... and his brother has never stopped crying for him. Last night he sauntered back in, ate some food and curled up with his brother on the sofa. He's downstairs asleep by the hearth at this very moment. He's thin and a bit unkempt but his fluffy, well nourished brother is cleaning him up. They're both purring away. Where the hell has he been?

Wow! That's amazing.

Pascha · 12/03/2012 12:58

Shock he's been away nearly as long as my son is old! As he's thin I wonder if he got in a vehicle going a long way away and has slowly made his way back across country to you?

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2012 12:58

That is bloody brilliant. He'll need his boosters. Grin

17 months Shock You may want to get him scanned in case anyone has microchipped him as their cat. Grin

OrmIrian · 12/03/2012 13:10

Hurray! How wonderful Grin

ShowOfHands · 12/03/2012 13:11

I'll take him to the vets when dh gets back from the course he's on. He looks like he hasn't been looked after too well so wonder if he's been living rough. I swear I've seen him in the churchyard several times over the last year and a half (about 2 miles away). But dh thought I was imagining it. His brother's about twice his size. Poor boy needs feeding up.

If only they could talk. You had better get some more cat food in. Grin

PurpleKittyKnitting · 12/03/2012 13:14

Oh poor boy!! Must be weird and great at the same tme having him back!

BettyPerske · 12/03/2012 13:16

Oh my Golly, that's like the Incredible Journey.

That's the sort of thing that just does not happen.

I'm so pleased for you and for his bro x

TheCunningStunt · 12/03/2012 13:17

That is brilliant. This has really made me smile!

ShowOfHands · 12/03/2012 13:18

4yo dd opened the door last night to let one cat in and squealed with delight when they both ambled past. I keep muttering how and why and where. I can't quite believe it. He's eating pilchards now, his brother's watching. He will not leave his side.

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2012 13:19

Does DD remember there were 2 cats?

LST · 12/03/2012 13:20

Omg! That's amazing! Smile I'm so happy for you!

rockinhippy · 12/03/2012 13:23

Awww, how lovely for you :) - - a friends Tom cat did this too, but he was missing for just under a year - you're right - if only they could talk :)

Byeckerslike · 12/03/2012 13:23

Wow! Shock

ArielNonBio · 12/03/2012 13:26

That has actually genuinely brought a tear to my eye! How amazing.

I love cats so much.

Wouldn't it be great if he could tell you what he's been up to!

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2012 13:27

Ask him what made him decide to come back please. Grin

My cat did that after 8 and a half months once.

Just strolled up one day, like she'd never been gone.

She also refused to move house with me, and still lives in my old street, though I don't know who with.

Odd creature.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2012 16:13

Did he also look at you like "what? WHAT? I was out, stop with all the questions will you!".

I did read something once that said after a mile or two away from home they lose their bearings and can get lost. Maybe he was in the churchyard after all, lots of hiding places for hunting in them.

Very pleased for you all though.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 12/03/2012 16:20

Great news!

My MIL had a cat who was well-known locally as he was always wandering the local fields and footpaths, and he disappeared a couple of times, once for several months. He reappeared on Christmas Day when we were staying with her! He definitely hitched a ride in a van at least once. And got adopted by another household once.

ShowOfHands · 12/03/2012 16:47

He's got a distinct air of 'what the heck are you fussing about human, just bring the pilchards over here'. His brother has been so withdrawn and he's just purring and purring.

DD definitely knew one of her cats was missing. She talked about him often. I'm pretty sure it was him in the churchyard. Just slightly too far away to find his way home. Maybe the other one went and got him.
