I have been busy with lots of music related stuff recently. DD did a concert at RAM with her clarinet quartet which was brilliant.
Then she and I are doing a concert this week in Glastonbury (not exactly 'playing Glastonbury' but as near as we're likely to get).

Herbie was a lapcat half an hour ago!! First time he's actually fully settled on my lap. It may have had something to do with the coffee with cream which I was drinking at the time because he got off when I'd finished it!
Oh well, it's a start.

Congrats to your daughter 👍. Our next musical outing is seeing DS1's GF performing in Dido and Aeneas (only in the chorus on this occasion) on the Cutty Sark in a few weeks time. No idea how it will be staged - but should be good.

HumanToCatBeasties · 10/05/2026 13:46

I'm finding it quite heartwarming that model railway enthusiasts (which, while I don't usually like to stereotype, I assume are mostly middle aged men) are also so enthusiastic about their cats.

When I started reading the post under Grumpy's and saw it was about a cat named Gizmo I did wonder if Broon was also into model railways, but it seems that Gizmo must be a more common name for cats than I'd have expected.

As stereotypes go I'd say it's a pretty accurate one 👍.

Quick picture because she is lovely and flexing her little furry feet when I stroke her

@Breadcat24she is gorgeous.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/05/2026 14:53

Micia really is an exceptionally pretty cat. 😻

That site seems to love cats as much as these threads, I find that surprisingly comforting!

Yes - I know very little about model railways but would 100% join for the cat chat 🚂 🐈‍⬛ 😂

The Dido and Aeneas looks amazing - sadly I have another engagement that evening or I'd definitely go.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats I am utterly charmed that J.S. Bach has replied enthusiastically to your posts. A thread with Bach, cats and trains - what more could one ask for??

Let's all join and hassle Grumpy.

Mind you, we can do that on here........

I absolutely love Dido and Aeneas.
I studied it for A-level music about a hundred years ago.

So do I. Dido's lament - one of the most glorious arias ever written.

I have a friend at work who's not retired yet - despite being 73! There's a few others around in their late 60's as well. On the other hand one of out team managers is retiring at just under 60 next month.

Retirement does NOT equal age. Money being as it is, I probably won't be able to afford to retire until I'm in my 70's, not if I want to keep having 2 high maintenance cats anyway.

My theory is I must 'only' be middle aged if I haven't retired yet. 🤣

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/05/2026 20:59

Having thought about it...
While there are clearly exceptions to the sterotype - I'll admit that the typical model railway person is a middle aged man or an old git 🤣

TBF the majority of men are gits.

Present company excepted.

My views may be highly coloured on this subject

Wait til the locos are running then it will be fun and games 😄

RumNotRun · 11/05/2026 20:12

The treadmill has arrived. Toad, Raven, and Fred are all very interested. Toad sat in it for a while. He did stretch and make it move which seemed to intrigue him but he hasn't yet run on it. Fred started to get in, it moved, he ran away, but he's been exploring it since. Raven has got in it and sniffed around but not used it yet.

I've bought a cat safe laser pen to see if that gets them to willingly move on it, but at least there's interest. It's a good start!

EmpressaurusKitty · 11/05/2026 21:02

Yes, sounds like a very good start! Hopefully if one of them gets it working the others will want to have a go too.

RumNotRun · 11/05/2026 21:53

If anyone other than Toad uses it, he'll definitely be straight on it. I don't know if he's jealous and wants everything everyone else has, or if he just wants to be with the other cats. Example one, the window nest 😁

JoanOgden · 11/05/2026 21:59

That treadmill looks great, Rum! Does it have an option to feed into your mains electricity - then the tribe really would be working for their dinner Grin

Pianoaholic · 11/05/2026 22:07

Herbie needs a treadmill for his (non existent) fitness regime.
He would probably just fall asleep on it though!
