Katkin cat food

I've had a random ad pop up for this, and looking into it I think I'd like to try it. I've put all Sparklingcat's details in and it says the cost of feeding her would be £1.89 a day, and that she would only need 1 pouch a day?

Shes 3kg, skinny with a hyperactive thyroid (which she has tablets for) and about 16. She currently wolfs through 4 pouches a day of 'Felix as Good as it Looks'.

Anyone got any experience? There's a 20% off trial but just not sure.

Sooo. The first lot arrived today. And she’s just eaten a whole pouch in one go . 😮

😂😂 she obviously likes it!! So pleased.

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2022 19:06

I am very pleased. But I’m going to have to ration it a bit or it’s going to cost a fortune.😂

My cat is 14 and hyperthyroid. She usually does just have the one katkin pouch a day but I top her up with biscuits if not. Have you had your cats thyroid levels checked recently? It sounds as if they may be high?

She had them checked last month and is on 35mg of Vidalta a day at the moment, she's back at the vets next week for a check up.
It's difficult because the vet wants her to stay 3 kg or over and says if she can eat more get her to eat more.

I'll try tomorrow to split it, she always has dried food down and she gets through that slowly.

Ah your cat is on more Vidalta than mine (she’s on 20mg and has become quite sluggish so I want to make sure it isn’t too much). Mind you my cat is tiny.

Hope you get it sorted, I read up on the radioactive treatment until I found out the cat returns home radioactive!!!

She’s had the hyperactive thyroid for years now. I really wish that back when she was diagnosed instead of medicating we’d gone for surgery.
I think she’s too old now.
I saw the radioactive thing but didn’t like the sound of it and her being away for weeks!

About to serve her some more Katkin so we’ll see how this goes 😄

We have half a pouch in the morning and the other half in the evening. Fattypuss starts requesting his supper at about midday!

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2022 12:01

She's had 3/4 of a pouch at 9am and gone back to bed, we now wait to see when she next asks for food. Grin

Uh-oh . First day of 2023, 28 pouches arrived on Friday, gave her a third of a pouch of Mooo this morning and she’s licked it a bit and left it. ☹️

Have you tried warming it slightly with either a little boiling water or in the microwave? Mine prefer it luke warm.

The flavours are all quite different. Moo is DCat's favourite, and he also enjoys Gobble and Click, but he doesn't like the fishy varieties or Quack. So I don't order those for him now.

It's amazing food though, DCat is an indoor cat and I honestly have no idea when he's used his litter tray (if is wasn't for the fact he takes stasfaction in throwing litter halfway across the room)

Logoplanter · 02/01/2023 08:57

I really like the idea of a monthly subscription as I'm fed up of running out of cat food and I've struggled to get hold of what they are eating recently.

I've just gone with a trial from Cool Cats which is tins but noticed the meat content isn't as high as Katkins.

Might try Katkins after Christmas if I've managed to free up some freezer space.

I hope your cat has a change of heart OP if you've got 28 packets of food in the freezer!

So when she next cried for dinner I emptied the text of the Mooo on top and she ate the lot.
Today’s was Splash and she wolfed that down-so I think I do need to keep an eye on flavours.

The litter tray has been quite a revelation. Before Katkin it was pretty bad 😷 but now I have to check visually for poo !

Our cat loves katkin - typically she’s very fussy (we’d have to rotate felix, whiskas etc to keep her interested) but with katkin she’s much better.

A little fussy on some flavours (she hates splash…) but don’t let that put you off - we’re a year in and she’s still munching away on most of it.

Picture of said picky eater and general nightmare attached for reference. 😆

Aww lovely picture @Deathbyfluffy

We're 3 weeks in and i think Sparklingcat 's coat is softer. She was on Felix As Good as it Looks before this, and would regularly be disinterested, or cry for food, then not be that interested when it arrived.

Before bed last night she wanted food again so I opened up today's pouch of Quack and gave her 1/4 of it. She's had half this morning so she's got only 1/4 left for tonight. We're going to run out of pouches before the next delivery at this rate.

Another good one to try is Untamed - I mix and match the tuna flavours of that with Katkin Moo (they hate the other flavours).

Just looking at Untamed, looks about the same price wise and presuming no freezing/fridge required? Any downsides compared to Katkin?

Like PP we feed both Katkin and Untamed.

Katkin had a wider range of flavours whereas Untamed is basically just chicken or tuna. The Untamed tins are convenient and easy to store, but you'll probably need to feed two or three a day if you're not feeding anything else. Be aware that only the gravy recipes of Untamed are a complete food (the jelly ones are supplemental only I think).

At the moment DCat prefers Katkin and I've paused the Untamed subscription, but he's had phases in the past when Untamed is his preferred menu du jour.

Pelo22 · 04/01/2023 22:42

Haven't tried it but I've been through a LOT of food with mine from Purrform to Lily's kitchen!

The one he reliably eats is natures menu, I give him the kitten one as he's only 3kg and needs the calories and it's a decent high meat content
He loved Purrform but not my cat decided it was also delicious and I couldn't afford two of them on raw especially when one doesn't live here

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 06/01/2023 09:07

I have three cats and feeding them all Katkin is costing me a fortune, I tend to feed them webbox in between but my old moggy is very sensitive and has just developed diarrhoea in that again, so back to only Katkin it is!

dontknowwhatisbest · 06/01/2023 23:32

@ItsMeHiImTheProblem, you might already be doing this anyway, but are you ordering the largest 400 cal Katkin pouches?

DCat is supposed to be on 200 cal according to their calculator, which seems to be working out about right for him. I only realised by accident that there is only quite a small price difference between the 200 cal and 400 cal pouches, despite the 400 ones being double the amount of food! So now I order the 400 pouches and feed them over two days - it works out much better value!

It is brilliant food isnt it - DCat's poos are now practically non existant because his body is clearly digesting it so effectively. And zero litter tray smell!

Yes I am, but the three cats are still going through nearly two pouches a day 😬 one's only seven months old though so still growing. They are brilliant, I had to watch the kitten having a poo 😂 just as I started cleaning the litter tray, they're so little, you can barely find them in the litter!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/01/2023 21:21

Someone gave me a couple of pouches and I tried Harry on it - he looked at me as though I was trying to poison him and refused to eat it! He's currently on Meowing Heads - it smells vile but he's happy!
