What weird stuff does your cat do?

Started this thread after another one I'd started went off on a tangent and started talking about 'weird things our cats do'.

So, come on, I'd love to hear about our furbabies odd and endearing (or just plain strange) behaviours.

I'll start by mentioning that my cat occasionally walks to the corner of the room and just stands there staring intently at nothing at all. Bizarre!

My ginger boy makes the cutest groaning noises when he's curling up to sleep. He always says hello when he comes into the living room.

My dd has very long hair, the cat loves to chew on it and bury herself under it . She crawls up dd’s chest , makes her way around the back of her neck and hides under her hair , we can hear her chewing it as she makes little smacking noises with her mouth.

Basil muscles his way into bed between us every morning just before we get up. He then proceeds to bite any fingers available (bloody painfully) while purring his head off.
I think he has a sense of humour. Grin

Our old cat used to love chewing shaved head hair. He also retches when you pull a length of sellotape off the roll. Well, he used to, but I don't think his hearing as great so no longer does it.
Our younger one loves to drink water out of the tap, and will open the downstairs loo door to see if anyone will get her a drink. Poor thing. We have three water bowls around the house.

My Silky loves a red bullet and one if her favourite games is shoving it under the sofa....she shoves it so far that she can't get it. Game over. You'd think she'd have learnt.

A childhood cat used to adore playing with plastic carrier bags. The best thing for him was climbing into them. We once hung the bag from a hook and he just curled up in there dangling away and purring.

Mine does this too with a plastic orange thing he pinched from one of my daughter's toys. It spends more time under the sofa than he does playing with it!

My Persian used to take a run up so he could slide along the kitchen floor and bang, head first into the cupboards. He'd then shake his head, say "brrrr-raow" and run off through the rest of the house banging around for 1/2 hour. Miss that cat.

Mumdiva99 · 15/01/2021 14:40

@WirKindervomBahnhofZoo it's lost more than she has it. I don't know whether to buy some duplicates or of they just won't be the same....and she'll lose interest. But she is so happy when it's found.

WirKindervomBahnhofZoo · 15/01/2021 15:29

We had to buy some more - probably have about 6 now and 5 of them are probably under the sofa!

ketosavedmylife · 15/01/2021 16:39

D'you know, non-cat owners (catless owners?) do not know what they're missing. Life is enriched in every way with a cat (or two). One of my previous boys loved plastic bags and I would leave one out for him to sit in. I listened out for the familiar rustle as he made himself comfortable...

Has everyone seen this little upstart?Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/01/2021 19:25

She is a little diva.

purrswhileheeats · 15/01/2021 20:05

Tabitha loves my sweaty hair when I come back from the gym (the gym - who remembers that?! Grin) She rubs her face ecstatically on my head then kneads my scalp with her claws; it's like a mini Indian head massage Confused

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 15/01/2021 20:09

Our cat is almost 18 and has always used the corners of the litter tray rather than the middle. At least once a week she goes over the edge a bit and it's a right pain cleaning it up. We recently bought her the biggest one pets at home had but no, she still goes right to the corner!

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 15/01/2021 20:13

Oh, and my daughters cat will not drink out of a bowl only a glass!

20 year old cat pretends she can't climb the stairs and wails until I carry her up. Then I get the dreamies out and she's up the stairs like a gazelle.

Am loving all these “quirks” - though I wouldn’t use that word in front of a feline!

My dearly departed Simba absolutely LOVED having his paws tickled - for hours on end. As a pp said, he would stretch his toe beans out so that I could get a fingertip right in between them and he’d then curl his paw around my finger so I didn’t stop.

In two different homes, I’ve accidentally shut him in places. Once in a huge storage cupboard and once in a downstairs toilet. Both times were at least an hour (bordering on nearly 2 hours). I have a cat-check policy, I like to check every 2 hours where they are. On both occasions, I couldn’t find him in any of his “usual” spots (these would change, so every few weeks one spot was his favourite and then it would move to somewhere else). On both occasions, when I opened the door to where he’d snuck in he was sitting there, front paws perfectly turned out like a ballerina, and just looking at me like “finally darlings, the dumb idiot in this performance has discovered my plight”. Not a peep out of him to let me know, he just politely waited. I miss him so blooming much .

Simba, and his younger brother, both do/did that weird thing where when they’ve sniffed something their expression just kind of “sticks’. Not explaining it well, but hopefully you know what I mean!

Simba loved feet! He would curl up next to me and try to lick every possible part of my feet. He’d shove his head into slippers, boots, shoes etc and drop off to sleep.

His younger brother (now eleven) is a whole other story, will save that for another time!

Our cat likes to wrap herself around my DH’s neck like a fur collar, and go to sleep.
It has caused some upset recently in zoom meetings.

lovelemoncurd · 16/01/2021 05:21

He plays fetch. So he goes and picks up his curled up pipe cleaner brings it to you to throw, runs and collects it and repeat.

He hides around corners to ambush the dog. Jumping out and grabbing her like a lion would round the dogs neck. The dog ignores him.

If he catches a mouse he will hide it in the under stairs cupboard then sit outside of the cupboard in the morning and stare at you until you look in there.

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 16/01/2021 05:22

One of ours chews her tail when she's happy! She also sleeps on my pillow at night and will gradually push me off it!

The other one is just the loveliest cat ever, and will meow to be picked up, then lift her arms like a baby when you bend down to get her. She will headbutt your face, and if you're really lucky, lick your eyebrows!

Zofloramummy · 16/01/2021 05:34

One sleeps on my pillow, one wakes me up about this time every morning by repeatedly banging the wardrobe doors and the third one tries to sit on any exposed body parts when I’m in the bath or in the toilet. I am never alone!
