What's your DCat up to today? (Thread 7!)

I wanted to reply to @EachandEveryone but thread number 6 is full! That cooling mat thing looks fab.

What is everyone's cat up to today?

Today I am 26 weeks pregnant and my cat Freya is communing with the baby. Mainly purring and gentle pawing in response to little kicks. I am hoping they'll be friends! Meanwhile Maisie is looking on disdainfully. She's in the huff because I tipped her out of the pregnancy dungarees, which she had commandeered as her personal nest.

What are your furry overlords all up to?

I wish I could show you a photo! She is so very shy. She has made a cat cave at the back of DS's bookcase (that was where she was most of Sunday and all day today!).

She will purr loudly like a little motor when I sit and talk to her but the slightest sound from downstairs (a spoon clinking on a bowl for example) and she is back in her den like lightning.

She's a rescue, so time and patience needed.

Anyone with tips for helping a cat with trust - please let me know.

For the time being have put all her amenities to hand so she can pop in and out of her cave without feeling stressed.

She comes out exploring at night, knocked something or other over at 5am this morning in our room.

She's so sweet, and I can tell she wants to come for a love, but she's just too frightened, poor thing. We have called her Ivy, she's black with white paws, bib and tum and a white splodge on her nose.

She's only a year old but probably been to school of hard knocks, and been a teenage mum to boot. She's been at the sanctuary for 4 months, so its a big change for her to process.

We had a quick cuddle with those kittens too - adorable! black as coal with a bit of tabby in the mix. So funny, all 4 of them running about. Mum was a darling as well.

caoraich · 15/10/2018 19:04

Ahhh isn't she a cutie! I would just give her lots of time and make sure every room has a nice soft place for her to hide in. Even just boxes lined with blankets.

Maisie was very timid when we first got her (though she was just a kitten and it wasn't helped by the fact that our other cat Freya appeared to want to eat her....)
We closed off a number of rooms so the house didn't feel too big for her and gradually opened them up. Also used a feliway plug-in that seemed to help her relax (and definitely helped Freya!)
Make sure her food and water are in separate spots and aren't in "exposed" places so she feels relaxed when eating
I'm sure in a couple of weeks she'll be snoozing on your laps Smile

She's getting more confident - came downstairs last and played with her catnip mouse.

Lots of head butting and purring last night and let me stroke her for about half and hour. She starts purring whenever I chat to her in her book cave now :)

DS saw her sat on the windowsill having a good nosey at the street below this morning.

Still freaked by any random noise or movement but I can tell she likes her new home - rubbing herself on all the furniture etc.

She ate her food whilst I was sat on the floor with her last night so she's starting to trust. Happy cat!

I'll try to have my camera at the ready if she's out this eve.

So pleased to hear Ivy is gaining confidence, she's a lucky girl

EachandEveryone · 17/10/2018 13:12

I am feeling guilty today. My 1 year old tabby was asleep in her bed all evening, didn't even get up for tea as usual. Didn't really pay much attention. Eventually I picked her up about 10pm as I was concerned and noticed she has a huge abscess on her paw which had just burst. I am a vet which makes it worse I feel?! Had to nip to work to get her some synulox and metacam. And give it a clip and clean which was obviously very sore, poor thing! She was spaced out on buprenodale the rest of the night and seems to be feeling much better today.

caoraich Any news from your end yet?

caoraich · 18/10/2018 00:12

Nothing yet no!! Am now overdue. Sigh. Freya tried to console me by bringing me a leaf and letting me tickle her chin.

They are quite perplexed by the birthing ball in the background of this pic! It lives in the living room but this morning they were nudging it around the hallway...

There were three pumpkins in this picture but one seems to have had a paw-assisted accident!

She is the picture of a Halloween cat though.

Baby is here.... Maisie is intrigued by the human kitten but Freya is furious! I must smell all wrong to her as she doesn't let me cuddle her now Sad
There was a bit of an improvement this morning when she jumped up to inspect the baby, but this is as close as they've got so far...

Oooooooh dear. I inherited my ex-neighbours' ex cat (sad story) when baby arrived. He voted with his paws, poor love.

But congratulations on the birth of your future cat-slave.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/10/2018 13:52

ERNIE!!!! (I can't do the emoticon for heart).

caoraich · 23/10/2018 17:18

Today I have had a wee bit of purring and baby got a head bump!

Fingers and paws crossed ....

Maybe it's because you came home smelling of hospital. In cat terms that means you smell of V.E.T.!

I think they'll be fine.
