Ridiculous things you do for or because of your cat?

I’m always cold and my office is freezing so I dress as if I’m living & working in Arctic conditions. That’s fine in the morning but coming home I usually do a bit of shopping so I have heavy bags, a laptop, books and a couple flights of stairs up to my flat. I’m hot and sweaty when I get to the door and desperately needing to get my layers off.

The Cat always acts as if she’s been abandoned for days and as soon as I’m inside will lay there like a pathetic pile of fur needing at least 5 minutes of love and attention. If I try to walk she gets in my way, tripping me. So what have I been doing for the past few winters?? Dump all my stuff on the floor, strip until I’m in my bra & trousers or tights and sit down cuddling her. Semi naked with her long fur sticking on my sweaty skin because I don’t want her waiting an extra couple minutes. I am so bloody ridiculous 🙈

Aah I have the answer to them eating proper meat (not pork or chicken though)) cut it up thinly and serve at room temperature!! Warmed in the microwave or hot tap water to defrost it.

Millie only eats her raw turkey if it's cut in long thin strips ( I suppose it's more like a mouse then Shock Grin )

Mine have their own mini dining tables set with trays, biscuits and water. They also have a ceramic fountain. My youngest has a hot water bottle under her covers when it's cold as her coat is fine and not very thick and she feels the cold easily.

If a cat is sitting on one of the chairs, we go elsewhere.

Greyeverywhere · 27/10/2021 12:08

Heavily pregnant with spd but I still hobble along to open the door everytime one of mine wants to go in or out despite them having a perfectly useable catflap which they manage fine with when I'm not around Hmm.
Sometimes after they've begged me to open the door for them they change their minds and saunter off back to the sofa Angry

That is hilarious! I hope they appreciate it!

I have wooden blinds in the front window which are almost fully closed as I live on a busy street and like privacy. Except for the bottom few slats which are horizontal so the cat can see out.

PickAndChooseMe · 27/10/2021 16:23

Almost everyday in winter I have to surrender my seat and heated throw to make her a fort (I do switch it off). It’s the chaise part of the sofa so the best spot in the house! If I’m comfortable and snuggled up I will get glared at until I move and build her camp. She hates the furry side and will refuse to step on it, underneath though she loves it.

Who introduced her to the concept of blanket forts?

Bettybantz · 27/10/2021 16:33

Mine gets his own place setting at the table on Sunday for his chicken dinner

Blush I did. I had been sitting under the blanket with my knees bent so it created a tent which she crawled under. I had to get up for something and used cushions to keep the blanket up. When I got back she was sprawled across my entire seat. Now when she wants the fort she will sit next to the throw and patiently wait for it to magically appear.

Silkiecat has chosen DH to be her preferred servant. This includes having her own single bed, a smaller dining room mattress, pillow and blanket, tuna and tuna water on the dining room table, food bowls in dining room and kitchen, 24/7 DH cuddles and she puts a paw over his mouth if he talks to me so he has to only talk to her. She also sits on his piano if he is playing it and she needs attention. She has to go to a cat hotel if we go away where she gets own room, fresh fish 3 times a day on china plates and 10 pages of instructions of her requirements.

RockingAmadeus · 27/10/2021 17:05

Pablo cat also keen on the heated throw Smile

Well you’ve only got yourself to blame there op. Like dh when he gets mugged for cheese.

PickAndChooseMe · 27/10/2021 19:01

Oh yes I take full responsibility for her diva ways! Grin

The entire house works to our cat's timetable.

If we are still asleep when she thinks we should be up she stands on the landing and yells until we wake up. Doesn't come into the bedrooms or anything. She just stands in the middle of the landing and yells at us.

Bedtime is also decided by her. She yells and leads us to bed.

I work from home and must stop everything when she needs to have a nap because she needs a cuddle first or she can't sleep.

When it gets to about 6pm she starts hassling me to pack up for the day and clear my stuff away.

We can only run the washing machine and tumble dryer at certain times of the day because she doesn't like going in the kitchen when they're on and even if it's a time she's normally sleeping if she wants a drink or something she makes us turn them off.

Enforcement for all the above is yelling, followed by tapping, if you don't listen it's claws and if you are still not obeying she bites your foot.

She also has massive separation anxiety and can't be left alone in the house. This one works fine because I'm agoraphobic. If she wakes up and can't immediately locate someone (eg I'm in the loo) she yells but not an angry yell. It's a terrified noise. She struggles to calm down and needs to be held.

You can't pick her up, she has to jump on to you.

You can't have closed doors. She bangs on them until you let her in. I can often be found stuck on the loo with a cat in my arms.

I know it all probably sounds absolutely insane but she is deeply damaged (rescued from the streets as a kitten so badly malnourished that she has suffered health problems her whole life. God knows what happened to her during that time) and she really needs these accomodations.

HelloDulling · 27/10/2021 19:20

Am current drinking a cold drink out of a mug, because all of the glasses are in use as cat drinks, full of water in every room.

MrsCatE · 27/10/2021 22:43

@PickAndChooseMe I think we have similar Fort makers!

ooooh Your lucky little cat I'veGotaSong She really landed on her paws when she was homed with you!

A ceramic fountain especially for animals? bestcattoy Where did you get it? It would be great for Millie.

ppeatfruit · 28/10/2021 09:28

MrsCatE Your cat looks amazing! Did you choose your colour scheme before she\he came or after? She\he blends so well with it!!

MrsCatE · 28/10/2021 10:14

@ppeatfruit a happy coincidence! He’s a rescue!

Thanks, ppeat. People generally laugh at us. It's nice when someone understands that animals can have significant needs too. She matters. We won't distress her if we can possibly avoid it.
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 28/10/2021 11:35

Another big one is food. She can't cope with an empty bowl. She needs to know that there is always good in her bowl.

MrsCatE · 28/10/2021 20:40

I had to work so MrCat took Little beast for ‘our’ first vet check up. Remember that he’s had countless vet visits with the rescue. On his return, he just wanted me so took him off for a sleep/cuddle then tried to make / get some dinner. 3 hours later I’m sat on very uncomfortable dining table chair because ‘traumatised’ cat is rammed up between chair back and my feeble, human back snoring away. I’m not allowed to move; he’s been to the vet.

ppeatfruit · 29/10/2021 09:02

MrsCatE Your story about vet visits reminded me of one of our many strays , he was a beautiful dark greyey blue with one folded ear (we think that there is a breeder round here who just abandons the cats born with incorrect 'features' for the pedigree which was being aimed at). He had a very dog like personality but it took him a long time to trust us.
He wasn't well so we took him to the vets, he was ok in the basket but when we opened it up in the consulting room he literally flew round the walls !!! The vet's desk was totally trashed . He obviously hated being inside a strange small room . He had cat AIDS sadly he disappeared when we let him out, you can't keep cats like him inside (our stray does at the moment he's a half main coon but a cuddlier cat you couldn't find!! ). He didn't trust us any more Sad we still miss him.

Yes they are all soo different and they're needs are important of course. But with a 'normal' loved housecat they can be treated less indulgently without problems.

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 29/10/2021 11:15

Mine will only drink from the bathroom tap or a cut crystal bowl 🙄 (it was a wedding present and we're long divorced so although it's pretty it is only of any value to the cat 🤣) she sits beside it if it is not full enough for her liking and glares at me until I refill it. Also must come into bed beside me for a cuddle at 6am every morning and expects to get under the covers and tucked in like a child. Will only eat one particular brand of cat food which has to be ordered from zoo plus as nowhere around here stocks it anymore. She's definitely not spoilt tho..... 🙈🤣
