What weird stuff does your cat do?

Started this thread after another one I'd started went off on a tangent and started talking about 'weird things our cats do'.

So, come on, I'd love to hear about our furbabies odd and endearing (or just plain strange) behaviours.

I'll start by mentioning that my cat occasionally walks to the corner of the room and just stands there staring intently at nothing at all. Bizarre!

Our departed boy was obsessed with the area under kick boards and the bath.

He’d take the kickboards off and crawl underneath looking for spiders.

TheWashingMachine · 12/01/2021 15:16

Sits on your lap when you go to the loo.
Forgets her cat flap.

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 12/01/2021 15:17

If shut in my cat will poo in the bath. I'm not complaining as it's much easier to clean, but I do wonder how he arrived at the decision to shit in the big white shiny thing!
Also, he loves to sleep on the stairs, he's always being shouted at for it and has been trodden on numerous times but still does it?

10kstepsaroundthegardenthen · 12/01/2021 16:18

Chirps constantly to anyone in earshot.

Announces she's used the litterbox

Pretends to be all lovey dovey with our other cat and then bites him on the bum.

Older cat has an obsession with the sinks in the bathroom. He's quite possessive of them and will try and sit in them while you brush your teeth.

Pretends to chase the rabbit but freaks out when it looks at them - they are definitely scared of them.

One of my cats is a nighttime sock thief. She drags them out from anywhere she can find them, walks around with them in her mouth whilst meowing, and then puts them in a pile in my bathroom or the living room. She does this every single night for about 10 minutes after we shut off the lights.

10kstepsaroundthegardenthen · 12/01/2021 16:31

We lost a cat in February last year- only 3 yrs old. It loved underwear, clean or dirty no real preference, socks, tights, knickers.
It would run around the house with them.

Very embarrassing when it would bring dirty pants down to guests!!

SagelyNodding · 12/01/2021 16:46

I've posted here before about my adorable salad thief! He also steals veg peelings... I've never had a cat like this one!
He also climbs curtains and hides out of sight at the top on the side which is not visible. When we walk past he slaps us, shimmies down and runs away-it's his favorite game!

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2021 16:47

Tif that does sound fun.

Sauvblanca · 12/01/2021 16:55

Picks up their favourite toy, carries it to a different location in the house, drops it, meows loudly a few times and walks off. We've got 2 cats and they both do this almost daily.

One is fascinated by water and absolutely loves to watch the toilet flush.

Santaiscovidfree · 12/01/2021 17:01

Our dcat eats vegetables.. Peas, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, sweetcorn.
Dd usually sets him a place at the table!
Or he steals off the dc's plates!!
Well hygienic here!!

ketosavedmylife · 12/01/2021 17:15

These are amazing! Don't let anyone tell you that owning a cat is boring. No chance!

I often wonder what my cat is thinking, what would he say to me? "...and another thing, do not play with my paws! I don't care that they are super cute and fluffy, DO NOT touch!"

Especially if you get a Bengal 😹 life’s a series of Bengal related accidents then.

GeidiPrimes · 12/01/2021 18:01

Weirdo cats - both are sex maniacs and enjoy shagging my discarded clothes. The wailing cat I spoke of in your other thread sucks his tail (noisily). The dog sucks blankets, while kneading in the manner of a cat. Other cat quite normal in this house full of neurotics. He does chatter at the birds though (and makes the cutest noise I've ever heard while doing it) Also, when he's not in the mood for a stroke he'll very gently and regally push your hand down and away with his paw.

GeidiPrimes · 12/01/2021 18:04

Ah, forgot to say, one of mine loves me playing with his paws, he spreads his toe beans out so I can tickle between them 😍

Mia184 · 12/01/2021 19:59

Yawns loudly.

When I walk to a different room, she often comes after me and hits me with one of her paws.

WunWun · 12/01/2021 20:01

Stands on his back legs and mechanically paws the dishwasher for attention.

AprilBundle · 12/01/2021 20:10

When she sees me in the morning or after a sleep she's so happy she tries turning her entire head upside down and tries to flick it up again! I think this is because of her first day after being rescued and her hiding under the bed and me greeting her all the time with my head 'upside' down looking for her under the bed and then playing with her!
When excited with toys like she's going in for the kill, she swings her head from one side to the other so much so it goes from being upside down on one side then the other, this might be common though.

wizzbangfizz · 12/01/2021 20:15

My boy loves to play fetch with a screwed up ball of paper, jumps up and karate kicks either me or DH when we walk into the kitchen if he is getting impatient for food.

cobblers123 · 12/01/2021 20:22

Opens cupboard doors in kitchen and hall. No idea why, he knows there is nothing in them he could possibly want but most mornings the cupboard doors are open. He never seems to get bored with doing this.

Previous cat loved to sit on the side of the bath and would drop her tail and one front paw into the water. When the water was emptying out and almost all gone, she would get into the bath and peer down the plug hole.

Purplethrow · 12/01/2021 20:36

We don’t have a cat flap so have to get up to let our puss out. During the day this isn’t too much of a problem apart from her meowing to go out, us getting up to open the door and then her changing her mind x100.
If she wants to go out in the middle of the night, She’ll sit by the back door but won’t go out until I go into the kitchen, open a cupboard door, close it and then open the back door. Weirdo !
I know people don’t like cats going out at night and I’ve tried to keep her in but if I don’t let her out she jumps on my bed and bites me. If I shut my bedroom door she sits on the landing yowling.

For you @Purplethrow

Purplethrow · 12/01/2021 21:03

That’s it exactly!!

RoosterTheRoost · 12/01/2021 21:16

My cat can open doors. He jumps and pushes the handle down.

He knocks my husband’s hat off the hook and curls up on it for a nap.

He goes wild for French toast. Will jump on you and steal it from your hands.

Whatisapension · 12/01/2021 21:19

april that is so cute!

One of mine sometimes wails until I follow him to the litter tray then I have to stand there while he does what he needs to do. He also accompanies me to the toilet so I think I am just returning the favour.

The other one is a proper little weirdo. She likes to stick her head right in guests shoes (pre covid!), and makes a shouty mrrp sound while sprinting to the loo. She also does this thing when she has finished eating, while cleaning around her mouth, she flicks her head side ways and ‘throws’ her tongue out. It’s hard to explain but it makes me laugh every time.

I mentioned this on another thread, but she tries to copy boy cat when he is spraying a plant in the garden, she faces her bum toward the plant with her tail upright and flicks it side to side.

Lastly, she bangs cabinet doors when she wants something, just opens slightly and lets go over and over again.

I have a third cat who is so chilled I forget she’s there sometimes, until she wants some love. She has no time for the other two at all🤣

FamilyOfAliens · 12/01/2021 21:22

I’ve posted this before, but my sadly departed ginger tabby girl used to retch when I filed my nails with an emery board.
