We found a kitten. Tips

Help! My daughter and husband have brought this sweet baby home having found it in a roadside. It’s a bit bitey and scared so I haven’t checked sex yet.

I’m off to the vet in a bit to check for any chip and to see what condition it’s in.

It has a good voice so I’m hoping it’s ok, although one eye is a little droopy.

It’s had a drink and is peeking up a bit now it’s out of the sun.

Anything else I should be doing other than keeping it safe?

I’ve had cats before but rescued as adults, never a kitten!!

Hello Terry, you beautiful boy. Enjoy your new home xx🐈‍⬛

FoundAKittenOops · 24/06/2023 19:23

He’s coming on leaps and bounds @RedRosie. He’s taking to play pouncing and hunting today and has gained weight since we found him.

he’s an absolute sweetie. Need to start the slow process of introducing him to the dog too. The hound is very big, and very daft, and so I want to take my time!

What. A. Cutie. Kitten envy here. So glad he’s doing well.

Florissante · 24/06/2023 20:24

That's great news. He's doing so well!

RedRosie · 24/06/2023 20:59

Goodness. So beautiful 😻. Look at that little face!

He's fallen on his paws. I can see that.

RedRosie · 02/07/2023 10:19

Shamelessly bumping @FoundAKittenOops just in case you happened to have (coughs) taken any more photos.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/07/2023 10:26

What a beautiful kitten ! A very lucky escape for him as he was already maggot infested. He must have been alone for a while, poor little scrap.
He looks so much better now than in the first picture.

Florissante · 02/07/2023 10:45

We can judge how well he's doing on by photographs. cough cough

FoundAKittenOops · 02/07/2023 11:58

Well, he’s getting bigger and is definitely feeling better. He’s turned into a totally adorable menace how likes pouncing on me at all hours. He’s climbing, jumping , playing, and generally behaving like a cat.

I have the paperwork completed for the vet so won’t be long before he has his jabs.

Introductions with the dog are going very slowly but are definitely improving.

He's been spoiled with new toys and a new scratching post. He’s desperate to roam the house but we’re open plan outside the rooms and I don’t want the dog getting him. So I’m just letting him mooch with me while I do jobs.

As we both work from home he’s never left long and gets loads of company. I’m slightly worried he’ll forget me when we’re on holiday and be cross when I get back. 🤣

Only thing still a bit wobbly is his tummy. He has the odd upset stomach. But I’ve a second round of worming to give him this week and I imagine he’s still getting used to bought food. I’ll keep an eye on him

Also shamelessly here for photos .
We have 2 adult black cats (bro/sis) who were a year old when they came to live with us . All long legged ans Slinky Malinki .
When I look at your kitten photo it's like he's saying "Yeah this is what you missed The Kitten Years" but TBH , the bitey little baby teeth I can do without Grin

I bet he weighs no more than a whisper and sticks his legs out at 90 degrees when you lift him Smile
Love the photo of him at the door Hmmm closed door , That's an insult and a challenge for a little cat

Beamur · 02/07/2023 12:20

Love the fangs.
In my experience kittens are often a bit wobbly of tum but once you find the right food and their gut matures a bit it gets better.

FoundAKittenOops · 02/07/2023 12:33

@70isaLimitNotaTarget he is very bitey but somehow not as pointy as the dog was as a puppy. He’s also has his first claw trim. He did very well. He definitely does the straight legs 🤣

@Beamur thanks for the reassurance about his tummy.

Great photos. He is turning into a little character.

MadCatLady27 · 02/07/2023 14:28

He's sweet and is so lucky you found him!

When one of ours has a dodgy tummy, we cook up a bit of white fish (can get bags of frozen in Asda) or a bit of chicken, nice and plain for him and have him on that for a couple of days until his poops have cleared up.

I don't know if kittens can have them, but our BSH has a very sensitive tummy and has flare ups on occasions, so we have a box of probiotics in the cupboard, so they're on hand to give him for a few days - they're about £11 from our vet - you just open the capsule and sprinkle the powder on his feed so may be worth chatting to the vet to see if Terry could have a course, could help stabilise his tummy as well if he was wormy

EmmaPaella · 02/07/2023 14:35

Oh he is so adorable. Well done @FoundAKittenOops

Floralnomad · 02/07/2023 15:11

So cute 🐾

nocoolnamesleft · 02/07/2023 15:23

What an adorable little panther.

FoundAKittenOops · 02/07/2023 15:27

Thanks @MadCatLady27 I'll speak to the vet and see what she recommends. I’m really wary of giving him anything with him being so young. It’s like having a newborn! (Only with more pouncing)

Well done OP you’re a star 🌟

Could your husband go back to where the kitten was found in case there are any more from the litter or a Mother in trouble?

AHugeTinyMistake · 02/07/2023 15:34

Mini panther ❤

Terry is lovely, well done OP

FoundAKittenOops · 02/07/2023 15:36

@ZebraDilemma he and my daughter have cycled past there and checked but nothing. No sign of any others, much to my daughters disappoint!

What a beautiful fiesty kitty! He will make a perfect overlord once he gets the run of your place. Congratulations all round !💐

bonfirebash · 03/07/2023 00:18

It's not the cheapest but thrive do a kitten food which is basically shredded chicken in broth and very very plain

Oh what a beauty!

How did I miss this last month?

He is gorgeous. A word of advice about the bitey-ness from one tiny kitten rescuer to another: start training him out of it immediately & don't let him play with your fingers - always use a toy.

Without littermates, he'll never learn how sharp those fangs are or how strong his jaws are!

(I call them lovebites now...)
