What weird stuff does your cat do?

Started this thread after another one I'd started went off on a tangent and started talking about 'weird things our cats do'.

So, come on, I'd love to hear about our furbabies odd and endearing (or just plain strange) behaviours.

I'll start by mentioning that my cat occasionally walks to the corner of the room and just stands there staring intently at nothing at all. Bizarre!

Lola answers back. She sits on the landing outside our bedroom door in the mornings so someone will follow her down for breakfast (even if she already has dry food in her bowl).

If it's too early I'll stay in bed and loudly say "No Lola" to which she'll respond outside the door with what sounds like a protest. It's not a miaow but more like a "uh uh". And she responds this way each time I say no.

Imagine this going on back and forth or a good minute or two. It's like a having petulant child Grin

My cat has to visit the little cupboard where the vacuum is every day. I’ve no idea what he does in there, but he scratches at the cupboard door for ages until I open it for him. Spends 5 mins a day in there.

He also stares intently at invisible objects OP

When my husband has his trousers round his ankles on the loo the cat gets in them 😂

TroysMammy · 12/01/2021 21:40

Likes to play peek a boo in the bath, when I'm sitting on the toilet. I bob my head up and down too.

ValpolicellaPrimitivo · 12/01/2021 21:42

My cat plays fetch like a dog!

Toasty280 · 12/01/2021 21:43

White cat likes to go into the downstairs toilet, he will meiow until someone opens the door, sniffs around and comes out.

He does not have a litter box in there.

CorpusCallosum · 12/01/2021 21:44

Our 2 DCats sit in different parts of the room lined up exactly on a West / East axis most evenings.

MrsGrindah · 12/01/2021 21:47

My late darlings used to:
Nibble the hairs on DHs leg esp when he’d been swimming
Stalk me from behind the sofa , leap out and dangle from my jeans
Enjoy being carried around in a carrier bag
Cry to be fed oranges
Fish cold tea out of your mug with her paws
Be scared of wind!

pinkhousesarebest · 12/01/2021 21:47

Our gorgeous boy opened big old heavy pine doors by standing on his hind legs, grabbing the knob and walking backwards like a sentry. He did this even as a kitten. Man I miss that cat..

Lastfreakinglegs · 12/01/2021 21:51

My kitten loves my toes. When I'm in bed, if my toes are sticking out the bottom of the covers, she will paw at them and even stick her claws in!

Bambam2019 · 12/01/2021 21:58

Hates tinfoil.
Hates spiders (possibly due to witnessing my reactions to them for the past 12 years?!)
Absolutely loves when the bed sheets are being washed as she loves sleeping on the duvets whilst the covers are being washed.
Hates the window cleaner and bin lorry (lots of things she doesn’t like here....)
Prefers my partner to me- the second he sits down anywhere she’s sat on him purring away smugly! 😂

QueenPawPaws · 12/01/2021 22:04

Shouts constantly. Especially at himself in a mirror. He doesn't have an unvoiced thought in his head

Goes mental for pork scratchings, will steal them, run off and sit drooling over them

Head bops you by slamming his head into you as hard as he can then drools on you

Hates/is petrified of all other cats apart from one

Stalks dogs by ambling down the garden until they're barking frantically then spits at them Blush

Asks to be dried with a towel after he's been out in the rain

ketosavedmylife · 12/01/2021 22:29

Ah, these are wonderful Smile.

Cats seem to be obsessed with bathroom routines; mine loves to sit and watch me in the bath or runs up stairs ahead of me to the loo, assuming I need supervising. As soon as I reach out for the loo roll he leaves the bathroom (obviously wanting to give me a little bit of privacy to wipe Grin).

Yes Queen, but you haven't mentioned his passion for other human food - like jacket potatoes & baked beans! Grin

Allergictoironing · 12/01/2021 22:35

Girlcat tries to watch me on the loo, but only at my last visit before going to bed. We have our routine where I turn everything off downstairs & give Dreamies, then go up, into my room to dump my drink/turn the light on/turn the TV on, then I go to the loo. At that time she charges up the stairs and sits in the doorway so I can't close it, and stares at me.

coastergirl · 12/01/2021 23:37

@QueenPawPaws you also forgot that he loves yoghurt and milkshake!

Walter sits on the arm of the sofa and paws at my face. I've no idea why. He also slurps loudly while washing himself, and goes crazy when I get the tin opener out. He thinks anything in a tin is tuna.

BringMeThatHorizon · 12/01/2021 23:44

Mine loves to lie across my shoulders like a scarf when I'm trying to work, and sits on the toilet when I'm having a shower so she feels included. She also loves marmite.

Catname · 13/01/2021 00:05

One cannot be trusted with (sweet) mince pies. She has been sitting on DP’s lap and grudging him every mouthful, then devouring the crumbs before disappearing off.

Another likes to rhythmically curl the edges of pieces of paper by flexing his claws.

Pet8 · 13/01/2021 00:09

Lost our cat a few years ago after 11 years. She was likely to shit in the bath if the bathroom door was left open.

LemonViolet · 13/01/2021 00:21

When we moved house, we found 37 hair elastics under the fridge. All stolen from my dresser by boycat, and pinged around until they got stuck under there. I knew he had a slight habit of doing that but 37 was a bit of a shock! No wonder I feel like I’m always having to buy more!

Older girlcat has a thing do cotton buds, once found her sneaking out of the bathroom with three of them in her mouth.

Younger girlcat can open drawers and likes to sleep in them. But not the bottom drawer, she prefers the third or fourth up. She opens one, then stands in it and opens the next one up, and so on until she gets to her preferred spot. When you come home it looks like the place has been burgled with every drawer open.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 13/01/2021 00:31

My 19 year protest shits down on the floor next to the sofa is she isn't happy about me going to work, she has litter trays upstairs and down.
She also grabs my hand gently with paws and teeth if she wants a stroke which is most of the time.

I keep scrolling past this post in my 'I'm on' and thinking "wtf?!" before realising what thread it's in.
Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2021 09:12

Cheddar puts her paws on the side of the bath and shouts at me every time I have a bath.
Snorg has to walk round the bed 3 times before jumping on to it.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2021 09:15

The late Maia used to fish thermometer probe covers out of the bedroom bin and carry them around.

WirKindervomBahnhofZoo · 13/01/2021 09:20

Ed likes to sniff my fringe, gets his head right in there and sort of lifts it up. It's quite unnerving!
