lots of bunting and jelly and ice-cream too. I suppose the end of the war celebrations were the height of the street party days !

Agree with tidybush that it's a great excuse to get people together.

I feel a bit ambiguous about the whole thing really but in any case, we have two teenagers slap bang in the middle of revision for exams looming large on the horizon so we won't be going anywhere.

We're going on a day trip to France (£23 return for whole family + car if anyone wants to join us!). I don't trust myself not to spend the day watching the wedding on tv if I stay at home. And as a republican, I can't allow that to happen.

It's my DS2's birthday, so the right regal couple are particularly selfish IMO.

Am I the only one who thinks that Kate (and perhaps Will) must think it weird that supermarkets and such are making money off her wedding? I mean, what a bizarre concept - a bunch of complete strangers at Tesco going 'Ooh, someone's getting hitched and it has absolutely nothing to do with us whatsoever. Let's make a bob or two off of it.'

Thankfully when you do online supermarket shopping you can usually avoid that crap with a single button click.

And AIBU as a dedicated organic meat buyer to refuse to buy the only organic bacon option because it was from...Duchy?

Speedy what I find even more bizarre is that some of my friends seem more excited about this wedding than the past weddings of close friends!!

One of my friends (who is usually sane) has arranged a huge street party down her road. I politely declined our invitation. When I aksed her just 'WHY?' (I think that was enough) she couldn't tell me. And I know she is going to phone me afterwards and want to discuss the dress!!

kitty, sweet to have a baby that day. I know someone who was born at home during extra time in the 1966 World Cup, with both midwives and father watching the tv. And another who was born, after a very,very long labour on the day that Diana died. They emerged out of the delivery suite to find that they were the last people in the world to know. If you keep the 'birthday' newspaper they will be memorable.

I feel very uncomfortable about supermarkets making money out of this. Very distasteful some of it. I don't mind mugs or stationary. But get your photo taken with Will and your face inserted instead of Kate's, pictures of K+W plastered all over the Lidl Offers flyer, that kind of thing. I'm not for deference, but ffs, would you like random stranger photoshopping their head onto your fiance's shoulders in an engagement photo? Or using your image to flog this week's offers on bras? Smacks too much of the way the Media used Diana for their own ends (and yes I know she courted them, too, let's not get into that).

I am totally indifferent about the wedding, otherwise.
