I'm amazed that the first thread has filled up. So he's another thread about the inmates of Toddler Towers!

I'm not sure they will have the brains to work out jumping over a stair gate though!

I've got a stair gate from facebook marketplace. I've taken Penelope out in the garden for a bit. She jumped on the bed and Paddington went for her. I'm not sure if she caught him off guard or startled him though. They've been settled all day.

Stair gate worked really well for us settling Cat Three in. Each get their own space, but get used to seeing and smelling the other.
The only time it was tricky juggling them was at night - who sleeps in the bedroom?

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2024 20:45

Penelope will sleep in the bedroom. She's slept with me since I got her!

I really hope it works. He's much more dominant than I was expecting, I'd be gutted it I couldn't keep him. He's a lovely boy.

We look l he can get over the gate! So I've moved a litter tray and Penelope's food into my room and given him the run of the house. Not sure that's the best thing, but she spends the majority of her time in my room. Paddington was cuddling up to me just the way Cheddar would do.

Well, he. That should say.

So apparently breeders put the cats in pens to DTD. No wonder Penelope is scared of Paddington, she was completely traumatised by her attempted breeding experience. So hopefully she'll relax when she realises it's not the same.

Have you done scent swapping?

Toddlerteaplease · 18/05/2024 11:43

Kind of. I wanted to swap blankets when o first met him. But Penelope had never touched hers. And his was in his carrier as his comforter so didn't want to take it. However he has been sitting in her spot in the wardrobe, and sniffs around a lot. Penelope was much happier this morning.

I found my cats couldn’t get over the stair gate if it was at the turn in the stairs, or the top.
If Penelope is happy in the bedroom, keep her in. Then do all the introducing.
Feeding next to the door/ baby gate was really effective for me. My madam was very hesitant with Cat Three, but will go anywhere for dinner and treats.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/05/2024 18:34

I don't think it will fit on the turn. They both seem much calmer today. So fingers crossed. Paddington spent about half an hour making biscuits in his blanket. Before joining me for a nap! He's currently sitting on the cat tree. I've left thr door open for Pen if she wants to come out. But she's happily sun bathing and enjoying waitress service to her windowsill. She's found her voice again.

I thought Pen was a messy eater. He's even worse!

Oh he’s just lovely. Fingers crossed they start to get on

SoDoffYourHat · 18/05/2024 20:52

It's such early days in their companionship - it's always been several weeks before a new cat and an existing cat tolerated each other in my house. Mine still have some spats five years on!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/05/2024 21:19

They both seem happier today. I've got Paddington's fleece blanket, that he came with on the sofa. And he loves it. Penelope won't come out of the room, but is looking much happier with life! The door is open, but he's not bothering her at all.

Having. A litter tray in my bedroom is no fun at all! 😷😬

Love Pen's hippo position.

I have to admit new cat is totally a Paddington. And ludicrously cuddly.
