Lost cat - what to do next

leotardrock · 25/11/2021 08:35

I've posted on the local lost pet forum on Facebook, shared it on my own page & asked people to share it.
Been walking round the estate shouting him last night and this morning!
I've phoned the local vets hospital - he's not there
I'm going to make some flyers & posters,
He is microchipped - will fish out the paper work and see if there is anything I can do there.
What else can I do? Please help

How old is cat? Is it male or female? Sprayed/neutered. How long cat been missing?

thecatneuterer · 25/11/2021 09:01

How long has he been missing? Flyers and posters should be the first thing to do. They have much better results than any other method. If this 'estate' has individual gardens then knock on the doors of all the houses closest to yours and ask about sheds/garages. Ask if they can check inside while you wait. He could well be shut in somewhere and it's likely to be close.

There is no point in contacting vets/rescues about microchipped cats. If they had him they would contact you.

Good luck!

He's 14 and a half!
Neutered
Never really goes anywhere outside the perimeter of the garden.
He has a cat flap in to the back garden but he likes popping out the front so we open the door, he pops out for 10 mins, we open the door and he comes straight back in!

This was about 9 last night - so we were pretty much out straight away!

He's big - about 6.5 kilo so not easy to disappear!

Definitely call the microchip database and check;

  • His chip is registered (occasionally paperwork goes missing)
  • your contact details are correct
  • and ask them to flag him as missing
EveryoneIsUnique · 25/11/2021 09:54

Try not to worry its early days, he's probably gone for a wander and settled down for a nap then felt too cold to move. Once he's warmed up a bit he'll hopefully come strolling back. It's worth checking around your local area though and look in bushes and that. Flowers

Thanks everyone - doing all these things! It's just so unusual - he's never been missing before - well once & he was in the airing cupboard! 🙄

I've put his blankets on the line & the bath mat he sits on all the time over the front hedge / see if that helps him smell his way back!

They usually come back.

You could try Nextdoor and local Pets Lost and Found

icedcoffees · 25/11/2021 19:40

I'm in a similar position - mine disappeared at 9pm last night and hasn't been seen since. Unfortunately she's an indoor cat due to health issues and has never been out before :(

I really hope we both find our kitties soon!

leotardrock · 25/11/2021 23:04

Oh Icedcoffee my sympathies, I've cried & cried tonight!
Logged him missing with Petlog and the local vet.
I went to work this afternoon & went out on a search when I got home, every where I went my husband had put up a poster - god love him!
We went out together at 10.15 tonight, and I have put some of his blankets out in the front and back garden to help him smell his way back!
Sat in bed with a whisky now - tired & sad!

And yes I thought about Nextdoor - I had taken myself off there because of all the COVID deniers & anti vax crap but I'll re register.

If he uses a litter tray sprinkle the used litter in your garden, hope he comes home soon.

leotardrock · 26/11/2021 11:38

Still not home!
The litter tray is out, and our dirty duvet cover on the line this morning!

icedcoffees · 26/11/2021 11:43

Oh no @leotardrock - no sign of mine either Sad

It was so wild and stormy last night too so I just hope she found some shelter!

Momniscient · 26/11/2021 15:26

Do you have any jangly toys he might recognise the noise of if you shook them in the garden?

leotardrock · 26/11/2021 17:22

He's a it passed toys but I did a lap of the estate shaking the biscuit box - like a proper mad cat lady!

Still not home! I have a new flyer to spam the neighbours with tomorrow asking them to search their gardens & sheds again!

Might change some of the posters tomorrow as well!

I feel better when I am doing practical things to find him! 😩

Any luck yet @leotardrock?

leotardrock · 27/11/2021 10:22

No, no sign of him!

OP posts:
leotardrock · 27/11/2021 10:47

Feeling like everything is against us at the moment - wet so brought his stuff in & now it's chuffing snowing! 😡😩

OP posts:
icedcoffees · 27/11/2021 11:09

Oh no Sad

I really hope he's just sheltering somewhere and will turn up once the weather clears. Paws crossed for you both!

leotardrock · 27/11/2021 13:06

Is your cat back @icedcoffees?

OP posts:
KittenCatcher · 27/11/2021 13:22

Any news yet, this is such a worry, paws crossed.

icedcoffees · 27/11/2021 13:36

She is @leotardrock - we found her in a neighbours' garden this morning :) she's had plenty of food and water and is now curled up on the radiator having a much-needed nap!

I really hope you find your boy soon, I cried with relief when mine turned up today!

leotardrock · 27/11/2021 13:38

Oh I'm so pleased she's home!
Give her a squeeze from me! 😻
