my darling cat is dead upstairs

It's just such a shock - my parter just went up to bed and came down to say I don't think Ozzie looks too good. I went upstairs and he was just lying there - still warm but lifeless - he must have had a heart attack. I'm shocked and devastated. He's 10 yrs old. My daughter is going to be devastated in the morning. I don't know what to do with myself. My darling boy

What a horrible shock. They are so little but leave such a big hole in our lives.

My DD found one of my cats when he died. What helped was that she was listening to the Jacqueline Wilson story 'the cat mummy' so we put him in a cardboard box and she helped to fill his coffin with all of his favourite things.

Sorry for your loss - he looks like a lovely cat Flowers

So, so sorry for your loss Lex. Ozzie was obviously very well loved and had a wonderful life with a caring family. I hope DD took the sad news as well as could be expected xx

whitehandledkitchenknife · 19/05/2016 08:47

Oh I'm so sorry Flowers

We let our children say goodbye to our cat. It was very hard and my daughter was inconsolable for a few minutes but then started stroking him, covered him in flowers, looked inside his mouth and finally helped bury him in the garden. It was actually quite lovely to see her go from scared to accepting his death in such a short time.

MangoMoon · 19/05/2016 09:25

Sad so sorry.

Your pictures of him are lovely, he looks proper cheeky.

Hope your daughter is ok too, poor thing Flowers

So sorry for you all and I totally understand we have lost 4 beautiful cats over the years and its awful. Ours are all laid peacefully in the garden under three lovely hebe bushes and I had a nice plaque made up from an Ebay shop.

Hugs to you Flowers

DD kept a picture of our lovely cat by her bed for ages after he died. She still misses him 10 years later.

obsessedlex · 19/05/2016 11:56

Thank you all again - it's been a horrible morning DD was obviously mortified but has coped amazingly. She did ask where he was and so I said that she could see him if she liked. She decided she would like to and sat and stroked him and kissed him and went back in and out of the room a few times. We've just got back from burying him at my mum and dads home where they'll never move from. The house feels so empty. We made him a lovely grave, DD read him a lovely prayer she had written and we buried him with 2 little teddies and a hair band (he was a terrible thief of hair bands that he flicked under all the furniture)so now he has one to play with in heaven - my DDs words!
You've all been so kind these animals cause us so much pain but I still wouldn't be without them - I attach a picture of his lovely grave - I hope it doesn't offend.

Oh that's lovely lex – you have done him proud and done a great thing for your DD too, in having a special ceremony and helping her say goodbye.

So sorry it's such a tough day for you - take care.

SnakeWitch · 19/05/2016 12:04

I'm so sorry. He looks like he led a good kitty life, what a beautiful boy. It's probably not much comfort but I have always hoped that is how my two go when the time comes. He has a lovely resting place now, it looks very peaceful there. Flowers

Archfarchnad · 19/05/2016 12:08

You've done that beautifully and sensitively for your DD. Ozzie sounds like he was such a wonderful cat, and you gave him a good life.

TheABC · 19/05/2016 12:14

He looks like a lovely cat who had a lovely owner. Rest in peace, Ozzie.

NapQueen · 19/05/2016 12:17

What a beautiful send off (wiping my eyes at the hairband bit).

Bless your little girl x

magicstar1 · 19/05/2016 12:27

I'm so sorry for your loss. Ozzie was a gorgeous cat.

Our cat was diagnosed with heart murmur a couple of weeks ago, and the vet did say that often it's a sudden death. The cat can just be walking across the room and fall down dead. At least he wasn't in any pain, and wouldn't have been aware.
RIP Ozzie.

Goingtobeawesome · 19/05/2016 13:00

RIP beautiful cat 💐🎀(closest to hair band.)

Toddlerteaplease · 19/05/2016 15:25

What a beautiful resting place. He was a lucky boy to have had you. Your DD sounds lovely. Flowers

TroysMammy · 19/05/2016 15:55

I'm so sorry for the loss of your cat. My darling cat died just over a week ago so I know how you feel. Troy was diagnosed with hypertopic cardiomyopathy and heart failure in January. He died on the way to the Emergency vets. He had a lovely brush an hour and a half before he died and last Monday night I cried when I came out of the bathroom and saw the exact place he was when I brushed him for the last time. He was 2 months off his 6th birthday.

nannyplumislostinspace · 19/05/2016 16:03

What a beautiful boy. Rip
