Goodbye darling Cheddar.

Am absolutely blindsided. Thought she has pain from Arthritis and had a bad reaction to Gabapentin. Took her to the OOH vet early this morning as she couldn't stand. And they just thought she had severe pain. Then she started fitting. She was referred to Neurology at a specialist hospital. But was too unstable to transfer. She was minimally conscious by the time I got there. But perked up when she saw me.
She was the most amazing, affectionate, cuddly cat you could ever meet. Such a huge personality. I thought we had years left. It'll be weird to be able to eat unmolested and have a bath in peace.

I'm so sorry Toddler. I loved seeing Cheddar's squishy face. 💐

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2024 09:37

The rescue mentioned that they'd promised homes to three more cars from the same place Pen came from. Not sure about that. And I'm still so shocked I can't really think straight. With the other two it was easier, as I knew it was coming. But not this time. And it will need to be a very special cat to honour Cheds.

It must have been such a shock for you.
We felt that we knew your little girl from your posts on here.
She had beautiful eyes and a cheeky face.
Hope you and Penelope Pickle are ok x

hellswelshy · 16/04/2024 09:59

So sorry, I know that shock and pain, sending love from me - another devoted cat slave 🌻

PuppetQueen · 16/04/2024 10:22

Oh Toddler, I'm so very sorry. I always click on your threads when I see them and have really enjoyed following the antics of Snorg and Cheddar, and now Penelope. They have practically become the official pet cats of Mumsnet. It sounds like Cheddar had a wonderful six years with you and was very much loved. Thinking of you and Penelope and sending you strength.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2024 10:32

Penelope was poking me in the face this morning. That's exactly what Cheddar did. I noticed that she was copying a lot of Cheddars behaviour, which is lovely, she was a good role model.

She got very close to getting her claw in my eye a few times, while making biscuits. I always wondered how I'd explain that one to eye casualty!

such cute cats. Is the black one an exotic shorthair or a Persian?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2024 16:54

The black one was a long haired Persian. The red one, was an exotic shorthair.

Such a little character, such an expressive face.

I am sure it was a privilege to have her in your life. And I am sure you made her very happy.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2024 17:42

The lady from the cattery said she was the friendliest, most confident Persian they'd had. Which was nice. It was my privilege to have her in my life. I don't know how I got so lucky with her. It's shame her fan club never met her in person.

Cheddar will send you a cat when the time is right; she is up there looking for just the right one.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2024 17:53

Yes. I'm sure she will. Maia sent her to me. And Magic sent Penelope. The stars just aligned with both of them. The rescue originally said I couldn't have Cheddar as she needed a busy house. Then changed their mind. It really put me off and I almost didn't go and visit her!! It took me about 30 seconds to fall in love with her.

I'm so sorry to hear this news... sending sympathy. 💐

mildlydispeptic · 16/04/2024 18:47

Oh Toddler, I'm so terribly sorry to hear about your lovely girl. We pay such a heavy price for the love of these little creatures. You were such a kind and caring cat mother - she couldn't have had a better home.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2024 19:42

Wondering what to get to remember her by. Magic and Maia have their ashes on glass pig paperweights. (There is a story why they are in pigs) wondering whether to do that for Cheddar, or get her a heart shape instead. Might get a key ring with hers and Pens prints on. I have one for Magic and Maia.
