What foods does your cat unexpectedly really like?

Every time I have raspberries one of my kittens (Fynn) comes to mug me for one and he won't leave me alone until I surrender a raspberry. I did google to make sure they were safe before I gave him one, and he has just one every other day and he LOVES it!

One of my much-missed and long-departed cats had a penchant for frozen peas. I dropped a couple on the floor once, when I was getting them out of the freezer, and she scrunched them up. After that we would give her a couple every time we had peas with our dinner.

On another occasion we had a different cat pestering us when we were eating an Indian takeaway. He would not leave us alone. Turned out it was the onion bhaji that was the object of his desire. Confused

Most recent - the other day as part of a meal we had mushrooms sauteed in parsley butter. Parsley and mushroom-flavoured butter was very popular.

My Lily grabbed a whole jaffa cake and ran off to kill it under the sofa before I could stop her. I didn’t think this was a good idea at all so lured her out with more suitable treats so I could retrieve it.
She thinks any human food must be half hers so I have to keep a very close eye on things. She had a hard life previously so I do wonder if she had to eat anything she could get bless her heart.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 28/04/2024 22:28

Anything he could feast his eyes on. He had the most dodgy stomach so anything that wasn't his grain free cat food would come back. Of course that didn't stop him from pinching food. If I had a bag of crisps or some biscuits that I hadn't finished eating I'd have to hide them under my pillow. He was rather partial to a cheesy watsits. Had to be the real McCoy. Cheap ones wouldn't do and he also loved salt and vinegar chip sticks

I'd not had my rescue cat long when one of the kids dropped a piece of broccoli on the floor and she ate it. Made me sad to think she'd gone hungry and remembered it and ate a piece of non usual cat food. She knows now she'll never ever go without.

Any carbs, so chips, noodles, pasta also biscuits, crisps, cake/scones. She's a nightmare we don't actually feed her all of this but she'll try eat it is she gets a chance

mariesatonhisknee · 28/04/2024 22:33

Cheese ! Stanley goes mad for cheese m. My previous gorgeous cat Lucas was all about the mashed potato

Canwegetanothercat · 28/04/2024 22:36

Any kind of salt and vinegar or pickled onion crisp. And baked beans

Ravenclawhouse · 28/04/2024 22:36

Scampi Smile so probably quite normal for a cat! He goes mad for it

Circlingthesun · 28/04/2024 22:44

Dcat1: jacket potato, butter and baked beans, toast & marmite, crisps, any pork product- bacon, sausage, gammon, ham, pork chop, roast pork, pigs in blankets, you get the picture

Dcat2: any green vegetable, toast with jam, whisky but not wine (learnt to cover glass), any salad, hummus, grapes and banana

ViveLaOeuf · 28/04/2024 22:46

Salted popcorn!

BeReet · 28/04/2024 22:49

My cat George likes Nice 'N' Spicy NikNaks and is also partial to a tsp of condensed milk (not together thankfully 🤢) My other cat Boris loves himself a chunk of chocolate cake, preferably with chocolate buttercream icing

headache · 28/04/2024 22:51

One loves sweetcorn, one loves cheese and one loves ham

Anotherdayanothernight · 28/04/2024 22:57

My Caesar loves olives, he's always trying to lick/eat them when I put a bowl out

MistyMountainTop · 28/04/2024 22:58

Late DCat loved broad beans, especially if they were double podded. Also parmesan cheese above all other types of cheese. She used to have a portion of broad bean bruscetta with us, before I'd added the lemon juice to ours

Lindy2 · 28/04/2024 23:00

Marmite.

Obviously only in tiny amounts because of the salt, but Dcat loves marmite.

Xyz1234567 · 28/04/2024 23:01

Sounds like George is a cat of impeccable taste BeReet.
I live in Scotland and my cat will bite, scratch and tear her way through any obstacle to get at tablet. I've arrived home on more than one occasion to find her passed out in a sugar coma on the living room carpet, surrounded by half chewed lumps of tablet.

Ooh I forgot to add to my OP, I knew someone whose cat was a fiend for crisps! She would hop up on the worktop, pinch a bag of crisps and claw at it until it split open and she'd eat them!

Our cats love crisps, especially original pringles. They hook them out of the tube if you don’t get the lid back on.

Thry also love peas and broccoli.

Caswallonthefox · 28/04/2024 23:08

I have known cats who like:
Digestive biscuits
Polo's
Chips
Lettuce
Raisins.
Peas, sweetcorn and rice
Baked beans
My current cat likes:
Cheese doritos
Wotsits
Popcorn (any flavour)

Clingfilm · 28/04/2024 23:11

Buttered toast (the cheaper and whiter the bread the better)
Cheese
Ritz crackers
Crisps/anything brown carby and crunchy
We can't eat any sort of tinned fish if she's in the house, she becomes absolutely CRAZED.

Clingfilm · 28/04/2024 23:12

Oh and she doesn't eat, but goes off her head rubbing against a bag of supermarket carrots.

Sealover123 · 28/04/2024 23:19

Wotsits and pizza 😂

countvoncount · 28/04/2024 23:20

This is Colin, he adores pate and trifle, spoon fed.

my mother's cat was obsessed with wine gums. If you ate one he would basically stick his head in your mouth to try to get some whilst you were chewing.
Not that fussed or greedy about any other food either....

Rhino94 · 28/04/2024 23:24

Our one loves a Barney Bear! Has snatched from my DS hand before, have to keep cat away if he’s having one now!
