That looks like ToddlerTea's parents cat!

Sorry am behind on the chat, I am not enjoying this weather one bit. I moved to England because of it's lovely cool and wet weather. This is not what I was sold England was when I was a child! 😂

When I was a child, 18 degrees was considered hot!

I hope Boone’s feeling ok today, @LostCats2.

Today is the second anniversary of Kitty & Son of Kitty moving in with me as foster cats. Kitty’s relaxed a lot since.

Must admit Gizmo looks a bit lush in that pic. Then again, I'd be tempted to give that lovely floofy belly a stroke, which wouldn't end well!

I'll stick with my 2 - Girlcat adores belly strokes (un-natural creature that she is); she wraps her legs round my arm to ensure I don't stop.

Defiantly41 · 28/05/2026 07:51

@EmpressaurusKitty, Kitty certainly has chilled out since that first pic!

@lostcats,hope Boone is OK, I’ve been worried about Miss B the past few days as she had barely eaten anything and at 2.4kg has no weight she can afford to lose. However, last night when the temperature dropped a little, she ate a whole portion of one of the fancy little round dish Sheba’s, and a bit more of a plainer one overnight too, so I’m hoping it was just the heat.

Here she is enjoying some early morning sunshine

I hope Miss B keeps her appetite now she’s got it back, @Defiantly41.

Best wishes to all the excellent cats who aren't feeling great - hope the cooler weather (due soon🤞🏻) improves their lives.

And Happy Anniversary to Kitty and @EmpressaurusKitty - it was meant to be 😻

YelramBob · 28/05/2026 16:32

Hope all your poor kitties are coping with the heatwave, it's cooler in Cyprus at the moment!

The first summer I had Kloppy, he was still young and insisted on tearing around like a loon. One afternoon I came home and found him panting like a dog 🙀 I rang the vet in a panic, he said 'Eh, stick him under the air conditioning for 20 minutes and he'll be fine'. Right enough, he made a miraculous recovery 🙄

Allergictoironing · 28/05/2026 19:16

After the rather nice respite of "only" 25 C yesterday, we're back up above 30 here - car was telling me 29 C all the way home after 6pm and cloudy skies so no direct sunlight. At least they seem to have sorted out the air con in the office, or at least in my wing; we kept getting refugees from the other wing making up excuses to come over to our side.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/05/2026 19:36

Once again I apologise for a bit of parental pride but in January I reported that DS1 had got a six month position in the Hanover state Opera as a repetiteur and he hoped that would lead to a full time position. I'm really pleased to report that he went for an audition yesterday and was offered a full time position at an opera house in the South of Germany starting in September. His lovely gf will move out with him (much of her Opera singing is in Europe anyway).
Given all the news about NEETS in the press it is such a relief that he's now properly set up. Now just DS2 to worry about - although he has another year in Estonia so we don't need to panic just yet...
Pictures of hot cats enclosed however to emphasise what is really important 🤣

That’s fabulous, Grumpy. Congratulations to DS1!

RumNotRun · 28/05/2026 20:13

Wow, well done DS1 of @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - that is amazing!!!

Allergictoironing · 28/05/2026 21:07

Congratulations Grumpy's DS1!

Regarding the NEET thing, it may be interesting to have the stats on other age groups like over 60's.

CatsonPollock · 28/05/2026 22:02

Excellent news for your DS1@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

(And I now know what a repetiteur is! 😬)

JoanOgden · 28/05/2026 22:16

Oh that's great news, Grumpy! The Germans have such a civilised approach to supporting music. Is it Bayreuth Grin

(now trying to think of a Wagner/cat joke but can't quite get there)

Bayreuth - sadly not 😁.
Agreed though - there are so many more opportunities for musicians in Germany than in the UK now.
Wagnerian cat attached.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats well done DS!

We had a traumatic night last night as Micia disappeared and turned out to have snuck out of a window (opened by a foolish person) and was loose in the garden. Being black we could not see her but we heard her miaow. Fortunately she came back in.
We were going to let her loose in the garden when she got over being frightened of the click of the microchip cat flap anyway but it was still worrying. Here she is looking chilled

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/05/2026 10:31

Very pleased to hear Micia returned readily. Shows that she knows where home is.
I've said this before - she really is such a pretty cat 😻.

CatsonPollock · 29/05/2026 10:46

Ah! Having only had black cats that we keep in overnight, I know the 'drop in the stomach feeling' of realising that one of them has somehow escaped and the witching hour is approaching so will not come in!
Many moons ago with one of our previous cats (who was very young at the time) I 'slept' on the kitchen floor with the door open waiting for her to come in! Probably wouldn't do that now 😂

So glad Micia knows where home is 🐈‍⬛ 🏡

The 'kittens' have been dirty stop outs a few times recently - I suspect they find the cool night air a bit too tempting at the moment. We encourage the cats to come in at night but we don't lose sleep if they don't.

Madam Raven think it's still very warm and if she wants to air out her undercarriage then how dare I try to shame her. It's also not a trap, she doesn't mind you stroking her floofy tum.

Just been catching up with the thread.

Well done to your DS @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats that is great news. My DD had to do her end of 2nd year recital in 30 degree heat on Thursday which wasn't great. There's no air con at Academy apparently - I would have thought they could afford a few air conditioned rooms at least!

Sorry to hear of poorly cats. I'm sure this heat isn't helping. Today has been a bit better.

Not much to report about Herbie as he's been virtually comatose!! It's more of an effort for me to post pictures via computer than on my phone, but I will try at some point. I still can't access Mumsnet on my phone. And my Kindle is refusing to connect with the wi fi which is really annoying. I actually bought some paperbacks the other day as it has been half term and I needed some new reading material!
