Unwanted cat

Hi. How can I give away a cat I rescued? It is not working out. I really need the cat gone to somewhere happier. The rescue have said the cat can be rehomed but seems to be a long waiting lost. Is there no other option? It is a senior cat. Timid.

Poor little thing :(

Bluebirdpinkcat · 27/01/2023 22:40

You can take the cat back to the rescue - we had to do this when we were misled we literally had to just put the carrier on the desk and walk out. I think ours was an extreme case as they had told us compete lies about health and temperament and said the cat was fine around other cats and dog and children and he wasn’t

ofwarren · 27/01/2023 22:40

Why did you get a cat if you don't want it?

Devilou666 · 27/01/2023 22:41

Isn't there a rule that you have re-home via the rescue themselves,so presume you have to wait til they have space.

Mariposa26 · 27/01/2023 23:04

Poor thing, why don’t you want it?

Elle54321 · 27/01/2023 23:06

If this was a recent rescue then the cat might be timid because he/she is still getting used to their home, it might take a few weeks or even longer for them to feel secure.

Nsky62 · 27/01/2023 23:08

Advertise on next door and explain about the cat, you may be surprised

007DoubleOSeven · 27/01/2023 23:08

You're going to get roasted here, I think, op.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 27/01/2023 23:13

Try contacting other rescues. The cat needs to be where it is loved and wanted.

neurospicygal · 27/01/2023 23:14

hello OP how long have you had the cat? If its less than 3 months , could you give it a little longer? it takes rescues a long time to get settled sometimes. Is there anything specific you are struggling with, lots of people here maybe can help with advice if you let us know more detail.

WhoNeedsSleepNotISaidMyBody · 27/01/2023 23:18

Did you intend to rescue a cat or was it an accidental rescue?

Why do you need rid of it?

sorry, it's all a bit confusing.

A photo would help!

Catdilema · 27/01/2023 23:40

I've made a bit of a mistake getting it. I can admit that. I am human after all. After writing this I realise I cannot even rehome it properly as it is ill now I think. It's a real mess.

I got her 17 Nov. She was described as shy. But she has literally stayed under a bed for 20 hrs a day for around 2 months. Very recently she has started coming out and letting us stroke her. No toddlers or other pets in house, just she was scared.

She was peeing and pooing in living room. Had to eventualy stop her going in there. Has damaged a lot of carpet from scrathing to get in there and leave house.

I asked the rescue people since around 2 weeks in that I did not think it would work but they have just been saying long waiting lists since then. They do ask cat rehomed to them but will not take her. She is microchipped to me.

Now the trouble. As I thought she was going back I did not extend the insurance (free 1 month). But time has passed. Now... she is bleeding when passing stool. Began yesterday. Now a huge bloody diahhroea on my bed.

I am so upset at cleaning poo, urine, now blood. Occasional vomitting a bit but assume thats normal if eaten too much.

I will take to vet. I left it a day in case it was just some random irritation.

Please do not berate me. I have been kind to her. Maybe made some stupid decisions but not malicious.

She just turned 15 last week.

I feel so trapped and confused. And worried A LOT about money.

Take her to the vet immediately- the poor thing. "It" deserves so much better!!

sunshinesupermum · 27/01/2023 23:45

She sounds seriously unwell. Please take her to the vet ASAP.

Toomuchinfor · 27/01/2023 23:48

I would have her put to sleep at that age and with such a poor quality of life if you're unable to manage the vet's bills. Highly unlikely the charity could either.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/01/2023 23:48

The poor thing. As pp said, vet ASAP.

Viviennemary · 27/01/2023 23:49

This poor cat sounds very ill indeed. You are doing the right thing taking it to the vets. It's unlikely the cat will be able to be rehomed given its state of health and age.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/01/2023 23:49

I can't believe you've left it since yesterday and all today tbh. That's disgraceful.

cushioncovers · 27/01/2023 23:49

You need some help op. The cat needs to go to the vet and you will have to pay I'm afraid but it sounds like you're overwhelmed by the needs of the cat. After the vet has sorted her out speak to the place you got her from and have a proper discussion about returning her

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/01/2023 23:51

You're busy calling an emergency vet, right?

WetBandits · 27/01/2023 23:53

Oh the poor old girl, this hurts my heart 😔

Please call the emergency vet, she sounds seriously unwell. You didn’t insure her so whatever the bill comes to is unfortunately your responsibility as it’s a situation of your own making.

And please don’t get any more pets.

Devilou666 · 27/01/2023 23:55

I think the best thing for the poor cat would be to be PTS,no more pain or being unloved.

Catdilema · 27/01/2023 23:57

Thank you for the constructive posts and messages.

Blood in bowel movement is not an A&E situation for humans. It can be because of excessive straining for example. She is fine in herself. I think leaving it for a day is fine to check it is something serious. I can see from this evening's episode that it is.

I cannot see what else in my post suggests she is very unwell. She has been sick a few times. The last cat I looked after was ocassionaly sick too. I can see now with the blood it is possibly linked.

Elle54321 · 27/01/2023 23:57

Hope it is just a tummy upset, happens to one of mine if she manages to steal the tiniest bit of milk, but of course vet is the best plan.

Catdilema · 28/01/2023 00:01

How is it an emergency? I really think some of you are being dramatic. "Disgraceful"? What? For all your empathy ... do you have any actual Humanity? Why beat a person when they will already be feeling shit and have learnt a lesson?

I have damaged this cat or been cruel!
