... and his brother has never stopped crying for him. Last night he sauntered back in, ate some food and curled up with his brother on the sofa. He's downstairs asleep by the hearth at this very moment. He's thin and a bit unkempt but his fluffy, well nourished brother is cleaning him up. They're both purring away. Where the hell has he been?

naturalbaby · 12/03/2012 17:20

that is too lovely.

fabwoman · 12/03/2012 17:22

I remember when he went. FABULOUS news Grin.

How lovely his brother accepted him back straight away.

slatternlymother · 12/03/2012 17:23

oh how lovely!

Maybe he went away to 'find' himself Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 12/03/2012 17:24

That's amazing. And yes, he's probably thinking 'God, get over it, I was just away, all right?' Smile

fabwoman · 12/03/2012 17:25

I have read the whole thread now and I am sure his brother found him and brought him home.

CheeseandPickledOnion · 12/03/2012 17:26

OMG, that's wonderful. :Amnotcrying:

PurpleKittyKnitting · 12/03/2012 18:08

Can you imagine the other cat saying 'come on you, it really is time to come home now! How much more exploring do you need to do?!'

CamperFan · 12/03/2012 18:10

That's so lovely he's back. He obviously wanted to go and "find himself" or something like that.

ArielNonBio · 12/03/2012 18:15

How old is he, by the way?

We lost a cat on my 21st birthday. I kept hoping she would come wandering back in for years afterwards :(. I think she probably went down a badgers' sett or a fox hole or something :(

ShowOfHands · 12/03/2012 18:27

They're 3 and a half. I should imagine his brother had had enough of waiting for us to go and get him and flounced off himself. They were never apart before Noon disappeared and Midnight was bereft for a long time. It's so nice to see them all tangled up together in a big cat heap.

This story really warms the cockles!

PurpleKittyKnitting · 12/03/2012 18:41

Great names!!

Northernlurker · 12/03/2012 18:45

So pleased for you. Why didn't you go and get him when you thought it was him though?

SecretNutellaFix · 12/03/2012 18:55

Fantastic news.

My first pair of cats were brothers. Honey vanished when he was 18 months. When they were 6, Ebony was killed by a car. Less than six weeks later guess who saunters up the front path and demands to be let in? He had very distinctive scarring on his ears which we had photo evidence of and the people who had been feeding him couldn't argue he wasn't ours, so he stayed with us until he became ill 2 years later.

PetiteRaleuse · 12/03/2012 19:00

I have been having a really really awful day today and this story has just cheered me up wonderfully. Thank you.

SootySweepandSue · 12/03/2012 19:03

How fabulous. It's like Bobby in the showerSmile.

RubyrooUK · 12/03/2012 19:47

That's so lovely!

The same thing happened to us. Our soppy devoted cat disappeared for 6 months. He wasn't streetwise (never killed anything) and didn't like other people apart from me and my mum much, so we couldn't understand it.

One day we went to the door and there he was, loudly shouting at us. He came home, then cried every time we left the room as if we had left him! It took him about a year to stop following us every time we left a room.

We still have no idea where he was. He was thinner but not emaciated and had worms but was otherwise fine. He showed no signs for the next 12 years of knowing how to hunt and never left home again!

So glad you got him back!

ShowOfHands · 12/03/2012 20:49

I went to the cemetery, took his carrier and treats but never saw him when I actively tried. Occasionally whilst cutting through on the way to preschool I'd see the cat and call to it and he'd come running but then scarper if anybody else appeared. I leafleted, knocked on all the local doors etc and nothing.

ChewingGum · 12/03/2012 20:58

Smile

GetOrfMoiiLand · 12/03/2012 21:02

That is a wonderful thing to hear, this has made me well up.

I have 4 cats - 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I know that they would be bereft if their sibling went missing.

How LOVELY that AWOL cat's brother is pleased to see him back.

What a great thread.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 12/03/2012 21:04

Something similar happened ages ago - but only for 2 weeks. My old cat went missing for 2 weeks, me and dd were bereft. Hunted high and low. On dd's 8th birthday we both got up, and we both cried as we realised we would never see Henry again. Went downstairs, and there he was. Opened the front door and he sauntered in, covered in dust, I assume he had been locked in a shed or something.

Best borthday present ever.

Hollyfoot · 12/03/2012 21:05

So chuffed that you have Noon back, and that Midnight has his brother back. And after so long.

Just lovely.

topknob · 12/03/2012 21:06

aww so pleased for you, I so hope this will happen to us, still missing our boy who went missing just under a year ago ! My aunties cat went missing then they move a few streets away and the Tom turned up at her new address :)
