Prison Dramas, Bands and Ouija Boards - the Excellent Cats audition, sing and plot

Our feline overlords have so many current strings to their joint and several bows.

Auditioning for Series One of The Prison Cat, forming a band, and continuing to plot against their enemies by means of their Ouija Boards - will they even have time to sleep now?

They all come in anyway though?

I’m so glad Gizmo’s getting a ladder.

Yes, but I don't mind them all coming in, as long as they're warm.

I've come home several times now to discover Gizmo sitting sadly outside the house. It's getting too cold for this to be a regular thing.

I saw this on the BBC website. Can amyone begin to imagine the chaos if the cats got hold of this technology?

That's so cool. My mum brings up guide dog puppies and she's had one who wasn't suitable for guide dog work, but went on to become an assistance dog for a disabled woman and it's amazing the things he learnt to do.

I know this is a cat thread but dogs are much more productive members of society. Though thanks are due to cats for all the dead mice and rats, even if you could teach them to turn the kettle on for you, they bloody wouldn't!

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/11/2025 12:09

Huge admiration for your mum, @Esgaroth. That’s an amazing thing to do.

Out of curiosity, I googled a while ago to find out what the world would be like without cats. Apparently the rodent population would rocket, leading to massive grain shortages & also declines in seabirds because there would be more rats to eat their eggs.
I read a few different articles, this is one of them. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/wbna46295807

What If All the Cats in the World Suddenly Died?

Perhaps you're a cat lover. Perhaps you abhor the lazy critters. Either way, when you see a cat lounging on an armchair, napping all day but for the occasional stretch or window gaze, "useless" is by no means the last word that comes to mind. Cats, bel...

Thanks for that @EmpressaurusKitty , nice to have a positive spin on cats and their effect on wildlife!

learieonthewildmoor · 20/11/2025 12:58

Cat Fourandhertail would absolutely love a button like that and my appliances would be going on and off non-stop. Terrible idea for people with cats like Four.
It would be good for Cat One as he could turn on the toaster instead of knocking things off the bench when he’s hungry.
My adoration of Gizmo is undying, possibly because he lives Over Your Way, not mine.
Esgaroth: sending you a hard stare for sucking up to dogs and their productivity. They don’t even cover their own poo.
You never see articles saying “What if all the dogs died?” No, everyone likes dogs who can’t even wash themselves.
Here’s Cat Two with the disapproving look she reserves for Rosemary the robot vacuum.

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/11/2025 13:14

I’m not sure whether Kitty would love the idea or disdain it because that’s what she thinks I’m for.

Esgaroth · 20/11/2025 13:27

The history of humans without dogs, cats and horses in particular would be unrecognisable. I think they are all honoured partners of humankind and we owe them a lot! If all the dogs died it would be an absolute disaster.

I also think the bad rap cats get for being amazing predators is silly and people would very soon regret a world where there were no cats out and about to control rodent populations, as Empress says! I've had a mouse infestation (pre-Kettle) and it was horrible.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/11/2025 13:33

...........even if you could teach them to turn the kettle on for you, they bloody wouldn't!

If they could figure out a way for the kettle to steam open their pouches of cat food, they would.

I've been woken up late at night before by next door watching TV really loudly, only to discover that one of the cats had managed to turn my TV on. I now have to be careful of where I leave the remote when I go to bed.

Allergictoironing · 20/11/2025 14:49

Whereas it would be A Bad Thing for my bank balance as Girlcat would turn the heating on unless it was about 25c outside & at least 23c inside!

I have caved to the complaints of my hands, and have turned the heating on here for a bit. Up until now it's been 90 mins in the mornings & 2 hours evenings.

Are you able to turn it off at the wall?

And do they have any favourite programmes?

LostCats2 · 20/11/2025 17:34

Ahahaha!!
Please tell me someone else noticed the bottom of the F&M website?
I was quite fascinated by the cat paw balm and then saw what was advertised for what is bought next 😄😄😄

ARGH WHY CAN'T I ADD THE IMAGE!!!

LostCats2 · 20/11/2025 17:36

Ok. I try again.

Why is my image under review? It is just a picture of Paw Balm and a bottle of wine! Ruining my joke!

ALL images go under review nowadays here, until it can be checked.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/11/2025 18:32

@LostCats2 MN was invaded by a ghastly series of CSAM images a few months ago, and as a result, all images are now reviewed before they appear.

I could turn it off at the wall but I just put the remote into a pouch I have on the sofa arm now. They had football on when they woke me up.

Fred does like watching TV. He'll watch anything but Toad prefers the YouTube cat games.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/11/2025 19:42

I think I must have acquired a famous MN chicken last Friday.
Accidentally, of course.

I cooked it on Monday. So far, it has provided me with the following:

MONDAY Roast dinner for two

TUESDAY Roast dinner for one

WEDNESDAY Roast dinner for one
(I am extremely fond of roast dinner🤣)

THURSDAY Chicken and potato curry for one

Also............. yet another portion of chicken (in gravy) which resides in the freezer. This means that I can further satisfy my roast dinner addiction

And.............. three more portions of chicken and potato curry.

And............... some chicken (also now in the freezer) reserved for either sandwiches or a salad.

And.............. the carcass is even now simmering in the slow cooker as a basis for some kind of soup. Probably lentil. I'm not sure how many portions of this I'll get.

*I'm not sure how many portions of this I'll get.
I shall, of course, update the thread with this important information once I have it.
