my darling cat is dead upstairs

It's just such a shock - my parter just went up to bed and came down to say I don't think Ozzie looks too good. I went upstairs and he was just lying there - still warm but lifeless - he must have had a heart attack. I'm shocked and devastated. He's 10 yrs old. My daughter is going to be devastated in the morning. I don't know what to do with myself. My darling boy

Sad I'm sorry.

it's horrible when a pet dies.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/05/2016 23:50

Oh no! What a horrible shock Flowers x

VenusRising · 18/05/2016 23:51

Oh how shocking Obsessedlex.
I'm so, so sorry.

At least he was snuggled up where he was comfy, and knows you loved him.

RIP Ozzie

cozietoesie · 18/05/2016 23:52

I've had this happen. I'm very sorry.

LadyReuleaux · 18/05/2016 23:52

Oh OP (((hug))) you poor thing, poor cat too. I know how awful it feels.

Can you spend a little time with him, stroke him and wrap him up in an old jumper or something of yours and put him in a cosy box, ready to take to the vet? Then you can prepare your DD in the morning and she will see him looking at peace.

So sorry Flowers

obsessedlex · 18/05/2016 23:55

I've wrapped him up all cosy in a towel - I think we'll bury him in the morning - thank you for all your kind words. It's just such a shock I heard what sounded like him Coughing a hair ball earlier and thought damn it I've just changed the sheets bet it's on the bed but then forgot about it and 20 mins later my partner found him.

obsessedlex · 18/05/2016 23:56

Really have you [cozzie] just like that so sudden ?

OP posts:
obsessedlex · 18/05/2016 23:58

My DD is 6 - do I let her see him?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 18/05/2016 23:59

Yes, I'm afraid so. Under a minute.

He was 8 years old and had seemed in perfect health that morning.

obsessedlex · 19/05/2016 00:01

He had a little heart murmur that the vets diagnosed about 14 months ago but they listened again a couple of months ago and said it was still there but fine not worth worrying about.

If your cat looks peaceful then I can't see the harm in letting her see him. You know her best though of course. I was 8 when my first cat died and I saw him before he was buried. It was nice to say goodbye.

So sorry for your loss.

BirthdayBetty · 19/05/2016 00:08

He loved the bed!! I bought a bed cover the other day to keep his hairs off my other halfs pillow Ozzie just crept under it!!

NapQueen · 19/05/2016 00:20

Aww goodness I'm so sorry you're pet has died. I've two myself, who look not too dissimilar to your ozzie.

How heartbreaking.

I have a 4.4yo who has sadly experienced death when her aunt (sil) passed away a year ago. I think she has an understanding of death and in your situation I would let her see the cat, to say goodbye. And maybe choose a cat toy or draw a picture to put into the box.

How incredibly sad,OP, Thanks

obsessedlex · 19/05/2016 00:21
