Cat is old, never had fleas and I forgot a spot on treatment this year. Realised too late when an adult flea was found and my dd had bites. This was about four weeks ago.

I have : done the spot on, rung the vet, hoovered more, washed the non material things like sofa in washing up liquid, chucked a bean bag, washed and packed up the cushions, and sprayed everything soft like curtains and a chair with spray.
Also combed the cat with not comb.
Stopped this as though all was good and then three fleas on her yesterday. Flea treated her again. Vet no ideas just keep on.
Any other advice? Many thanks.

The instructions tell you to hoover for 7 consecutive days afterwards to encourage eggs to hatch:

Flea pupae are unaffected by any insecticide flea spray. These pupae can survive in the house for over 12 months but do hatch in response to vibration, especially in warm humid weather. These newly hatched fleas will be killed within hours by Indorexfor up to 2 months after application. The hatching process can be accelerated with warmth and vibration by:

  • Allowing your pet to roam around your home
  • Turning up the heating
  • Thorough vacuum cleaning for 7 consecutive days, as the movement and vibration encourages the pupae to hatch, which are then removed by the vacuum cleaner

Flea eggs can last 17 years in the environment.
Shock
I thought I was meant to Hoover? Have not let the cat upstairs but I know they say to let her wander freely.

Flea found today on cat. Sad no bites, she’s been scratching the last couple of days. This spray is meant to last two months and I’ve done it almost once a week in some areas. Advantage done and worm treatment a week after.
Apparently locally there are lots of cases so god knows when this will end.

Indorex! I posted earlier that I had them so got some. It got rid of mine I haven’t seen one of the vile little f@%#ers since!

Noeuf · 08/11/2021 20:38

Thank you I feel like the kids’ nits and ringworm were less stressful! If it’s Indorex I’m liberally spraying it on carpets and soft furnishings!

Leave the room for a bit when it’s done it gets on your chest. It’s great stuff though I had them hopping in me when I was sat on the sofa, saw them on my bedroom floor and they’re all gone. Maybe I’ll spray again in a few weeks just in case. I hate them more than mosquitoes. I’d sooner nits than fleas anytime!

Steam cleaner was my salvation against fleas!
And diatamacious earth, which is not chemical or dangerous.

peridito · 08/11/2021 21:05

Sympathy Noeuf. I guess the cat can pick up a flea outside and bring it in .
My thinking is that if the flea bites the treated cat it will die because of the Advantage stuff in his blood stream .
The Indorex treated carpet etc should knock out any live fleas landing on it .
So it should be ok .

I'm still wondering about a serestro collar .

Ah thank you yes good idea to leave the room, that stuff stinks! Have had genius idea and sprayed inside Hoover with Indorex! Pp said to use cat collar in bag but don’t have one so compromising.
Maybe an outside flea - there are several cats around. It’s all vinyl downstairs but obviously kids play with cat so have been spraying their rooms as well. Feels like a nightmare! Cat bedding in wash right now….

I sprayed the inside of my Hoover too! And washed every single item of clothing and material I have and thrown rugs out. My clothes are all in bin bags I’m frightened to get them out in case the fleas reappear and I have to wash everything again. I don’t know what’s happened this year they’re everywhere.
Noeuf · 09/11/2021 07:15

I haven’t got that far with clothes but tempted! Sticking to usual wash routine. I suspect the kids are getting eggs on clothes when petting her and then walking them through the house Envy
