Are you taking him to the vets or has he been?.

KatyMac · 19/08/2020 09:22

Sitting outside now

He does have kidney problems but we have pretty much kept it balanced since Christmas

The hot weather was a bugger he has lost .5kgs too we were just monitoring and yesterday he went down so fast

But bath sitting is new

He has lost another .5kgs since Friday - Blood & Urine sent to the lab, he is on a drip

so annoyed we didn't get a blood test on Friday but he wasn't massively ill and it was Feb the last time he was weighed

If they aren’t ill i wouldn’t have gone in for a blood test either. How long for the results to come back?.

BillywilliamV · 19/08/2020 11:01

Maybe he is thirsty, turn the tap on a dribble and see if he wants a drink.

KatyMac · 19/08/2020 11:03

The initial tests will be back later and they have sent them off too

He doesn't like the overly hot weather (ever) so although he was a bit off his food I just put it down to that

Hopefully the drip will help but it's touch and go

I think this is it - his kidney things was 6 rimes what it should be , its only dropped to 5 times while he has been on the drip over night

So upset

So sorry OP. It’s heartbreaking when their little bodies get to the end of their journey. Flynn is lucky to be so loved and well cared for - I am sending a handhold

Toddlerteaplease · 20/08/2020 17:51

We had a cat that started sitting in the bath when she went into kidney failure. One of mine died a couple of years ago from it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/08/2020 17:54

Oh I’m sorry. What do the vets think?.

KatyMac · 20/08/2020 19:33

The vets said he thinks this is it

Flowers I'm so sorry

Vinorosso74 · 20/08/2020 20:02

I didn't quite know what to expect here but I'm so sorry to read thisFlowers

KatyMac · 20/08/2020 20:21

I have to decide in the morning before going to clear my dead mum's house

I am not fond of 2020 right now

Wallywobbles · 20/08/2020 20:23

Gosh. So tough. Poor chap.

Vinorosso74 · 20/08/2020 21:18

So hard. This is the toughest part of having cats. And yes 2020 is the worst year.

KatyMac · 21/08/2020 14:43

A different vet has taken over his care and she says he is so much better than last night its almost miraculous!

His kidney markers have dropped from 6 rimes the normal to 3 times and he is eating and drinking despite the drip AND he is talking to everyone and trying to touch them through the bars and coming in for a cuddle everyone they get him out

That sounds more like my tart of a cat!!

OP posts:
MaliceOrgan · 21/08/2020 14:44

My cat has been sitting in the bath to cool down in the heat. Could it be that?

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/08/2020 15:03

Do they think you can take him home soon?. He sounds much better.

isamonster · 21/08/2020 15:12

I went through something similar with my cat who had kidney problems. We left him for 10 days with my ex fil feeding him but it was very hot and he stopped eating or drinking and sat on the ceramic hob or under the sofa. FIL didn't understand the problem or that he he needed to see a vet urgently. He was really poorly but after three days inpatient treatment he bounced back and lived another 4 years. Hope he can come home soon.

KatyMac · 21/08/2020 15:43

Oh I hope so but he is still fairly poorly

Quite worried still

OP posts:
isamonster · 21/08/2020 17:26

I'm sure - it is so difficult. How old is Flynn? Has he had crises before?

Vinorosso74 · 21/08/2020 19:59

I'm pleased he's improved. Paws crossed for him here

Madcats · 21/08/2020 20:01

It probably won't help, but Madcats v2 (also Siamese, but irrational teens) LOVE sitting in the bath (preferably after one of us has used it, but they enjoy jumping in with muddy paws). I gave up dealing with the door banging and scratching and popped a cat bed next to the bath. They probably sleep in it for a few hours/week (even longer when the u/floor heating is on!).

I hope that Flynn feels better soon, OP. Fingers crossed that your new vet treats the problem.

KatyMac · 21/08/2020 23:05

He is 10, this is his second bad one (first was in Mar/April 2017)

And a minor one early last year

I am holding fire on having him put down; if he is eating and cuddly he may get better

This vet was surprised it had even been discussed as he was so happy/content but says they can change so fast

Fingers crossed
