Anyone not planning to celebrate The Wedding?

I just don't do the whole monarchy thing, y'know.

Anyone else?

We are 'doing' the wedding for dc's and their friends (they want to dress up as princesses).

The adults will be in the kitchen waving red flags of revolution and listening to The Sex Pistols.

I'm self employed and work on Fridays, the bank holiday costing me a days work. Feckers.

I am going to watch it because my republican parents deliberately booked foreign holidays for Diana and Fergie. Glad to see so much indifference, though. The only people who seem to be deferential are people who have some hope of meeting them, eg, dh's boss pays a fortune to shoot at Gatscombe Park, because there is always a hope that Princess Anne might bring out the sandwiches, or my Gran who met PA a few times thanks to the number of squares she knitted and 'flags' she sold for Save the Children. PA is head of some regiment and after she left the regimental dinner, she left some of her coke in her glass. The officers passed her glass round the table and they all took a sacred sip. Sheeeesh.

We're avoiding by going camping with some friends who also wish to avoid it. In fact I'm not sure who actually is interested in it (beyond the tourists) and tourism industry? Anyone know?

We don't watch TV anyway, so even if we stay at home wouldn't be tempted. Luckily DD is only 2 so has no idea about any of this rubbish yet.

Very thankful for another day off work though at 6 months pregnant any excuse not to go to work is very welcome!

(Somewhat baffled as to why anyone would want to drink someone's leftovers though mate - ugh!)

Why would I want to celebrate the wedding of two people I don't know?

We are celebrating the bank holiday and will go out for the day if weather is decent. No interest whatsoever in royal weddings.
No street parties, as far as I know, in my large village, either.

I have a big picture of KM in her see-through dress on the bathroom wall, because I fear that dh is susceptible to monarchy worship Blush. The fact that he sees our future Queen in her underwear every time he defecates is part of his therapy.

Hooray for the wedding if it brings in tourist pounds and cheers up the British masses but that's about it really for me. It is of no interest to me or anyone I know.

The shops are open on 29th and they're calling my name!

I really do wish them well and I am delighted William has chosen for himself, but am not bothered about watching the pomp and circumstance. If I wantch the iconic balcony scene, I will only think of the sham that was Charles and Di. I am sorry to William and Kate for that.

We can't close the road because we live in a tourist area but most of us have an extra day off work, so we are having a beach party starting at two, assuming the weather is nice. We will all take our own food and drink, so no organising for anyone. Hopefully be a nice get together for families and children. Not specifically to celebrate the RW but to enjoy time together, thanks to the RW.

I saw on the lunchtime news that EDF and MAC (Muslims Against Crusades) have both applied for permission to rally/march in London on that day.

I can't imagine it'd be remotely possible to police another event, so expect they'll be told no, and possibly invited to resubmit for a different date.

I hope neither of those events were in anyone's plans

It just doesn't seem to have registered here (apart from the day off) - live in Glasgow.

We were in England last week on holiday and it was everywhere - bunting, celeb magazine special editions etc .... You hit Berwick and it all vanishes again!

So we're making the most of the weekend, depending on weather, by camping.

I will be spending 3 hours in a car to Glasgow which should manage t avoid the whole thing - to attend a ruby wedding anniversary, which is far more important to me than 2 people I have never met. I am also getting a facial and manicure in the morning so should well and truely miss it. And my radio only gets signal for 1/3 of the journey so won't have to put up with the running commentary of what kind of suit David Cameron has decided to wear etc.

I would just like to thank expatinscotland for advocating holidays in Kintyre - certainly helps our tourism more than the RW Grin

minicorrect: you might be interested that the British Tourist Board reckon the month/year before and after Royal Weddings have LESS tourists here. This time more people are leaving for hols (taking advantage of BH's) than coming here.

I think the year after this wedding might have more!

Eurostar say bookings for Easter/RW arrivals up 10%. So some bits doing well already.

Ceramics manufacturers having HUGE boom (as might tea-towel weavers).

Ah, Kintrye. The weather is supposed to be grand. Nothing beats a lovely day in Kintyre. Think we're going to spend the night - MIL rang and left a message. Even better.

Barring that, was going to take the bus to Bute for no reason at all but to be on a bus whilst it's all on.

Doesn't seem to have registered here, either.

We are off to a (hopefully quiet) theme park. We are avoiding the TV as much as possible that day.

Matekid, that is disgusting. What bloody morons.

Though when you said Princess Anne left some coke in a glass, for a nanosecond I thought you meant the other sort of coke! Grin

At DD's nursery today, there was a massive display with tea towels and flags featuring a gurning KM and WW.

DD to me: "Who are these people mummy?"
Me: "Rich people darling. Now get your coat and bag off your peg..."

I do know three people who are going to line the streets. They are all Americans. One has flown over from the US specially.
