I'm amazed that the first thread has filled up. So he's another thread about the inmates of Toddler Towers!

I think they are both very similar temperaments. So that might help or might make it more difficult. If Penelope is the aggressor, then I'm not as concerned. As she need to be the boss.

I agree that if it's her as incumbent cat asserting herself it should all be ok.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2024 10:21

Current state of affairs. I don't think he's got an aggressive bone in his body. Although I did think that about Cheddar!

I love that she is asserting her place on top of the pillow! I think they'll be fine together.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2024 11:24

She has never slept in the pillow until Paddingtons arrival. It was always cheddars place, and she slept by my feet. She then moved up to under my arm.

They seem to be settling well.
Penelope has promoted herself!

My sister is at it again. 😂

I've got separate litter trays, but he made a beeline for hers and his hasn't been touched.

That is a covert sign of dominance or territory marking - he's putting his smell over hers.

I tried to have separate trays for mine but it was just a waste in the end because they both used them - although initially she tried to stick to hers and he used both.

I'm very careful to scoop regularly though.

SoDoffYourHat · 16/05/2024 13:17

Perhaps pop a bit of Pen's used litter in Paddington's tray to encourage him to use it?

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2024 13:59

Actually they are both being used. I scooped quite a lot out of his tray this morning!

He looks like a very distinguished gentleman

Paddington has an upset tummy from the sudden diet change. He decided no more Harringtons for him. He wanted Sheba. But at least he made it to the litter tray! The rescue did day he got the squits when
They changed his food.

Pen is reluctant to move from her favourite vantage point on the bedroom windowsill. So I've been taking her food to her, to reduce any conflict with Pads eating all the food. She loves having waitress service. 🤣

You may never be able to pull back from that :)

Toddlerteaplease · 16/05/2024 23:13

@Ellmau I know! Ice made a rod for my own back. One of them had weed a bit on my new duvet. Not sure who!

Congratulations Toddler! He’s lovely.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2024 08:28

Thanks, he is. Penelope is struggling though and I don't know how to help her. I'm feeding her separately, and there are two litter boxes. But she's barely coming out of the bedroom, and I think it was her who's peer on the bed. She never does that. I've got a feliway diffuser. But wondering wether to swap it for a feliway friends one.

He's asserted his dominance ... even if he didn't mean to.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2024 11:21

I've been advised to put him back in the spare room again and start again. But he hates it in there and in this weather it's like an oven. Penelope is ensconced on her favourite sun spot with food and water and I've shut the curtain on her. She seems happier.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2024 11:28

This is the exact behaved we had when she first arrived. She didn't come out of her room for ten days, then was fine. She's a feisty miss, when she wants to be. And he is less in your face than Cheddar. He literally backs off the minute she hisses.

You're experienced enough to be able to make the call based on what you're seeing, I think.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2024 11:54

I'm tempted to just leave it as it is to be honest and keep feeding her separately . Once she realises he's an absolute softy she'll be ok. It's still very very early days.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2024 13:01

I've ordered a stair gate. So Penelope can have upstairs and pads downstairs.

OP posts:
Cailleach1 · 17/05/2024 14:11

I hope that works. As both cats have jumped up onto your window sills already, you seem to be dealing with quite agile characters now.
