Unwanted cat

Hi. How can I give away a cat I rescued? It is not working out. I really need the cat gone to somewhere happier. The rescue have said the cat can be rehomed but seems to be a long waiting lost. Is there no other option? It is a senior cat. Timid.

OP posts:
Tia74 · 28/01/2023 09:42

Why would you give up on a rescue cat. It's a rescue for a reason. They need u! Whatever. I had one only for 4 years. 8 when I got her. She had been abused. No one said before. Eventually she had urinary problems. Then last 6 months IBD, which sounds like your cat.

I paid out thousands. Some on insurance. Some not. But we gave her everything. Until we couldn't.

Do not get a rescue cat if you can't rescue them

PatientZorro · 28/01/2023 10:01

What a sad thread. Poor old cat, bless her

PatientZorro · 28/01/2023 10:06

You’re all she’s got OP. She has no choice but to rely on you and she’s poorly, frightened and in pain. Please take her straight to the vet this morning. It might be the end of the line for the poor old girl, very sad, please make it as painless and kind as you can.

Thank you for the constructive posts and messages.

Blood in bowel movement is not an A&E situation for humans. It can be because of excessive straining for example. She is fine in herself. I think leaving it for a day is fine to check it is something serious. I can see from this evening's episode that it is.

I cannot see what else in my post suggests she is very unwell. She has been sick a few times. The last cat I looked after was ocassionaly sick too. I can see now with the blood it is possibly linked.

As a nurse fresh blood in in any living creature is an emergency! Has someone kicked ‘it’ …take to a vet immediately!

MaoamAddict · 28/01/2023 04:20

Take the cat to the vets and PTS. At 15, she's not going to want invasive medical assessments, you're worried about money and there's no capacity for the rescue to rehome her. But take her ASAP!

Why does she need to be PTS?

Bloody stools can be a sign of numerous things - some relatively minor, some more serious. There's absolutely no need to jump to euthanasia when the cat hasn't even been checked over yet.

OP - as everyone has said, your cat needs to see the vet. Please don't be tempted to leave it until Monday.

NewBootsAndRanty · 28/01/2023 11:29

How's the cat after the vet visit @Catdilema ?

neurospicygal · 28/01/2023 11:42

good afternoon OP. i hope you've managed to get her to the vet and have some answers. i hope she can be treated or if not the kindest thing to do is pts.
if she can be treated she may well come out of her shell more and feel more secure. we rescued a healthy young cat and she wouldn't tolerate more than one stroke and a treat each time or sit on our laps for 18 months! even now she doesn't love affection unless it's on her terms and we feel absolute privilege when she chooses to come up to us. i think lowering expectations of any rescue is a good idea. i hope things improve for her.

Devilou666 · 28/01/2023 12:23

I don't think op will be back.

Julen7 · 28/01/2023 12:29

Great, that now leaves me worrying about this poor cat with no resolution

userxx · 28/01/2023 12:30

Really wish I hadn't read this thread. That poor cat.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/01/2023 12:32

What happened to “the last cat you looked after”? (odd way of putting it).

When you have resolved your current situation, please don’t take on any more cats. Pet ownership can be messy.

thisusernameisnotavailablepleasetryanother · 28/01/2023 12:51

@userxx me too. How utterly irresponsible of OP to just leave her poor cat in ill health while she just takes herself off to bed.
When I commented last night I just couldn't believe how cruel she was being.
I don't think the OP will be back with an update. I found it hard to sleep last night after reading the thread. Poor little cat.
I really do hope she's okay

RockingAmadeus · 28/01/2023 13:03

Some people do not deserve the privilege of having any animal in their care. That poor cat put its trust in you to take care of her and she has been let down again. The rescue centres should do more intense vetting before rehoming animals. What an absolutely shocking way to treat a living defenceless animal.

Ludo19 · 28/01/2023 13:21

This post has really upset me. I'm a vet nurse, trust me that poor old girl needs to see a vet and the fact you refer to her as"it" speaks volumes to me about how you feel towards her. Don't get another pet, you are not equipped to deal with them.

MermaidEyes · 28/01/2023 13:30

I hope the poor cat is ok today. Blood in the stools of a young cat isn't necessarily an emergency as it's more often than not a sign of a food intolerance or IBD, but in an older cat it could definitely be something more serious and needs checking out.
I can see you wanted to do a nice thing by rehoming a cat, but in all honesty, unless you've had a lot of cat experience, older cats are not ideal. Fifteen is a good age for a cat, most don't live that long, so you should really be aware that they're more likely to start to have serious health issues that will cost a lot of money. From the sounds of your posts you've "looked after" cats but maybe not previously owned?

BlueKaftan · 28/01/2023 13:39

I’m sorry you are struggling OP. If you could sort out her digestive issues would you keep her? I had the issues with my newly adopted cat and then I started giving her a raw diet several times a week. This solved the problem literally overnight. Best wishes. 💐

The op isn't going to keep her. Read the title of the thread 😞

Catdilema · 28/01/2023 17:28

Thank you to the understanding posters again. And no I won't be coming back to this thread. Enjoy bitching amongst yourselves.

And anyone who has advised, I have taken on your comments and guidance so please rest assured of that. The cat is fine.

OP nobody is ‘bitching’; you’ve posted on a board for cat lovers so obviously we are going to be worried about the poor old girl.

ladydimitrescu · 28/01/2023 19:19

So the cat hasn't gone to the vet then? This is absolutely infuriating, don't get another animal ffs.

thisusernameisnotavailablepleasetryanother · 28/01/2023 20:56

You're a disgrace OP!! What a horrible human

Of course she hasn’t, no vet would say that a cat in this state was ‘fine’ Sad

cushioncovers · 29/01/2023 09:38

No she hasn't taken the cat to the vets otherwise she would have given us an update. Weekend rates are very expensive you know. 🤦‍♀️🙄

I’m not reading “bitching”. I’m reading a lot of people concerned about the cat that you are not caring for properly.
Repeat, please don’t ever take on any more animals.
