Please don't flame me I'm here for advice.

My 'house' cat has just given birth to 1 kitten, I did not know she was expecting, no real weight gain and she is a longhair so has disguised this well. The 1s

Gorgeous cat OP - is she a blue point ragdoll?

I'd definitely get her spayed once the vet advises she and the kittens are ready for it

Do you think you'll keep one of the kittens?

Thatsridiculous · 30/07/2023 22:33

Oh wow I bet that was a surprise!!

Hope mum and her kittens are doing ok

ludicrouslycapaciousbags · 30/07/2023 22:37

She is indeed a ragdoll.

So bit of a story behind her, quite sad. Family member purchased her when she was quite mentally unwell, on a high spell and got her on a whim, family member became increasingly unwell and was unable to care for her so I took her in, was only going to be a few months but she's mine now.

I absolutely adore her and now I'm calming down feeling quite upset that I've allowed this to happen. The plan of course was to get her neutered but due to being highly stressed when going to the vets, they said it could wait a few months and she would be fine due to not going out! My fault, this should have been done.

I have set up in my bedroom, they are in a dog playpen (think that's what it's called) plenty of blankets, etc. kitten food was advised for mum, she hasn't touched it nor any water. Can't imagine I will get much sleep tonight, I'm obsessed with making sure they are all ok.

Best thread on here for ages. So cute plz post more pics Smile

GuppytheCat · 30/07/2023 22:46

I foster kittens for a rescue. Unless she or they seem distressed, you need to avoid disturbing her or handling them for the next few days while they bond. Just nip in quickly to do food and litter tray.

After that, see if you can weigh them (bowl on a kitchen scale will do) and check that the weight steadily increases.

Yes to providing kitten food (wet and dry if you can).

Good luck!

I had an addition of 4 to my horror. I made a cosy corner in the bathroom as it was tiled and sort of hygienic. The mum ate like a horse so food water available. It is quite a lovely experience and they'll be running around your house being cute.
They're good fun . I rehomed them to family members and still see them ☺️

Merapi · 30/07/2023 22:49

Live kittens threads are the best ❤

Emelene · 30/07/2023 23:18

What a surprise! You’re doing a great job OP!

Teenagehorrorbag · 30/07/2023 23:21

Aah, how lovely! Maybe not what you planned but you'll love being a kitten Grandma I'm sure. So cute......

Ragdolls are gorgeous cats.....

ThelmaDinkley · 30/07/2023 23:22

Aw hope mummy cat and kittens are doing well.

Saltybanana · 31/07/2023 00:02

Congratulations, OP! No judgement here - we had a surprise delivery too, four weeks ago! We inherited a cat from our elderly neighbour who told us it was a boy who had been ‘fixed’ - had been an indoor cat, which we continued but then my mum let him (her!) out. Lo and behold - four little ones, all doing great 🤞🏻

OP Have you put the food, water and litter tray near the mum? she will not go far away from the kittens

StillWantingADog · 31/07/2023 00:11

Don’t beat yourself up OP. She’s lucky she has you to look after her. I’m sure you’ll
make sure they go to good homes when the time comes.

sounds like she is a fab cat mum

just book her in to make sure it doesn’t happen again but in the meantime enjoy having newborn kittens in the house. Surely a once in a lifetime experience

watcherintherye · 31/07/2023 00:11

Aw, love these kitten pics! I don’t get broody for babies any more, but kittens…..😻

caringcarer · 31/07/2023 00:54

While Mum cat is feeding her kitties she will eat about twice as much as normal. I'd buy her kitten milk too as it has nutrients in for Mum to drink not the kittens.

Me too. My son is moving out next week. He says once he has sorted out the house he is buying he is getting 2 kittens so they will be my Grandkitties.

ludicrouslycapaciousbags · 31/07/2023 06:37

Morning all

Lovely to wake up to all these supportive comments and I really appreciate the advice, it's really helpful - thanks

I have her food, water and tray all near by for her but she hasn't left the kittens. Thanks for the tip about kitten milk, will pick that up today.

Everyone slept including me! few wee squeaks during the night but all very chilled. Mum is purring away this morning and looking rather proud 😊

Couple more pics - maybe a bit clearer?

She'll need kitten food rather than her normal food - it's got more calories while she's nursing ☺️

PuppyMonkey · 31/07/2023 07:08

Aww absolute loveliness. IME mum will sort everything OP, relax and leave her to it. Life will be quiet for a week or two and then the kittens will become… kittens.Grin

Allmyghosts · 31/07/2023 07:15

Rip your curtains Grin are you going to keep any of them?

Doggytastic · 31/07/2023 07:17

Ahhhhh, lovely! Congratulations on your beautiful kittens. ❤️

LoonyLois · 31/07/2023 07:21

How lovely!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/07/2023 07:23

Ah, my ragdoll is the product of her mother ragdoll’s “exciting adventure” outside 😂 beautiful kitties. They make good mummies. I can totally understand how she disguised a pregnancy, I often ask my girl if there are kittens in there (she’s spayed!) because she’s such a chonker.
Are you going to keep the babies?

pickledandpuzzled · 31/07/2023 07:29

I'm so jealous! I had a cat arrive, stay briefly and leave kittens behind. Clever madam. Got her spayed in the meantime though so she won't have done it to anyone else.

It's one of the best things ever.

Effingmagicfairy · 31/07/2023 07:29

Gosh - what a surprise for you! Mum looks very content with her babies, lovely pics.
