Ridiculous things you do for or because of your cat?

I’m always cold and my office is freezing so I dress as if I’m living & working in Arctic conditions. That’s fine in the morning but coming home I usually do a bit of shopping so I have heavy bags, a laptop, books and a couple flights of stairs up to my flat. I’m hot and sweaty when I get to the door and desperately needing to get my layers off.

The Cat always acts as if she’s been abandoned for days and as soon as I’m inside will lay there like a pathetic pile of fur needing at least 5 minutes of love and attention. If I try to walk she gets in my way, tripping me. So what have I been doing for the past few winters?? Dump all my stuff on the floor, strip until I’m in my bra & trousers or tights and sit down cuddling her. Semi naked with her long fur sticking on my sweaty skin because I don’t want her waiting an extra couple minutes. I am so bloody ridiculous 🙈

When I get home from the gym dcat3 clambers over me, desperate for a cuddle. I sit there, stinky and sweaty but oh no, I can't have my shower until I've rocked her to sleep like an infant Hmm

pinkyredrose · 12/10/2021 20:24

That's brilliant OP! Grin

Sometimes my cat would stretch out over practically the entirety of the 3 seater sofa which meant i was relegated to the floor. Never had the heart to move her.

SalsaLove · 12/10/2021 20:28

I have to leave my shopping at the door so I can pick her up for a cuddle and then give her dinner (which she refuses ). When I’m eating she’s suddenly interested in food, but not the previous dinner. I’m very often the only one who hasn’t eaten and it’s just me, DH, and Not so Dcat.

OneMoreForExtra · 12/10/2021 20:31

Type notes with one hand while rocking Dkitten in a baby cradle hold, low down out of sight of work Teams call - I hope!

Madasa22 · 12/10/2021 20:31

Cut and freeze, and then cook cat sized portions of frozen fish as she doesn't want to eat raw fish.

Madasa22 · 12/10/2021 20:33

Put the heater on earlier than I'd like because the cat loves lying on the window sill when the radiator is on.

Plump82 · 12/10/2021 20:34

Go to sleep propped up because the cats on my knees and i can't disturb him sleeping so that I can go to sleep. Of course not!

7catsisnotenough · 12/10/2021 20:35

I'm vegetarian but cook chicken breasts in the slow cooker for the six fur babies...

ChickyNuggies · 12/10/2021 20:38

Basically given up sleep as little dear cat looks so sad and forlorn when put to the living room for bed so I stopped that and now give her the run of the flat, which usually results in her jumping on my head every hour on the hour Grin

PickAndChooseMe · 12/10/2021 20:39

They have us wrapped around their little paws Grin

The only thing I have bought for Christmas so far is the cat's advent calendar and Dreamies stocking.

I've sat in bed freezing and desperate for a coffee because she was asleep on the bed beside me.

I rushed home from work in the thunder and peeing rain because I was worried about her, she was asleep.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 12/10/2021 20:55

I cooked some nice chicken thighs for dinner with olive oil and lemon juice. Giving the cats some leftovers and one didn’t really seem
Interested (normally will eat anything and everything). I said to DH ‘maybe she doesn’t like the lemon juice, next time remind me not to use any’.

Anon778833 · 12/10/2021 20:59

We let the cats take up whole seats on the sofa and don't have the heart to move them.

SalsaLove · 12/10/2021 20:59

I love these! I don’t feel so alone, knowing there are other ridiculous cat servants out there. 😻

VexedofVirginiaWater · 12/10/2021 21:04

Having to get up and walk to the kitchen, not to feed the cat - oh no! She's already been fed - but to Show Her The Food. Once I have shown her that there is indeed food in her saucer, then she eats it as if it has just magically appeared. This has to be done six or seven times a day.

slashlover · 12/10/2021 21:19

I live in a 2 bedroom flat. The cat has 2 trees, three beds, a radiator bed, a window shelf, two water bowls, a fancy water fountain, raised food bowls, a set of dog stairs (because she now finds it difficult to jump onto the side of the bath to climb up so I can turn the sink tap on for her), her own seat on the couch where her blanket is and a multitude of toys.

She's also getting a bit old to groom properly so I have to spend 15 minutes twice per day to brush her, and during the heatwave I put her Lik-e-Liks in the fridge so they'd be nice and cool for her, and she didn't like them frozen.

LikeACatInTheDark · 12/10/2021 21:21

Daily antihistamine.

sociallydistained · 12/10/2021 21:25

Open my bedroom window (downstairs flat) for dear cat who knocks at the window then wait to be let in. But no she won’t jump straight in you have to wait a good 10 mins before she’s ready to jump into the window and be well away from the window itself. So basically my room and I have to get freezing in the process.

PS I call her in the back door just before all of this and she sits under the car just staring waiting for me to settle in bed.

Also having to watch other cat eat at all times.

JoanOgden · 12/10/2021 21:28

I'm wrecking my back as she likes to sit on my lap on the sofa while I twist sideways to work on my laptop at the same time. I tried to keep the laptop on my lap but she miaowed piteously until I moved it.

I also drop everything when I get in as she flings herself on the floor to be stroked.

Batfinkwings · 12/10/2021 21:28

@slashlover I smiled wryly with recognition at your post.
I also live in a two bedroom flat. DCat has three scratching posts and a scratch mat, two water bowls, two beds (which he doesn’t use) a window sill pad, his own seat on the sofa where his blanket is and multiple toys strewn across the living room.
I put cat milk in the fridge when it was hot to encourage him to drink more fluids and make sure he didn’t overheat.
I have never been an early riser but I have to get up at least half an hour before I need to shower because DCat likes to play in the morning before he has his breakfast.
I am an absolute sucker Grin

TaraR2020 · 12/10/2021 21:32

Last week I slept across the bottom of the bed because cat had got comfy upper middle of bed and was sound asleep Hmm

Allergictoironing · 12/10/2021 23:01

I set my alarm for at least 30 minutes earlier than I would need to, so Boycat gets a long cuddle in bed when I wake up. He's polite enough not to disturb me until then, and he even lets me dash to the loo first, but then I have to get back on the bed for his cuddle. He tends to sulk if he gets less than at least 30 mins, sometimes more, and I have been known to leave late for work to indulge him.

I have also been known to stay up half an hour later than I wanted, as Girlcat prefers her belly rubs late in the evening.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 13/10/2021 10:08

I let my cat live with the neighbours because he was happier there. I miss him every day but I know that he is living his best life with his two kitty brothers and an enormous garden to chase squirrels in.

VirtualLife · 13/10/2021 10:15

Last week I was out walking round the estate in the pouring rain because Missy hadn't came home (usually out for 2 minutes and back in again). Just got back, went to check the garden again and she strolled out from under the garden sofa dry as a bone and had a big stretch (I had been out shaking the dreamies and calling on her prior to my trek around the estateHmm).

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 13/10/2021 14:13

My old cat used to go out in the rain and come in complaining that he was wet. I always dried him off so that he could go outside and get wet again so that he could come back in complaining that the rain made him wet.

Not sure who was more daft: the cat or me.
